- Thank Nige for this banner~
This is the way it is with the Zone: if you come back with swag - it's a miracle; if you come back alive - it's a success; if the patrol bullets miss you - it's a stroke of luck. And as for anything else - that's fate.

Welcome to the zone. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series is made up of three games as of now, Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat. Each game has its own set of unique experiences and features, and each game has a new twist upon the life of a Stalker.
The game series is based off of the Chernobyl Nuclear catastrophe, with it's own fictional additions. The zone is an irradiated hell hole that was formed after the second explosion at the powerplant, it's filled with anomalies and known to be home to deadly mutants. The zone is populated by scavengers nicknamed S.T.A.L.K.E.R's, which stands for "Scavenger, Trespasser, Adventurer, Loner, Killer, Explorer, Robber". There are also various other factions of stalkers which may be friendly, neutral, or hostile.
This is just a quick overview, for in depth information I recommend to go to the STALKER websites listed below. The Wiki is a bonus that holds extra information but does give away several spoilers.
- Good hunting S.T.A.L.K.E.R!

Also, the new OP is looking sexy Amez.
Any idea why the custom forum was locked in the first place? And whether it will ever be unlocked?

No idea why, wasn't it after the move to a newer version of the forum?
Thanks for choosing a sort of play on my title :v:

The custom forums are locked as of right now for some odd reason, ah I don't know where to suggest to put your story :frown:
Actually post it in the old thread, and I'll link to the post in the OP!

If you only knew where I'd been, and what I saw...
Oh wait, you do know where I've been. Brothers, I just returned from a trip to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
It all began at about 9AM in Kiev, Ukraine. The rest of the tour group and myself were loaded into a couple microbuses, and the journey North began. The drive took about 2 hours, so we were amused by the showing of the documentary "The Battle of Chernobyl," detailing the disaster and the efforts to contain it. Lots of footage from the 80s. Very dramatic--and informative! Finally, we reached the perimiter of the "outer Zone--" the beginning of the 30KM surrounding the NPP. We presented our passports to the guards and traveled along a trafficless road, heading ever farther North.
A short drive later, we reached the town of Chernobyl, the thousand-year-old village that now serves as the base of operations for those working within the Exclusion Zone. It lies roughly 15KM from the NPP. After a quick introduction from our guide, we had a delicious lunch (imported from outside the Zone, of course) and set off in our trusty vans for the "Inner Zone"-- the 10KM area around the Chernobyl Industrial Area.
After passing briefly through another checkpoint, we reached the banks of the river Pripyat, where the rusted, half-sunk hulks of fishing boats could be seen. From there, we visited the site of the village of Kopachi, which now served as a radioactive burial site for industrial machinery used in the clean up. There were no signs of buildings.
From there, we headed for Reactor #1, a mountain of concrete erected in the 1960s. We also examined several abandoned buildings by the river, where our guide found a discarded deer or moose rack. When he got close to it, his dosimeter went crazy! Apparently, radiation tends to build up in calcium deposits like antlers. "This," he said, "is why people cannot live here, ever."
Finally, we went further up the road, and suddenly the entire Chernobyl Industrial Area was in view. In the distance, the white and red tower of Reactor 4 loomed ominously. We stopped for photos, and to examine the site of Reactor 5, where construction was begun shortly before the disaster. The structure was, of course, unfinished, its grey form surrounded by rusting cranes. With that under our belts, we pressed on.
Our next stop was at the south end of the main building that houses Reactors 3 and 4. We were cautioned not to take photos of the building from this side, but not seeing any militsia or other authorities, I snapped some photos of the main entrance anyway. For you STALKERs, this is the area you approach when you first enter the NPP area from Pripyat.
Then we were off again, in a long loop around the building for a good look at Reactor 4, and its ominous "Object Shelter," AKA The Sarcophagus. When we emerged from the vans, I was shocked to see that we were only a few hundred meters from the rust-stained hulk of Reactor 4. The tower, which was the only way to see the Reactor from a distance, now loomed over our heads. We spent a good long time taking photos, and the it was off to that famed ghost town, Pripyat.
As we drove into Pripyat, thick stands of trees and bushes blocked our view. The town may be devioid of humans, but it's full of life. We got out of the vans at Pripyat's central square, and headed for the hotel (yes, THAT hotel. No decoders here, sadly). The contrast between wreckage and unrestricted nature was amazing. Among the carpeting of broken glass and tile, trees actually grew from cracks in the floor. From the hotel's top balcony, we could see over the treetops and roof of Pripyat clear to rhe now-distant NPP.
From there we walked over to some kind of cultural center. Soviet murals decorated the walls, and one room turned out to be an actual theatre, albeit without a single seat in the place (Monolith base? Monolith base). Spooky. We went through the building to the gymnasium, and what did we see through its tall windows but the infamous Ferris Wheel of Pripyat. The amusement park it formed the centerpiece of was only a few meters away. We walked there awhile, among the rusted bumper cars and cracked concrete, before returning to the vans to see more of Pripyat.
The next place we visited was the swimming pool of COD:4 fame, now grafitti'd and littered with wreckage of all shapes and sizes. I wanted to climb the diving board, but the ladder had been (prudently) removed. The next stop was the Pripyat elementary school, our final stop in the town. Floor after floor was filled with discarded books, broken desks, and tattered gas masks. It was genuinely eerie. Thankfully, it was not the infamous Kindergarden, so I never had to face DAT LION.
From there we motored back to Chernobyl town, to be scanned for radiation. Now, I was a bit worried, seeing as I'd brought plenty of pale dust from the Elementary on my shoes and pants, but everyone got the green light from the machine and we said our goodbyes to the Zone. From there it was a short drive to the outer checkpoint (where they scanned us again, just to be sure) and a weary drive back to Kiev, where I arrived not half an hour ago.
That's my story, fellow STALKERs. I can't get any photos uploaded now, but when I get home in a week, you'll be able to view a selection of the 400-odd photos I took with me out of the Zone.

As long as they're media tagged then I have no problem with that, if you don't want to media tag then post the full story in the older thread and I'll link it to the OP as well.

I might just include the photos as links in the story text, since I reference almost all of the stuff I photographed. Anyway, that's for later. And now I'm all alone, on this stinking underground mission...Vasiliev doesn't count, he's just a burden that I have to protect!

Sounds to awesome.
You're fifty posts early. I do believe that is cheating. Please lock the thread mods, as no one said he could be OP nor that he could close the thread about three hours before the last thread is going to close.

Minecraft is for pussies. Real men face the bloodsucker, not cubes and cube creatures.
Minecraft is for pussies. Real men face the bloodsucker, not cubes and cube creatures.
Real men can't take a break from high poly creatures every now and then?
Seriously though, Minecraft and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. aren't even comparable.
Guys, you have to finish the other thread first.
Guys, you have to finish the other thread first.
Why? So we can have 50 more posts about the OP of the next one?
Will you put my banner up at least?
