This was a game series I much adored, and would love to see a revisit, although because of the publisher, and the disolvement of Pandemic, I don't see it as very likely
Battlezone 1 was released in 1998, it was a FPS/RTS hybrid, developed and published by Activision, Set in the cold war era, it depicted an alternate story of the events and reasons behind the 'space race', which was infact in the search for Bio-metal, an unique material that was much desired. This acts as the game's sole resource. The majority of the game is played from a First/Third person perspective ((interchangable depending on preference)), with possiblity to enter a topdown view if you had access to the comm-link. Featuring two campaigns, and the Red Odyssey Expansion pack BattleZone I is a freeware game, as is the Red Odyssey expansion pack.

Battlezone II was Developed by Pandemic studios as a sequel to the first game, while none of the story or characters carried over, the same core Idea did, and was improved upon, Base building became a core element of gameplay, and much greater numbers of units could be gathered ((Up to 100, 10 types max)), The story focused on dealing with a new alien threat, known as the Scion, of which the surprising truth of them is revealed, This game Has two possible endings, about half way through, you will be faced with a choice to make... Multiplayer was drastically improved with a bit of variety, from plain out deathmatch, to capture the flag, to Strategy matches which can last hours in a good playoff Mods and patches for the second game can be found at BZScrap The Battlezone II was the Crysis of its day. Nothing really matched it in overall graphical quality. I mean, it had water reflections, (very buggy) dynamic shadows, and huge maps. This hit a nostalgia softspot for anyone else?
Knowing Activision they'd fuck up a third one.
Where's 3com111, he's been jerking off to this game since the first one came out [editline]10th April 2012[/editline] Fucking constructors take forever to get anywhere and friendly AI likes to assault enemy bases by itself. Great game though
Wow.... these games were amazing. I would love to see a proper revival of the series. Just another one of those fairly unique games that dropped off the radar
Nevermind it possibly getting fucked up if it was revival, it only has a niche following so all of 20 people would buy it so all that cash being thrown at it would just be wasted.
I loved the design of everything and the really varied planets. The two are among the few RTS games Ive played where you had to plan offensives on enemy bases and still defend your own from waves of enemies. In one mission in BZII, you got ambushed in the opening sequence as the ISDF attempts an armistice, and you had to pull back and build a base from nothing while getting ready for the first wave of attackers that arrive literally just as you can start building basic craft. And then when you got to the stage where you could build your favourite unit, in my case the Walker, you could outfit it with a load of insane guns like lasers and cannons. It was nuts.

Lest us not forget the impossibility of Fleshstorm, or the madness of Xmod

Also, is this another one of your anti-pc gaming posts? Shit is getting old man.
