Yeah, just about the best you'll get is Missing Information, and all that includes is Borealis and some E3 test maps. The rooftop fight is neat, though.
There really isn't anything interesting or playable in the rest of the real beta. It's incredibly unfinished and a lot of stuff is broken. Unless you have an undying love for dev textures and maps with very few features, just stick with Missing Information.
Im getting missing information now. 684 mb, 2 hrs 31 min @ 60 kb/s. Gonna be a long night...
It's not even remotely playable. The AI hardly works, the maps are unfinished, it's full of bugs and it will crash a lot.
The only reason anyone would get it is just to check out the maps, not to play it.
There's more to the beta than playability and the story. It's cool to have a "behind the scenes" kind of feel, and exploring maps built back in 2002. Missing Information pales in comparison, featuring maybe 1/32 of the beta content.
i remember when i tried to add the weapon models and sounds and etc. My HL2 crashed and burned. lol Had to redownload it.T_T

It really isn't. A lot of scripts are missing or unfinished, so you'll get stuck a lot. Same with maps, some maps are missing and will take you back to the main menu, others will cause you to turn up in a completely different map when loading is done. Ontop of this many maps aren't finished and thus you will not be able to progress.
But if you plan on just looking at the maps and such, be sure to grab the WC Mappack as well.

Yeah, but the OP asked for [b]playability[/b] specifically. I won't deny that exploring the beta is incredibly neat, but it takes time and patience to do it right and doesn't serve up much to play as a game at all.
Well... maybe I'm just silly, but if a game's beta isn't playable, it isn't much of a beta. If you mean playable as in it will work well, then nope. It's not too stable.

It's OK, he comes from this new age of Fileplanet 'betas' that all the kids with paid subscriptions are into now. The thought that a beta could come from anywhere else and be anything but playable and an accurate rendition of the final product scares and infuriates him.
