• PS Jailbreak- A plug and play PS3 game backup-er!

Yesterday I received a small USB device titled PS Jailbreak. I did a little research and found out that it is used to copy your PS3 games onto your PS3. http://psjailbreak.com/index Now I am unsure if Facepunch has ever heard of this. It seems to be relativity new, so I had assumed you guys haven't. If you have, then mods feel free to lock a thread of old content. It claims you can simply plug it in and be copying your games onto your PS3 in minutes. No modification of your PS3 at all. This sounded great. Seeing as I got the official USB for free. (Just showed up in the mail, but was addressed to me) I thought I would give it a shot. Now there are many alternatives to this, I myself have not done very much research into modding my PS3 to play backups, I just haven't been interested. This thing came along and promised to be quick and easy. After reading the instructions a few times, and figuring out the correct install process, IT WORKED. If I had completed all the steps properly it wouldnt have taken more than 15 minutes to get everything properly installed. Only a download manager needs to be installed. It doesn't mess with your warranty or anything. The only restriction is firmware below 3.50. Also don't trust any software that is not on the site itself. Instead of giving you guys a video already made by somebody off of youtube I decided to make my own: (Youtube still has to process it) I do realize this can be used for piracy. But so can uTorrent, yet discussion about that isnt bannable. So please people, respect the developers that put a lot of hard work and time into their games, and buy them. I myself am happy to have all of my games (which I own) in the system, so I dont have to search for the CDs every time I want to play something and have every game in one place. So remember, don't be a douche, buy your games. If you guys want me to upload an video tutorial I will. Just let me know.
What use is there other than piracy?
Teach me how to get one for free.
I was thinking about buying one, but can you still play online?
So you can have all of your games on it without needing to change discs. I do not know how to get one for free. My method was purchase stuff from DX for a very long time until they either sent me one because Im a constant customer, or accidentally put it in my order. Im pretty sure you cant play online, THATS because of piracy. I think it will let you but I read something about banning, so I dont want to even try it. i would rather just get off my lazy butt and toss in MAG or LBP instead of chancing it.

It is extremely easy to use. Even technologically illiterate people could use it. Download a single file onto a separate USB device. plug it into the PS3. Select "install backup manager" Go to the backup manager after the whopping 5 second install. Boot it up and put in the game. Select "backup game".... wait 15-40 minutes (RdR took 15) and youre done.
Is there anyway to downgrade your firmware, or are you basically screwed if you've been updating?
Is there anyway to downgrade your firmware, or are you basically screwed if you've been updating?
I saw something called a PS Downgrade somewhere on the site.
Well reportedly the PS downgrade is free now. Which it is. You put it on a USB and plug it in and it downgrades your PS3. All articles saying it cost are outdated. Its free now. I myself couldnt get it to work, the software wouldnt recognize my USB device. I think it was because I mistakenly changed the driver directory on my first try. but if you get it to work it seems to be able to downgrade your firmware just as easily as the backup manager is to install. [editline]30th November 2010[/editline] http://psdowngrade.com/news [editline]30th November 2010[/editline] This is kind of a tutorial on how to use the downgrader. But it was written for one of the first beta testers back when you had to pay for it. Now I am unsure what happens in place of sending your serial number by email. But the basic jist of it is the same: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f6/psjailbreak-update-released-dealers-psdowngrade-site-goes-live-70091/
I've thought about it, but I'm waiting to see if Sony is willing to ban users for jailbreaking.
What I don't understand is how come you can't do this with just any USB stick? Why must it be from these Jailbreak guys. It's most likely nothing more than just a program, nothing special about the USB stick itself.
right. But the downgrader doesnt work with anything but the official USB stick. now Im not saying to buy it from them. I just wanted to tell you guys of a program that works so well and is easy. If somebody can find the same program (I myself wouldnt really trust anything else) post it here. Ive seen the same program put on a generic USB, I just dont know where to get the program. [editline]30th November 2010[/editline]
I've thought about it, but I'm waiting to see if Sony is willing to ban users for jailbreaking.
It doesnt jailbreak the PS3. But I myself dont have it connected to the internet right now.
And how long will it be til we can play 3.50 games this way??
According to the forums that follow this thing very carefully, they say that compatibility for 3.5 firmware is being worked on right now. No release date but last I heard they were close as of the beginning of November.
I bought a fake jailbreak i think. I am stupid for doing it.. Guess I will have to see when it arrives.
Well I dont know if the fake ones work. But I have heard they do not work, or as well. I do believe you can find the program somewhere with some digging and use your own USB, but I have no idea where it is. Let us know how the fake one works.
Teach me how to get one for free.
PSFreedom I'd adivse against buying the PSJailbreak device. There are free ways of doing this, just as long as you own a supported device. As for downgrading and online play - there'll be a free downgrade solution sometime soon. And, it's currently not possible to play online. Though, I'd imagine it wouldn't be such a great idea.
What use is there other than piracy?
Emulators; homebrew; CFWs; get Linux back and such.
All I want to do this for is universal Remote Play. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be worth the trouble it could possible cause in the future.
What version is your playstation firmware? I believe that Sony had patched these USB sticks to not work in recent updates.
3.41 I believe
Jailbreak is a silly term.
Jailbreak is a silly term.
no more silly than "hack"
Is this feature and the backup games removable? Like, so that you could play online with a disc after 'uninstalling' this? Or is it a pseudo-permanent/irreversible hack that marks your PS3 for banning by Sony or something?
Yeah. It only installs a game backup program. you can simply remove the USB device and sony cant tell crap. As long as you play online with an original disc youre fine. If you want to completely remove it, all you have to do is unplug the USB, then uninstall the backup manager.
You can mod your PS3 without buying a POS stick. I did it with my EVO 4G. Hell, you can do it with a fucking TI-84 :V
I myself would recommend doing it for free. It takes effort but its possible. I just made a thread because it was so freaking easy to get my games onto my PS3.
Oops, I looked up buying one of these against the recommendations in this thread for free alternatives, and turns out PS Jailbreak is banned (illegal to sell) in Australia. Guess it's a free alternative then!
Yeah it's so easy...but what if YOU FREAKING HAVE 3.50?!
I myself would recommend doing it for free. It takes effort but its possible. I just made a thread because it was so freaking easy to get my games onto my PS3.
Effort ? Minimal effort at most. http://www.psfreedom.com/ :)
