Can I enable steam downloading while playing a game?

So, I'm currently installing a game on steam, and I want to play a steam game while it is installing. Can someone figure this out and help me?

Yes.
Alt tab out of the game, right click the game and click stop updating. Then right click it again and click resume updating. Then go back into the game. There, your game is downloading and you're playing a game.

It does it to reduce network latency when playing multiplayer games, unfortunately it doesn't really know the difference between when you are playing multiplayer and when you are playing singleplayer, so it just stops downloads as soon as you start a game.
