As the title reads, post and discuss the game engines that you thought were a waste of time coding and/or copy the concepts of an other. I have no examples off the bat so I'll just wait in anticipation.
The one what far cry 2 uses, yeah. It looks impressive, yet its not moddable. Fuck.
CryEngine 3. Making games look worse is advancing an engine, when you already have the most graphically advanced engine in gaming?

Fuck.
Yeah it's really great being able to render so much beautiful effects in real-time on hl2-like framerates, only thing is that when it comes to outside developers with Ubisoft Montreal, They can be real pricks. Now they come in with the scissor bullshit. EDIT: SCISSOR BULLSHIT ON CONSOLES MIND YOU DISAGREEING FOOLS!
Gamebryo The one Fallout 3 and Oblivion use. They could have been much better on a better engine.
Gamebryo The one Fallout 3 and Oblivion use. They could have been much better on a better engine.
Yeah it's horrid. I recently started playing Oblivion and I noticed that Oblivion has better lightning/shadows than Fallout 3. There is no self-shadowing in Fallout 3 for example and you can't have AA and HDR at the same time, engine limit or some shit.

And they removed self-shadowing because it was shit.
and you can't have AA and HDR at the same time
Yes you can.
CryEngine 3. Making games look worse is advancing an engine, when you already have the most graphically advanced engine in gaming?
This.
Erm, you can have AA and HDR at the same time in FO3, the engine was upgraded after oblivion's release. And they removed self-shadowing because it was shit.
No you can have HDR in Oblivion as well, Geforce 8 or higher does it perfectly.
No you can have HDR in Oblivion as well, Geforce 8 or higher does it perfectly.
I mean at the same time. Despite modern graphics cards having the capability, they never patched the game to allow it. The closest they came was the ATi 'Chuck Patch'.
I mean at the same time. Despite modern graphics cards having the capability, they never patched the game to allow it. The closest they came was the ATi 'Chuck Patch'.
The nVidia and ATi control panels allow it without any big fuss.
The one what far cry 2 uses, yeah. It looks impressive, yet its not moddable. Fuck.
agree agree agree
The nVidia and ATi control panels allow it without any big fuss.
I was talking about the in-game settings. Oh well, yes, you're right.
I was talking about the in-game settings. Oh well, yes, you're right.
I'm pretty sure they abandoned Oblivion patching, and looks like the same happened to Fallout 3.
The fucking Source engine.
The fucking Source engine.
It's becoming old, yet it's still stable and modable. Garry's Mod. Hurr.
Pretty much any engine that has no window mode option is a waste halo3 engine is the waste because they wont port it to the PC
The fucking Source engine.
It could have been a lot worse. Sure the engine today is fairly dated but it's so flexible and it's been used for so many games and other projects. Still, it couldn't hurt for Valve to start putting some effort into a new engine instead of re-using source to shit.
To some extent, the Orange Box engine.
Unreal engine. All of them.
Source engine can be great if people make a full conversion but most people half ass it and leave half life sounds in and shit. Just ruins the whole mod.
The fucking Source engine.
:cawg:
OMG, not another "I don't know what i'm talking about but me still flame allt engines" thread *facepalm*
Unreal engine. All of them.
Yeah, that's why some of the most influential games ever were powered by them.
original Fallout engine doom 3 engine was good for ONE GAME ONLY and it was Doom 3...
original Fallout engine doom 3 engine was good for ONE GAME ONLY and it was Doom 3...
The Doom 3 engine was only used for Doom 3, until it was renamed to id Tech 4.
OMG, not another "I don't know what i'm talking about but me still flame allt engines" thread *facepalm*
Why exactly are you doing this? I know what I'm talking about, thanks for the boxes.
original Fallout engine
Please explain.
