• Suggest me some mining games

I have both Minecraft and Clonk Endeavour, and I love the mining aspect of both of them; being able to dig down and get resources for building things is just awesome. I would quite like some more games like this, specifically 2D sidescroller games that I can put on my USB stick and play at college. Any suggestions?
Well infiniminer I suppose, I've not played it but I think its just like Minecraft. Maybe too similar to be worth playing if you've played minecraft
Dwarf fortress is the best I can think of, but it doesn't really match your requirements.
Dwarf Fortress only if your college has good enough computers. It has loads of underground exploration with curious beasts etc.
dig dug.
Also, Dwarf Fortress has real-life minerals (rather than 'iron ore' or 'copper ore') which gives it a nice believability. There are lots of different real-life stones and soils in the game that you'll find in real-life geological layers. The metal ores and stuff are even in veins, small clusters or large clusters depending on what the material is.

Except it's actually called what the ore really is called, Hematite etc.
Iron ore exists...
However it is called something else than just generic "iron ore". Hematite, for example, is an iron ore. [editline]03:10PM[/editline] Goddamn ninjas
While not mining, Stranded II is quite excellent when it comes to "gathering" gameplay. And it's pretty shallow but the resource gathering in Cortex Command I find to be quite cozy.
Except it's actually called what the ore really is called, Hematite etc.
No need to argue semantics.
No need to argue semantics.
He wasn't arguing, he just corrected your misunderstanding.
minecraft
Thanks for all the suggestions. At the first response; Yeah, I thought infiniminer was a bit too similar to minecraft for it to be worth getting. I have been looking at DF, I just keep getting put off by how complex it looks (having never played an ASCII based game like that). I will force myself to give it a go! @GawdOfROFLS: Nice way to read the thread :V
Motherloads pretty cool.
Motherloads pretty cool.
Oh shit, I remember playing that ages ago. Nostalgia'd.
I'm looking at motherload now
Dig miner or something similiar is available on Xbox Live Arcade, if you got a console check it out. Though it's nothing special.
Don't be put off by Dwarf Fortresses' complexity, I was, but I was sure that it was worth learning, and oh dear fucking god, it was more than worth it. You'll be happy you learned how to play once you do.
Kyle: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking :P I'm going to download it now. junker: I don't have an xbox :P Oh well I found a flash game about mining called motherload, I assume that's the one you guys were talking about. It was alright, but it didn't really feel like I was working towards anything :P

Clonk Minecraft Infiniminer Minervga
There's an indie game called Minder Dig Deep on Xbox live marketplace. It's very addicting and is very much worth the buy, I suggest you look it up.
