Here's an article written by a dude who was brought in to fix some bugs, previewing official Linux support for Steam and Source.
In case that site's down (it's currently suffering on my end), here's a quick summary: They're currently focusing on Left 4 Dead 2, because it's a stable codebase. More Valve games will come soon. They're doing entirely native ports, no Wine or other emulation wrappers. The release date is "not too far out", but it'll likely be as a public beta limited to just L4D2. While his exact words weren't published, Gabe's apparently surprisingly enthusiastic about the OS and extremely negative about Windows 8... Interesting times, huh?
There's also some photos of L4D2 running natively in Ubuntu. Here's one of them!

Finally I'll be able to move away from this stupid Windows?
Holy shit, time to get a Linux distro.

Will you!?
Wonder if they're gonna show this off in their private E3 booth.
Are earbuds included?
Jokes aside, it's cool that Steam develops IMO.

Penguin messenger bag for the Scout.
Thank god, soon I can move over to Linux.
That's nice, I've been waiting for this since they announced Steam for OSX.
That's nothing... You will see what else is coming at E3. The biggest steam update. Lots of features for TVs, Pcs.
FINALLY!
Although this won't make me move over to Linux. So many good games that still require Windows to run.
This will make me use Linux instead, hopefully they'll add Dota 2 on release :)
This might make me actually use Linux on my desktop now. I already use it on my laptop, but that doesn't exactly do much gaming.

Indeed I will, I don't do much gaming as I used to, mostly, I stick around Source Engine games.
This is great, but I don't see them pushing these assets out to source developers, which is really disappointing.
It's going to be another year of fantastic developments at Valve that people like me will never get to utilize. It's been several years since any significant update for the SDK, and it's starting to irritate me severely.
Just think on all those Humble Bundle games with Linux support right on launch on Steam. Sweet.
I am happy for Linux users because they can play their favorite games on their favorite operating system. Hooray for Linux users!
This is great!
