Sven Coop ruined? - Games - Facepunch Forum

So today I was playing Sven Coop, it has been several years since I last played it (early 08) and I completely forgot about the 4.0 update. So I got 4.6, launched a game on Opposing Force and what do I see? The new weapons are f**ked up,the majority of the players were shooting the Gene Worm just for XP and leveling (the server I was playing on had that XP mod) and I said, "Why aren't you activating the valve and the gearbox?" and they responded like "We're doing it for the XP, not the campaign." I know this is a useless thread so rate me dumb all you want but what happened to all the good players and things about Sven Coop? It's like the SC team took the best part of Sven and made it horrible on purpose. EDIT: I did use the Low-Def model pack for Sven-Coop 4.6, but the players are the main issue here.

It died.

I think the problem is that you are playing on a server with an xp mod, not Sven Coop itself

I'm more annoyed by the tacticool guns, sounds, etc. from the newest version. As a former dire sven lover, I don't like how they pretty much killed the "half-life" part of their mod after 3.0 You may tell me to use low-def model packs and such, but it's not just that. The new AI is incredibly unstable, random and unfun. Even the weapon behavior themselves were made terrible (mp5 grenades, random bullet spread, unfitting new particles) [img]http://www.svencoop.com/images/svenbutton.gif[/img] more like wannabe-cod with aliens.

I don't usually play sven. I do understand why most of the community died. I think even 3.0 I felt was just run and gun and thats why I always liked it. I met a lot of my friends in sven and I usually only play with friends on sven since there are really no servers that aren't XP mod/have players. Side note: What happened to turrican and slidje? Good old days of 3.0 and half-life goodness are gone.Stopped playing after 4 because the svencoop I loved and grew up playing was gone.I just can't get used to it because not only it's easy as fuck but I miss the old half-life feeling.

I'd pick OC over Synergy anyday for a more sven-coop like experience. If you just want Half-Life 2 co-op, though, Synergy is the way to go.

The only thing I loved about Synergy was the vans and the custom weapons, too bad they won't bring the fists back for "copyright reasons" when many mods like SMOD use them to this day.

I play Sven Coop with my buddies almost daily, loads of fun.

I remember when entmod worked, i used to be so good at it. The good ol' days.

Entmod does work, but requires a LOT more configuration to get it working correctly. Also, Sven-Coop sucks now mainly because of the lack of players and shitty servers. I would play OC, but it's not updated often enough a lost a lot of players.

Sven Coop 3.0 was the ultimate "chill out" mod where you could fuck around, listen to HLSS music, and play weird levels that involved you doing things like going through obstacle cources where the goal was to survive as long as possible, turn yourself into a human basketball, play classic arcade games like Donkey Kong in first person, dick around in a Resident evil-themed level, and run for dear life after activating a self-destruct sequence in a highrise building. Did 4.0 get rid of that feeling in favor of tacticlol shit? :(
