• Spore: Hate it, love it, why?

Personally, Spore is the best buy I have. :iia: It's the only game I play on a continuous basis. Sure, Gmod is fun, but the best mods for it (Like GBombs or whatever it's called) require WireFuck which I can't figure out for my life and yet I keep installing it. What I'm wondering is, why does everyone here hate it?
The hype ruined everything.
The hype ruined everything.
this.
I don't hate it, it just was not nearly as good as the years of hype had portrayed it to be. Maybe if I hadn't heard of the game until its release I would appreciate it more...
I enjoyed it when it first came out, I revisit it from time to time, but it's not something I play every day.
Spore felt pointless in the Space Stage. All you do is deliver spice to other planets... what is fun about that? Then comes the "OMG HOMEWORLD/COLONY/FRIEND PLANET UNDER ATTACK HALP!!" when you're on the other side of the galaxy. They can't fucking defend themselves. You raised them. You nurtured them. You gave them love. You helped them become the #1 species on the planet. And then they build you a ship and say "get out, but help build our empire!" I did not expect my dragon species to turn into a bunch of sweat shop workers to make spice for me. That's not what I raised them up to be. And if that's not bad enough... the sim'ish voice they make when you buy something from them, every time you make a purchase.
'kno wat's a gud game? cnc generals
'kno wat's a gud game? cnc generals
That totally has to do with what the OP was about.
'kno wat's a gud game? cnc generals
Surprisingly, nuking terrorists is more fun then going around space, going to war with people and blowing up planets :\
it's a piece of shit
Surprisingly, nuking terrorists is more fun then going around space, going to war with people and blowing up planets :\
Not really. I prefer to go the diplomatic route, forming alliances with FUCKING EVERYTHING. But to be honest, It's just one of those runny-shooty games I despise ('Cept for Tf2, L4D and CS:S) except you're floating up there eating all the pack lunches, and eventually it boils down to 'Select all units and Attack which enemy looks at me funny'. Now, I do agree about hype issues, but to be honest I just kind of trailed along. I didn't go into the game looking for Jesus Kitten, I came into the game seeing it as an outlet of artistry and perhaps deathcat. ALSO: I want to strangle the fucking necks of everyone who creates those fucking 'Clark and Stanley' shitstorms posed as adventures and slap everyone who plays them without being forced to do so.
I love it. I can create a species independent from my own, place it on a planet, make it sentient, let it grow and then force them to worship me. I am fully satisfied with my purchase.
I ran out of reinstalls. :saddowns:
If you look past the hype it's a pretty good game. However if you actually bought into the hype for the better part of five years it's basically a broken promise that shattered every single dream you ever had, causing you to become extremely depressed for months. But after you get over it, still a good game.
The hype ruined everything.
More like EA ruined everything. According to Will Wright they dumbed it down so it would appeal to casual gamer. Aka targeted the most profitable group. What was lost: - Blood - Fish stage - The oh so awesome skeleton system seen in the earlier videos - Shit I can't remember
The fact that it played like a children's game. Very simplistic and juvenile.
You must be the most manic depressive person on Facepunch.
But I get to grab a lot of peelz from my local pharmacy so it all balances out in the end.
they were selling it as a game with infinite replayability and in reality it had like 2 play styles that were linear as shit
It was a piece of shit.
There's no variation to the style of gameplay in that game. Everything is extremely simplified and repetitive. There was no depth and overall no equality. In space stage your enemies had FLEETS. They had a fleet for every single planet plust random fleets they could send to attack your planets. You had ONE spaceship. ONE. And sure, it eventually becomes a powerhouse, but it's stupid that you have one big powerful ship and everyone else has shit tons of tiny less powerful ones. And sure, you can get your allies to give you a hand and add ships to your "fleet", but it's not the same. You can't make your own and you can only have up to five allies with you at a time. And ontop of that you can't leave them on any planets. The gameplay mechanics are very skewed.
Piece of shit that was overly simple and had no detail
I thought Spore was actually pretty good when it came out, probably cause I didn't follow any of the hype like most of the morons here Galactic adventures is also p cool, I like what they did with it

Do you not look down that list and think.. hang on a minute, even if those things were added it still would not be fun. Not to mention everybody always says the same like 5 things, and they say those 5 things with the insinuation there are more things that they know have been cut but fact is there really isn't. Those are the only things that were cut. Spore doesn't need new features, it needs to be a new game. It was a shit game design probably from the very start. Spore is a cool idea, but easily the worst possible way of putting gameplay into that idea. Hype doesn't even factor in to the final game. Hype happens along side the game. Thing is, the final game was BOOOOOORRRIIIINNNNNGGGGggggg..
Although I always wanted to make an aquatic creature, that was probably my biggest disapointment but no biggie
I wouldn't mind it if it was more sandbox based, they took out everything good and put it in an expansion pack I don't want to buy.
Also, to the people saying that it's shit I ask "Why"?
The only parts of the game that don't feel repetitive are space and cell stage. The only good part of the game was space, half of the time I just skipped to that stage once I got to it.
I loved this game, thinking about getting into it again...
Because it's linear, gay and repetitive. Boy, after I had gotten to the Space Stage, I was royally fucked up in the ass, it sucks. Constantly it's, "HALP WI R UNDA SEEGE BI PERATEZ LOLE!" or "HALP AWL AUR STUFZ IS BEING EXTINKD, WI WENT U TOO FEX UT BCUZ WER TOO LAZI LOLE!" It is easy to destroy planets, no matter how strong they are, just buy the Mega Lazer, go to their planet and keep open firing on their cities, once you die, do it again and again and again until it is all yours or dead. It was dreadful, it was the first game I ever wanted to return because it was such a pathetic steaming pile of crap. I hate it. Will Wright... Fuck you.
