Sway me Facepunch. What would best suit me? Playstation 3 or an Xbox360?

Allow me to give you some slight background on myself. I am a bit of a videophile and audiophile. I care what modern video games look like and jagged edges have the potential kill me momentarily. Now, I've done countless hours of research on both consoles and have come to find that both support anti-aliasing in games, however, they don't both ALWAYS do so. It depends on the game(for some reason). I have also deeply studied the controllers and the comfort of them, and found them both to be spectacular, yet equal in my hands.
Five things are keeping me undecided.
Firstly, the Xbox360 does not have a Blu-ray player. Which to me, is key, since I will be playing either console(whichever I decide to get) on an high definition television, and I am tired of DVD quality on this mammoth. It looks like shit. And however much one may argue that the Xbox offers DVD-Upscaling, remember that the Playstation 3 also offers that. So that's hardly a selling point. Especially when the Playstation has Blu-ray playback on top of the DVD-Upscaling.
Secondly, Valve has previously stated that they don't plan on developing for the Playstation, however, in recent months, perhaps even weeks(I don't recall exactly), one of the Valve execs(Chet Faliszek), believes that development on the Playstation will happen eventually. Is that something I should rely on? Because I absolutely adore Valve.
Netflix was once a worry, however, my third indecision is movie choice and quality of both consoles. Sony's video selection must be massive, however I am curious of it's quality. And I have heard time and time again that Xbox's Netflix support is downscaled for optimum online streaming. Which is a mega turnoff.
Fourth on the list is audio quality and ease of audio use. I have heard rave reviews of the Playstations CD-ripping skills and that it does so in a fast and efficient way. That is good news, however, when it comes to the Xbox, I know very little about audio playback. If I were planning to meld my console into a movie watching, game playing, music listening home media center, which would be the best option?
And finally, online capabilities come into play. I understand that you get what you pay for with Xbox Live, however, you are still actually paying. I have a wireless network at home and I really do expect to be able to play my games as I would on PC. For free(aside from the cable provider bills). The Playstation boasts free wireless connectivity with a browser and a menu that is simplistic(which is what I like). The Xbox's former "dashboard" was nice, however, after having seen my friends with the upgraded Xbox "Experience", I am sort of put off by it's almost childish appeal. How does the online Live connection compare to the Playstation Network? Is one more reliable than the other?
I look forward to hearing more opinions and suggestions. I tried my best to offer you a window into the way I think, so if you could, help me out on the points I don't know about. It will be much appreciated.
Buy a playbox 360 2
It sounds like you've already decided on the Playstation 3.
well, one thing to keep in mind, idk how much it will mean to you, but what do your friends have, at my school I only know of about 1 ps3 user and 50 360 users
Playstation 3. Since it went down in price it's been more worth it.
My general rule is if you have no gaming PC, get either, if you have a gameing pc already get a PS3, this is because 360 has alot of games, but alot of them lap over PC titles whereas PS3 only has a couple overlaps with pc so you have a better expansion of potential library. With few exceptions of good titles where you need a 360, like Alan Wake :(
PS3 has better exclusives, they're also a ton more reliable.
I got a replacement 360 in October, it red ringed within 31 days of purchase.
Also PSN is awesome and has a generally better community.
also netflix on ps3 streams in HD 100% of the time for me, it's the same selection. It's pretty awesome and also you get great PSN games like the pixeljunk games.
To be honest, the Ps3 is a media center that plays games. It's fantastic and I use it way more than my 360, which I hardly ever used because fuck buying a wifi adapter/wiring it.
Xbox 360. First off HD on the 360 is amazing.
They have better exclusive games and the ones that are cross platform run better on the xbox.
Also Xbox Live has so much more to offer then the playstation network.
Yes you have to pay for it, but the word on the web is soon you will have to pay for PSN.
Edit: and for many cross platform games the 360 gets exclusive DLC and/or DLC before anyone else majority of the time.
the psn thing is for a "premium" service, i.e. beta access and a few minor features.
everything that is currently free will stay free

That is not true, it's all speculation at this point, but experts are saying it'll limit online play and make current features available.
The way I see the Xbox360 - PS3 debate is that..
The ps3 is for gameplay and quality
The 360 is for online play and friends
I have a ps3 and me on a wireless connection from clear across the house, I often disconnect. But if you have a good strong wireless network, it should be just fine. From what I've seen the ps3 loads much faster than the 360, and I find the image quality amazing.
The playstation 3 is great if you don't have any friends
to play xbox with

Here are the last leaked possibilities, none of which are current features that would be removed.
However if you'd like to pull shit out of your ass, be my guest.

Playstation 3.

You'll want the Playsation 3 then, obviously.

If you have a PC, which I'm assuming you do, then just keep buying Valve games for PC. It's a known fact that Valve games are for PC.

It' might be downscaled for PS3 too, but I don't know. I don't know why they would do it for one console and not the other.

The biggest problem with XBL is that you pay for it to have shit shoved into your face. Yeah, you play online, but the annoying, constant stream of ads that it throws at you on your dashboard is fucking annoying. As for the newer Xbox interface being "childish", it's not an issue really. They both have about the same reliability. What it really depends on is the game you're playing and if they set up dedicated servers for it or use P2P connection. Most PS3 exclusives have dedicated servers set up for them.
Get a PS3.
I think if you have a good PC, get a PS3. Otherwise XBox usually is better for multiplayer while PS3 has good singleplayer exclusives.
Just from the way you have evaluated it, I would say a PS3 would be better off for you. Both are great systems and personally I wouldn't really be disappointed if I had one instead of the other.

HD on anything is pretty amazing mang.
Better exclusives? What, Halo? No thanks.
Xbox live more to offer? Hahaha. Yeah okay, have fun with your extra "offers" while I have fun with not having to pay just to play online. And no, you won't have to ever pay for PSN.
Show me examples of these Xbox exclusive DLCs.
The funny thing is, I'm not even a fan of the PS3, and I own an 360, but it annoys me to no end that blind fanboys cannot see that the PS3 is a superior package. Why is that so hard to swallow?
I did post that with acquiring a PS3 in mind, however I still had to weigh the options and hear others' opinions, and from the looks of it, you all came to the same conclusion for me that I did. And as far as having a decent gaming computer goes, It's not the top of the line like it was a year ago, but I am willing to bet that by the time the next Half Life installment or Portal 2 comes out, I will be able to still play it. Assuming it isn't also simultaneously developed for the PS3 at a slightly later date as they did with the Orange Box.
Also, I'd like to note that, even though a vast majority of friends also have Xbox360s, most of them play games that I share no interest in. And when I think about it, playing a game that I don't particularly find interest in with a friend doesn't sound like much fun. Albeit sooner or later games will come out that I will want to play with friends online, but buying a console to STRICTLY play games online with friends seems like a waste. I want something that I can use for myself too, you know? If I want to play games with friends, I'll pull out the Dreamcast/Nintendo64, have a grillout, and then come inside to some PowerStone/Perfect Dark/Goldeneye action. Or something like that.
If you are an HD nut and want to have a nice Hub for all of you movies, music, and all of that, then get a PS3. The xbox is okay at that but the PS3 has far better capabilities in HD content and stuff. It has great games too.
I own them both and love each in its own respect. On one hand the 360 does get some exclusives and DLCs. On the other hand, I watch way more movies now then before I had my PS3. No one I know though in school seems to own a PS3 so for social gaming I'd advise a 360. PS3 does seem to have a more "mature" community but considerably smaller too. Both systems are great but I think you'll get more from a PS3. They have great exclusives presently and coming in the future. Uncharted, Metal Gear, Gran Turismo, Little Big Planet, Killzone, and more. Even GTA V is rumored to be a PS3 exclusive due to size.

Hilariously, I already have a Wii...
I like having an xbox over ps3 for reasons i can not discuss. If you don't know the reason, then get a ps3.

Well, to be honest, I've been around Xbox360s a lot in the past. But it almost seems like there isn't any more potential in them. The Playstation seems to have a LOT more potential in the future. With the utilization of it's cell processor system and blu-ray storage, it has the potential to blow the Xbox out of the water, visually. That's just a formulated opinion. I'm not a fanboy of either since I don't own either. I'm just calling it the way it seems to be headed.
Don't forget imported ps3 games!
xbox's are only for playing with friends.
The best choice is both.
Oh boy here it comes.
Oh boy here it comes.
Oh boy you're real late
ITT: Massive PS3 circlejerk.
4:40 PM - trololo: The XBOX 360 is also far faster to develop for due to better development tools
4:40 PM - trololo: PS3 is prohibitively expensive
4:40 PM - trololo: The GPU is more powerful
4:41 PM - trololo: PS3 version, use a lower quality anti aliasing technique, or do back buffer upscaling. The end result in all cases is going to be noticeably worse image quality.
4:41 PM - trololo: and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower.
LISTEN TO MY FRIEND MAN, HE KNOWS HIS SHIT /sarcasm
Just to reiterate a previously brought up point: it seems you've swayed yourself.
