Mega Man! Who doesn't know Mega Man, the blue bomber? The one who made Capcom's name known, next to Street Fighter? [sub][sub]Capcom sure forgot.[/sub][/sub]
I don't know Mega Man, who the fuck is he?
Well, I'll tell you everything about it!

There are many variants of Mega Man, all rather different, but falling under the same name one way or another.
The original classic Mega Man, was thought up and produced by two men named Akira Kitamura and Keiji Inafune back in the mid to late 1980s.
The Mega Man series, known as Rockman (ロックマン Rokkuman?) in Japan and often referred as the "original Mega Man" or "classic Mega Man", is the first series of the Mega Man franchise of games. The first game, Mega Man, was released on December 17, 1987 on the Famicom (FC) in Japan and on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in North America and Europe.
Most of the main games in the series are referred to as "Mega Man" (or "Rockman") followed by a number (2, 3, etc.). However, the ninth game in the classic series (not counting the "side-stories") is called Mega Man & Bass. The tenth official game in the classic series is titled Mega Man 9, while the eleventh one is titled Mega Man 10 both of which have a retro look, having the 8-bit appearance of the NES Mega Man games.
The basic story of the series revolves around the robot engineer Dr. Thomas Light, his robotic "children", Rock / Mega Man (a lab-assistant) and Roll (a housekeeper), and their struggle against Dr. Albert W. Wily. The series is set in the early-21st century.
Mega Man X
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22706967/megathread/594px-XAxlZeroPose.jpg[/thumb]
The Mega Man X series made its debut in December of 1993 on the Super Famicom and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).
The series is set in the 22nd century, almost one-hundred years after the events of the first Mega Man series. The story revolves around Mega Man X, the final creation of Dr. Thomas Light, who is discovered by world-renowned archaeologist Dr. Cain and used to create an advanced race of robots known as "Reploids" (called so because they are literally replicas based on the design of X). However, not long after their creation, some of the Reploids begin to go "Maverick" and attack humans. Because of this, Dr. Cain is asked by the council to put a stop to this, and as such, forms a special unit to stop these "Mavericks" known as the "Maverick Hunters." However, the leader of the Hunters and Dr. Cain's creation, Sigma, goes Maverick himself, taking many of the Hunters with him. Thus, the "Maverick Wars" begins to take shape...

NOTE: This page neglects to mention that Mega Man X6 was supposed to be the last, CANNON game before beginning Megaman Zero (GBA). X7 and X8 (and most certainly Command Mission) are technically non-cannon, and only exist for the fact that fans wanted more.
Mega Man Zero
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22706967/megathread/zero1promo.jpg[/thumb]
The Mega Man Zero series made its debut in 2002 on the Game Boy Advance and takes place one-hundred years after Zero had sealed himself after the Elf Wars. In this time-period, both the "Maverick Wars" and "Elf Wars" have ended, but a new threat has arisen. A young scientist named Ciel, leader of a "Resistance", is searching for the legendary Reploid Zero to help in the fight against the oppressive forces of Neo Arcadia. She comes across the ruins of the lab in which Zero was sealed and awakens him. Thus, Zero joins the Resistance and takes up his sword once again to fight against evil.

Mega Man ZX, known in Japan as Rockman ZX (ロックマンゼクス Rokkuman Zekusu?) is the first instalment of the Mega Man ZX series, released in Japan on July 6, 2006 and in North America on September 12, 2006. The game takes place a long time after the events from the Mega Man Zero series. This is the first game where the player can choose between a male or female hero.
The game takes place on a technologically advanced world centuries after Mega Man Zero 4. Humans and Reploids now coexist peacefully, both treated as humans due to the new laws.
In time, the habitants of Earth managed to revive some of the former nations of Earth. However, preventing further prosperity like the days of old, incidents around the world began where some of the machine life forms became Maverick, making some areas dangerous for the inhabitants, and soon this activity obstructed exchange between nations.

Mega Man ZX Advent, known as Rockman ZX Advent (ロックマンゼクスアドベント Rokkuman Zekusu Adobento?) in Japan, is the sequel of Mega Man ZX for Nintendo DS. The game was first announced at the World Hobby Fair 2007 in Japan. It is the second and most recent installment in the ZX series.
This game takes place years after the Biometal Model W incident in the previous game, Mega Man ZX. Hunters roam the ruins looking for lost technology, where wild machines called Mavericks live. The government "Legion" oversees and rules over the majority of the world's actions, with it's controllers being the Masters: Thomas, Albert and Mikhail (a reference to Drs. Thomas Light, Albert Wily and Mikhail Cossack, respectively). The player can choose between two characters: Grey and Ashe.
Mega Man Legends
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22706967/megathread/mml1psppromo.jpg[/thumb]
The Mega Man Legends series made its debut in 1997 on the Sony PlayStation. In Japan the series is called "Rockman DASH," which stands for Digouter's Adventure Stories in the Halcyon Days. [1] (which in Greek mythology, is a period of seven days in winter when storms never occur, having calm winds and waves.)
The story is centered around Mega Man Volnutt, Roll Caskett, and their "grandfather" Professor Barrell Caskett as they search the world, "digging" through ancient ruins, in search of Quantum Refractors (the major source of power for their civilization). Along the way, they skirmish frequently with the Bonnes, a group of marauding pirates and their Servbots.
Mega Man Legends 3 was announced to be in-development for the Nintendo 3DS. A prototype version was supposed to be released for the 3DS eShop, to act like a prequel to the full retail game.
On July 18,2011 the game was cancelled.
Note that the exact time the events of the series occur is unknown. It's believed that the Mega Man Legends series takes place several thousand years after the Mega Man ZX series.

Beyond this line are games that are totally out of the universe of the above games, and are mostly unrelated aside from being "parallel".
Mega Man Battle Network
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22706967/megathread/MegaMan.exe_and_Lan.jpg[/thumb]
In a parallel universe from the classic Mega Man series, the Internet has become integrated with almost every piece of electronic equipment in existence (from TVs to ovens). In fact, it's become so complicated that special programs called Net Navigators are needed to efficiently process all of the data. Net Navigators (NetNavis for short) are stored in hand-held devices called Personal Terminals (PET). These devices act as phones, pagers, instant messengers, news beams, and hacking devices all rolled into one, essentially making them portable computers.
The main characters of the series are a fifth-grader named Lan Hikari (光熱斗 Netto Hikari?) in Japan, and his NetNavi best friend MegaMan.EXE (Rockman.EXE), this universe's incarnation of the legendary Blue Bomber. Although MegaMan.EXE has no body (unless the PET device itself counts), he can wander around in cyberspace and explore computer systems as if they were alternate worlds. Together, Lan and MegaMan.EXE (also known as just MegaMan) cooperate to fight off hackers and viruses.
Mega Man Star Force
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22706967/megathread/549px-MegaMan_BattleCards.jpg[/thumb]
Mega Man Star Force, known as Ryūsei no Rockman (流星のロックマン Ryuusei no Rockman?, lit. Shooting Star Rockman) is a series of games set about two-hundred years after the Mega Man Battle Network series, in the 220X time period and takes place in the same parallel universe as the Battle Network series. The main character, Geo Stelar, son of a missing astronaut, Kelvin Stelar, reluctantly joins forces with an alien Omega-Xis, to foil evil plots, led by Omega-Xis' own kind and many other enemies, as he tries to find out what really happened to his father, and ultimately change his depressing lifestyle. Coincidentally, the result of Geo Stelar's EM Wave Change with Omega-Xis (fusing together much like MegaMan.EXE's Synchro Chip) forms Mega Man, hero of the past.
This series makes very few allusions and references to other timelines (like the classic Mega Man, X, Zero, ZX), and some to the Network timeline, as Capcom produced the series as a more "stand-alone" series, which gives players the ability to fully enjoy the series even if they haven't played the Mega Man Battle Network series.
While the Battle Network series is more focused on NetNavis who are based on Robot Masters from the classic Mega Man series, Star Force focuses on EM Beings (mostly FM-ians who are based on real life constellations), especially on those who are able to fuse with humans in the EM Wave Change.

Phew, that was hard to work on. There was a lack of an updated and active Mega Man thread, so I figured I would make one.

Oh great, they block hotlinking.
Fixed.
"Are YOU a Mega fan?"
Is that a serious question?

Oops :v:
I totally forgot that basically spelled out your username.
Edit:
But yes, it's a serious question, but not related to you obviously
... Unless you wanna take it that way then that's fine too.

Well yes if you must know, I've played quite of a few of the games.
I'd say my favourites would have to be Megaman & Bass and Battle Network 3, but the series has really gone downhill recently.
I was never one for the Battle Network series, but the character designs for Star Force really pulled me into that. I only finished the first one, the second one I got stuck at the beginning and I gave up and never went back. Still love the designs nevertheless.
If you couldn't tell (HILAROUS) the MMZ and ZX series is my favorite. :v:
TBH I want a new ZX game, because the hardmode ending to ZXA was a bit of a teaser.
Though Legends 3 would be nice too.
Capcom you greedy bastards, quit shitting out a thousand fighting and crossover games and do something for Mega Man again. ... Or did they switch their focus to Resident Evil? I forgot.
I thought this video is awesome for showing off some of Megaman's strong points in design so I'll post it:

I remember when Megaman X came out. My friend was trying to sell me on it because we both played the fuck out of Megaman 2. He said it was basically regular Megaman but more rock and roll.
I did not understand the pun at the time.
I did, however, play through the entire game while pausing every few minutes to rewind a tape cassette of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man."
Memories.
i think the first one I played was 7, followed by X2. Kind of an odd order, but after that I got into the others.
First Mega Man game I played was kinda late into it at Command Mission on the GC.
After that mom offered to buy me a random cheap game at Best Buy, and there sat Zero 4.
That's the one that REALLY set me into Mega Man.
Megaman 3, the best there ever was.
Also megaman 10 is too hard, I can't finish it.
"Capcom, Why Do You Hate Us So?"
Capcom has no respect for the people who buy their stuff, that's why.
First game I played was MM2, but my younger self couldn't quite get into it. I picked it up again though with Battle Network for the GBA and have been playing every single one I can get my hands on since then. Favourite series is still Megaman Zero, but its hard to put them in any order since most of them are great.
Megaman 3, the best there ever was.

I can't finish any of the Classic games. I'm really horrible at them.
Bit of a bump, but with a legit question.
Am I the only one who wants to see games made based on the events between X6 and the first Zero game? Reading about the story and such between those times has made me extremely curious... And I've always wanted to play as X from that era.
Of the original games 2, was my fave. No idea why, maybe because its the only one I've managed to beat.
Archie Comics has been doing a Comic series using the original games as the story line its pretty cool.
Someone at Screw Attack did a review of Issue 1
http://www.screwattack.com/news/two-bit-review-archie-comics-presents-mega-man#.T62m3FeUey0.twitter
Funny, 2 is the one I can't finish.
... Then again I don't think I can finish any of the classic ones, I'm bad at jumping and I feel like I just do better being able to dash and wall jump.

WHAT AM I FIGHTING FORRRRRRR?!
edit: wow OP really does love megaman.
A better voice actor.
That actually makes me wonder, which is worse?
X4's voice acting, or Mega Man 8's voice acting?

Dat's a gewd queshtern.
Oh god I almost forgot about this.
I find it funny that Mega Man games didn't get decent English voice acting till X8 (Or Command Mission, I forgot which one came first). Yes, I even thought X7's was sub-par.
Too bad they decided to be dicks with ZX Advent and change Model X and Model Z's English voices to someone else. Really?? The ones from X8 and on would've sufficed!
Then again they could've tried and had issues... Who knows.
Also, show some love for Mega Ran, rapper from AZ who makes hella mega man music.

Mega Man 4 forever.
Still the best trailer for a Megaman game ever:

Even if it isn't in proper continuity, that is.
Yeah, I heard it might get cancelled due to a number of issues.
That would suck, I really wanted to play it.

Makes me want a new Megaman Cartoon based off the Original games.
Makes me want a new Megaman Cartoon based off the Original games.
America doesn't seem to handle cartoons based off of Japanese games very well.
Mega Man was a joke in Captain N, and the puns were very often, and bloody terrible in the original Mega Man cartoon. Though it was a trillion times better then the Captain N version of Mega Man. Uggrhhh.
I only played Mega Man Battle Network on GBA. It was pretty fun but I never completed it.
But yeah, Capcom are huge dickheads. Shame Megaman Legends 3 got cancelled.
