Hello everyone, I am the creator of a game/ application called Online Community Wars (OCW). It is a 2D black and white war themed game that allows communities to compete and create content. I have selected Facepunch to be one of the contenders in OCW. You are the first team I have added and you already have your own tower! It looks like this: We all know reading paragraphs suck, because it requires work, so I will just put everything in a list fashion. Black and white side-scroller. Four teams with “property”. One neutral team. Every unit has a name associated to it. Everything is destructible. Lots of particles. Units move around and capture AA guns that will shoot down airplanes. Games are played in rounds. No single-player yet! I will bring out a new version every week. A “fight” every week. Winners get recognized. Top donators get recognized. I will take and use feedback and ideas! (That’s the whole point). I will try my hardest to make everyone happy. I work for YOU! Current units are: Soldier Tank WWII Airplane Carpet Bomber Also there is a rocket launcher truck and an AA truck that are in the works, they should be out the next version. Some of the things might be rocky at first since I am just launching all of this. (I will add additional questions that you may ask here) Beta Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?obkcuctx6wbbv3m I work at a factory from 10:30pm to 6:30am 6 days a week to pay for college. I will try my HARDEST when I am not at work to answer any questions and I will also spend that time working on the game. Currently I work on the game about 14 hours a week; if I get enough donations, I will quit my job and work on the game 70 hours a week. If I get enough money, I will hire people to make this better in all aspects. I would like to move to a new engine eventually too. I am launching this on only Facepunch first to make sure it all goes well, then I will post this on other sites as well. If Garry posts in this thread he gets a carpet bomber. The website: http://ocwars.com/ Forum: http://forum.ocwars.com/ Thank you very much everyone and I hope this will be to your liking! 77 of you have been added to the first iteration of the game.
Looks cool, the monochrome theme reminds me of Limbo, which is not a bad thing at all.
Looks sweet!
Will the soldiers have anything special for them? [editline]17th June 2012[/editline] Also, I really like the style. The effects look really good too.
Thank you very much everyone!
Will the soldiers have anything special for them?
They can climb buildings like no other unit can, and they can capture things like AA guns. They also each have 1 rocket to fire.
I meant the winner rating soldiers. It'd be cool if they had something normal soldiers didn't. Like instead of a rocket, 2 grenades. [editline]17th June 2012[/editline] I'd kill for a revolving grenade launcher. [editline]17th June 2012[/editline] Also, are people going to be able to control their soldier?
Good idea, I will make the soldiers special! (This is what this whole thing is about.)
It'd be cool if there was a direct control mode, where you can control the unit.
You were asking how there should be player input during the wars, I think it would be cool if you could take direct control of soldiers you bought. Because people pay for their own soldiers, they should get a chance to be able to use their soldiers as they wish. Something like: all units are AI controlled, but you can go in any time in the match and take control of the units you bought. If you leave during your match, the unit you were playing as goes back to being AI controlled. I will send some money towards the glorious Empire of Facepunch when this gets started. Edit: Dammit, Ninja'd
That sounds good, I will try to add the feature as soon as I can. OH! And I forgot, another thing I love is super rare spawns in games, so once in a (super rare) while, this will burst out of the ground and murder: Also, I LOVE when developers post dev blogs! I will try and post as many as I can. [editline]17th June 2012[/editline] Okay, as requested, I have added (beta) grenade launchers to the game. Dev Blog: It is basically a modified rocket that gets fired towards a point above the enemy unit and then falls towards the ground. Unfortunately this does not take into account distance so I have to figure out an equation that will calculate the arc that the grenade will go along so it hits at the spot the unit aimed at is. Shouldn't be too bad, but I'm much to tired to think of it right now.
Hey, guys, I'll set up a google docs file so we can put ideas there.
That is a good idea, also there is a forum for ideas and feedback too! http://forum.ocwars.com/
facepunch vs other communities?
facepunch vs other communities?
Yep! I just haven't posted it on the other communities yet. I'm starting with Facepunch and working my way to the other ones. Also FP is the only site that I have permission to use the logo and name at the moment, so I may have to do a parody of the other sites to represent them. [editline]17th June 2012[/editline] I should point out that the neutral team gets dropped off randomly around the map in pods launched from dropships that look like this:
This looks fantastic! Also I love the detail on some of the background stuff, like the houses! Also is the rare spawn a worm thing from DUNE? If it is that IS ITS SO AWESOME!
Also is the rare spawn a worm thing from DUNE? If it is that IS ITS SO AWESOME!
You bet it is! At least, that's what I tried to base it off of. I would post a picture of it "doing its thing", but that spoils the magic of seeing it.
That said, will you be able to go in buildings and fight in them?
Reminds me of Destination: Facepunch, back in the heydays of my game making escapades. Looking great, keep up the good work!
That said, will you be able to go in buildings and fight in them?
That is a possibility I have considered. I would have to create a new system for navigating buildings and make it so you can see inside of them as well.
Will there be fighter planes? Bullfights in the air would be so sick. If you are doing fighter planes, none of that target lock bullshit, just you flying a plane and shooting directly forward.
Just put a little idea in the forum. Hope you guys like it.
Will there be fighter planes? Bullfights in the air would be so sick. If you are doing fighter planes, none of that target lock bullshit, just you flying a plane and shooting directly forward.
I can do that. I'll start working on an airplane that you can pilot soon. Right now though, I'm trying to make sure it is all good so you guys can see it in its current state.
Will we have to donate to participate, or are we able to have fun for free? ;)
It's free to download and use, but to participate in the fights, you will have have to donate. I am finishing up the first release version. It will allow you to see it in real time for yourself, but there will be no singleplayer at this point because I have not finished it yet.

This would add to the amount of participants/testers; thus, the donations will roll in faster and in higher quantities. But for now, I can wait, or donate. :)
I am getting pretty darn close to releasing it for you to try. I am debating on whether or not I should release it while you still cannot actually "play" it, or if I should take a few extra days to add some singleplayer elements.

That is what I wished many multiplayer games like this had.
Well, here is the beta of the first iteration of the game. I would normally post the "fight" with this, but I decided that with the first one I will release the beta first. Here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?obkcuctx6wbbv3m Also, there is a new forum: http://forum.ocwars.com/ I hope you like it, and as always, feedback is always welcome and listened to!
You know what communities to add next, divide em in three categories, the Good (FP, Reddit (not as bad as everyone says), and other general sites that are good sites.), the Bad (4Chan (Mostly boards like /b/ and /a/, but it'd be hard to split em up and make em all unique.), Deviant Art, generally bad sites.), and the Ugly (Bronies, Furries, pretty much everyone that the internet collectively hates.)
I was actually going to start out with Facepunch, Reddit, 4Chan, and SA. I just don't want to release it and have there be something wrong with it, which is why I'm only starting with Facepunch. Then after those are all set, then I will allow other communities to apply.
