"In particular, we're intrigued by the potential of eyetrackers and the eventual ability to let gamers use their eyes as active controller inputs. For example, it may be possible in the future to let the eyes act as a proxy for the mouse cursor, letting gamers transmit navigation and targeting inputs via eye movements. If you couple this approach with the use of blinks or other proxies for button presses, you may remove the need for a mouse and keyboard (or gamepad) all together."
I think this would be amazing for able and disabled gamers alike.
Blink to fire. And keep your eyes shut to keep walking? Oh yes I can't wait for this "improvement".
Can't they get Episode Three out before they focus on this kind of thing?
Everyone would be accused of aimbotting :v:
The use of blinks or other proxies for button presses
How would that work? We would be pressing shit all the time by accident
Widen eyes to shit character's pants.

People working on steam are not the same people working on Half-Life.
How many times do we have to say Valve has teams for each game?
I feel sorry for all the Asian gamers.

Cant you do a similarish sort of thing currently using a NIA?

I don't think the Steam team works on video games. Learn to read.

Either way john_frohman was right, and your post really contributed nothing

Wow I am lucky, I was just going to post that joke.
eye tracking? seems like a bad idea.
he was deaf and alyx was learning sign language for him

forget alyx
Where is Barney?
This sound fairly awesome to me... I can rest easy that if my hands are cut off in a freak logging accident, I will still be able to play videogames. I finally feel safe living up here in Canada.

Wait, what? He's just saying that Asians have differently shaped/sized eyes, which might make this harder to use, or require special calibration. If I say that those of African descent are better protected against UV rays, is that also racism?
...Or maybe I'm totally missing the point, and he was making a racist joke. If so, my bad.

Just implied racism, still funny though.
But what about the blind players? :saddowns:

They can still use their eyes to make commands...they just won't be able to see.
...I get the feeling that Valve might make a Source-like version of the Kinect, but it would be very hard to control everything. As in the GMod Idiot Box: Episode 7 at 4:45 to 4:50 (Hopefully NOT as messed up as that Citizens leg)
It's for disabled people who want to play games, nobody forces eye tracking on to you, you can still use a mouse
Staring Contest: The Game
Or better yet, create a device that puts the gamer inside the game, giving them complete control over everything. It's like a virtual reality, but hopefully minus the pain. I'd feel sorry for people with a low-end computer, because everything around them would look like shit.

Gmod Idiot box episode 7, the part you referred to, was based off of an actual event that happened during the development or trailer or something of the Xbox Kinect.
