• "Who's the Boss? There Isn't One" A story featured in the Wallstreet Journal on Valve

The story can be found at this link; http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303379204577474953586383604.html?mod=WSJ_hp_mostpop_read It's not a bad story, a little fluff that describes some companies and their policies regarding employee-supervisor relationships, mostly focused on Valve and their offices in Bellevue.
its also on the front page of yahoo
All of the Wall Street guys are like "WHO DO THEY DECIDE TO GIVE THE HUGE BONUSES TO?"
Valve does have bosses, though. Kim Swift commented about this recently in GamesTM, where she made it clear Valve had a CEO (Gabe) and a board of directors, among other positions (such as Scott Lynch, the CFO). There are of course the project leads, though those may be seen less as boss positions and more the result of needed leadership on a project. (What's wrong with calling them managers? Negative nomenclature?) Her point was that Valve has structure (more so than what they let on in pieces like this), but that they also have much more internal freedom than many other companies. I wish Valve would stop advertising themselves as "lol no bosses/job titles." It's not an entirely accurate reflection of the company.
Wall Street. Gaben never sleeps
I would love to work at a company like this; work on what you want, less middle management and firing/hiring done by employees. Sounds like a dream.
you have to be dedicated to your job though
Wouldn't be that hard if you loved video games.
Wouldn't be that hard if you loved video games.
I positively love video games. But I would not be able to design one. Highly doubt they're willing for full-time play-testers. :v:
Currently going to school for game programming; Valve is, of course, my dream job, for this very reason.

Looks like I'm meant to put plutonium in it and go back to 1955. Is Gabe building a time machine out of a Delorean?
