We just got the Kinect as an early Christmas gift... What should I do?

First off, let me clarify that my parents wanted to get a "family" oriented gift that we could all play. I'm 18, and I don't have any siblings, so there isn't much going for the "young" vibe of the Kinect. We have a 360, no ps3 or wii.
My concern is that frankly, the only things I've heard about the Kinect have all been negative - that it's just a gimmick that will be forgotten about and neglected. Is this true, and how can I convince them of this?
My vote was for a Wii because at least with the Wii, you get some solid titles like pretty much any of the Mario games, SSBM, ect. I know that the Wii is often called a gimmick but between the two, it seems like the Wii is superior. Their argument against the Wii was that it was too expensive. Yet the Kinect doesn't seem to have many games in it's library, so both have their negatives.
I just don't know much about this stuff but I REALLY don't want my parents waste $160 or whatever it costs for the Kinect+the game they bought. So some advice would be appreciated! I guess what I'm looking for feedback on the Kinect.
Playstation move? It seems to be a more advanced Wii

Gee, I dont know. Why dont you use it? Burn off a few carbs.
I guess I should have clarified we only have a 360 at the moment
I have a Kinect (my dad bought one because he wants to hack one and use it with the PC) and it's really fun.

Kill yourself, now. It is the only way.
My personal thought about the Wii is that it is shit. The only thing I play on it is Super Smash Bros. and I can't stand the Wii remote so I use a Gamecube controller. If a game requires the Wii remote I don't buy it.
With that said the Kinect has some appeal to me. The last Wii game I played was Just Dance 2 which I had a lot of fun playing. My only problem with it was the fucking Wii remote since you had to hold it while playing since it seemed to be a really big problem when doing moves that might break the remote (like putting your hand on the ground.) With the Kinect though there is no remote so the Dance Central game for the Kinect seems like a good idea.
Plus do you know how much Microsoft is hyping Kinect? They aren't just going to abandon it. There are going to be more games for it. My biggest qualm would be weather or not they are going to release new models or if the one they released is even working at full capacity at all.

The Wii is superior, only cause it's library is bigger, can be modded for fun times, and you can always use a gamecube controller.
Playstation Move feels superior, but at the moment the library is not promising.
The Kinect...... Mediocre feel to it and the libray has no solid "games". Just a bunch of mini-games with little payback in story or deep gameplay.
Make sure you have a big room to play kinect in, stupidly the camera isn't very wide angle and it doesn't work so great if it can't see your feet (although it does still work, just games which require leg movement and jumping sometimes don't detect it)
The only non-gimmick game for Kinect is Dance Central. So unless you like dancing* it's a waste of money.
*Also if you have a Wii or don't need a game to dance it's still worthless.

Well the Wii has too much shovel ware so the only real games are anything Nintendo released and a handful of third party titles. And I guess anything on Virtual Console and Wii Ware. Though if you like Nintendo's games then go for it. The Kinnect is proving to be just as versatile in modding.
What you said about the other two is only accountable to the fact that they haven't been out as long.
I just bought myself a Kinect so I can get a better understanding of that I am selling to my customers. (I work at gamestop) And I really like it! I am very surprised on how well it detects movement! I really enjoy Kinect Sports aswell. Don't listen to the people who say its a gimmick, they probably never played it! It's up to your opinion if you think it's a Gimmick or not.

Thanks, that (along with some I the other replies) are exactly what I'm looking for! My question to you is regarding the games available and upcoming for it...do you feel that there is enough good content to keep it fresh? I'm not familiar with any of the games, none of them have grabbed my attention.
We've got a Kinect as well. Haven't played it yet, will let you know.
It's not as bad as people make it out to be because it actually does what it's supposed to do, it's just that there's not many games and most of the games that are out don't work too well.

I've played several things on it and while I do still believe it's just a gimmick for Microsoft to get in on the casual/motion control market, I found it to work much better than people make it out to.
Ignore hooking it up to the Xbox, there's a metric shitton of awesome uses for it if you walk across the room and plug it into your computer.
Want to elaborate? I never knew it could be hooked up to a computer
Keep the kinect, get Kinect Joyride, get a chair, and do this:

Every time I see this video it makes Kinect look like a gimmick. I mean it really makes the tech look fake.
