I've been in the mood for a good Beat 'Em Up for awhile now, something maybe similar to Die Hard Arcade. I've played the Fighting Force games, so those are out. Any platform will do, I know some of the greats were on the older ones. And yes I've played the Streets of Rage games. If anyone can recommend their favs, that will be appreciated.
Tetris.
Pong.
Are you talking about Retro games?
If so.. Golden Axe is a pretty good one IMO.

I've always thought of Devil May Cry as a beat em up - so I'd also reccomend that, any of the series will do, tbh.
Well not just retro games, but I'm guessing these types of games aren't really made anymore. I might have to check Golden Axe out. I've played a couple of the Devil May Cry games. Thanks for the input. Oh and yes I've played Tetris and Pong :v:.
I just found another awesome beat 'em up game, It's one of the most under-rated games for PS2 IMO - It's called "God Hand"
Here's a video incase you want to check it out:

It's a very fun and has alot of comedic aspects. :buddy:
Zeno clash
I'd forgotten about God Hand and yes I've played it and it is awesome. I played a little Zeno Clash and it was kind of neat but aside from the characters and environments, it was a little bland gameplay-wise. I look at that as more of a bizarre FPS. At least it was unique though.
River City Ransom.
It's on the wii's virtual console, (It has a other name in PAL regions though).
Or get it's remake to the gameboy advance, River City Ransom EX. Best beat'em up ever.
Wait, it's on www.nintendo8.com
One of my friends is a big retro dude, he plays Mario in class
All the time. most NES games there. Not sure if it's legal though
Zeno Clash was so creepy, Father-Mother scares the hell out of me.
Hmm I remember playing that one a long time ago. I'm looking for something with a little more variety in the opponents, although I think I will add it to the "maybe" list. Thanks for the idea.
Dora goes to school
My favorite 'Beat-em-ups' are the Dynasty Warriors series.
They run the varied gamut... But there's a ton of them out there at the moment. Beat up tons of people, and get a rudamentry crash-course on the history of the Three Kingdoms! Most have decent RPG elements to them, like leveling up and gaining stats, as well as randomized equipment and weapons (Though it's no Diablo 2, the stats of weapons have various random elements to them.)
Some of my favorites are:
-Dynasty Warriors 5 (PS2) (Any odd numbered Dynasty warriors with the exception of DW1 are good in my opinion. Haven't played 6. This one was my favorite so far.)
-Samurai Warriors 2 (PS2) (Basically Japanese history Dynasty Warriors. Add in the Xtreme legends expansion for massive damage.)
-Warriors Orochi 2 (PS2) (Dynasty Warriors universe + Samurai Warriors Universe = Big ol' fustercluck of awesome against the might of the Serpent King: Orochi!)
You can get some of the more recent ones on next-gen consoles. Like Dynasty Warriors 6 (Never played it.), the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam which is based on the Gundam series, Samurai Warriors 3 on the Wii (Not out yet, but pretty soon you lucky arse Wii owners. >:C ), and eventually we'll have North Star Warriors, Hokuto no Ken making-people-explode punching awesome. Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce (PSP, PS3) if you want your Chinese history with the ability to go SUPER SAIYAN in it.
Alternatively, you can have beat-em-up crossed with Romance of the Three Kingdoms-esque strategy with the 'Empires' versions of various games. Don't have too much experience with them, but quite a lot of DW fans are VERY fond of them.
I'll admit, the series is not without flaws and may not be for everyone. But for me it's a guilty pleasure, button mashing with rudimentary strategy thrown in. You can find most of the PS2 ones for pretty cheap to see if you like it (I'd suggest my favorites to start.), otherwise a lot of the newer stuff sans Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 are pretty dated at this point and might be fairly cheaper now a days.

Actually, go buy Yakuza 3. Lord knows that game could use some sales no thanks to Sega's ATROCIOUS marketing for it. >=\
Seriously, released the same day as Final Fantasy 13, one of the worst cover arts EVER (Seriously, wikipedia that shit, Kiryu has an ESRB soul-patch...) and no one knows that the HELL the Yakuza series is. (It's an RPG brawler, NOT a GTA clone.)
Sooo... Yeah, go and buy it.

Have your friends buy it too. I want Yakuza: Kenzan and Yakuza 4 to get brought over here as well. =\

That...actually looks like a lot of fun. Would I have to play the first ones to not be lost in the story?
As for Dynasty Warriors, I'll admit I haven't played them, but I did play Kessen 2, and some of the gameplay in that looked similar to Dynasty Warriors...which wasn't fun. They could be completely different beasts though, I'll keep a lookout for one of them in a bargain bin. Thanks for the ideas so far guys, especially Dora Goes to School :v:.
I dunno if Batman: Arkham Asylum would be classified a beat 'em up. but it's pretty good.
Marvel Nemesis

Player vs Player/NPC may not be "beat em up", but the SP storyline sure is.

Yakuza 3 recaps the first 2 games nicely. If you wanna track down 2, it's not hard. Yakuza 1 is pretty hard to track down but it's not worth it, it's not as good as 2 anyway. Yakuza is one of those games that's REALLY good, and wildly popular in Japan... But a victim of Sega America's absolute stupidity.
Dynasty Warriors has zilch t'do with Kessen game-play wise, so no worries there. Like I said, most of the PS2 ones are on the cheap, so finding an odd numbered Dynasty Warriors (4 is slower paced, 6 had a revamp but they got a bit lazy doing it.) or Samurai Warriors 2 is easy at a Gamestop or something for chump change.
Heck, you can even get some Dynasty Warriors on PC.
I'd also recommend Bayonetta. VERY over-looked... People think it's a Devil May Cry knock-off... The thing is it is leaps and bounds better (Considering it's made by the guy that originally made Devil May Cry 1, Hideki Kamiya... Whose track record includes Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and Resident Evil 2.). Pick it up on 360 if you have a choice, PS3 version is only slightly inferior.
The game play is the draw here. Remember that before you judge. ;) Freedom of combat creativity is very prevalent in Bayonetta

Double Dragon It was hell of fun with a friend.
Added a bit of more fun when I played with this song on.

Double Dragon
CASTLE CRASHERS! If you have an Xbox 360 and LIVE.
But it if you have a PS2 or a Wii, I can recommend The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. It's a cartoon based game but it's fun. And yes, it's a Beat-'Em-Up.
Double Dragon WAS fun, Bayonetta doesn't really look like it would keep my attention, and Castle Crashers actually does look like it would be some old-school style fun with a friend...I doubt any of my XBOX live buddies would be up for it though. I just got my last (major) student loan paid off so I will be getting a PS3 and I will have to check out Yakuza. Thanks for all the varied ideas people, you've opened me up to several possibilities. Keep 'em coming if you can.
The original Tekkens. The newer ones are okay, but they get really obnoxious.
The Watchmen episodes aren't terrible.
I've played the Tekkens, and while they are fun they're not quite what I'm looking for at the moment. I want games where you have to fight your way through minions to a boss or bosses with martial arts (or possibly weapons). Kind of like the Tekken Force mini games only...better. And what do you mean by the Watchmen episodes?
