Hi guys
after over a year of this problem i thought i would finally post it for you guys to muse over as its driving me up the fucking wall.
This has happened on 2 different OS's and 2 different keyboards, the first OS was xp and now its win 7 ultimate.
It only seems to happen in game, I'll be happily playing a game and i suddenly hear a small beep, like a system beep in the speakers. Sometimes it will stop certain keys working on the keyboard, sometimes not. When I return to windows CAPS lock is on despite the light being turned off, if I activate caps lock it writes in lower case, not only that but if I click on links it'll open a new window instead of it opening in the same browser window. Also clicking anywhere on a web page or on the desktop will highligh everything up to the point i clicked.
before the obvious answers I dont have sticky keys, toggle keys or any of the other keyboard options turned on. which makes it all the more mysterious. It seems to dissapear with a reboot.
does anyone have any ideas?, this has been bothering me for the last year or so, and like I said no keyboard options on, tried 2 different operating systems and keyboards. If it helps I use the arrow keys for movement and the surrounding keys; shift, @, ctrl etc etc.
The beep sounds like what happens when a keyboard can only have so many buttons pressed at the same time... I forget what its called though.
I know what your saying but Why would that make all the other things happen, inversed caps lock, weird mouse highlighting and links opening in new windows.
Sounds like the keyboard thinks shift is being held down.
I think this is a problem in which a key has tricked itself or HAS been tricked to stay on all the time. So I assume control, shift, or alt is on constantly. So I'd go through and press literally every single button until it stops doing whatever it is doing.
Basically it is a bug where it sticky-keys without your consent. If this continues you may need a new keyboard.
problem is ive tried 2 different keyboards and the same thing happens, sticky keys option is off, its so weird.
Well if it's not a problem with the OS and not a problem with the keyboard, then the only thing I can think of is maybe the motherboard, although I have no idea how likely that would be (if possible).
Probably the motherboard, but if your really lucky it may be a fixable problem with the port itself.
care to elaborate?
Faulty motherboard or USB port. If you've got another USB port, try plugging your keyboard into that and seeing if the problem still happens. If it does, try replacing the motherboard (if you've got a compatible spare lying around somewhere). Otherwise you could shell out money for a new motherboard/computer, but that's obviously more expensive.
its not usb its ps/2 port, maybe thats the prob?
unlikely. see if you can find a PS2>USB adapter.
