why are microsoft so dumb when it comes to cancelling an XBL account?

after realising how much money i was wasting by spending fiver after fiver each month on a month's subscription, i thought it would be high time to buy a year's worth so i don't have to bother thinking about it. The problem is, Microsoft are dumb as fuck with their "we want to make it near enough impossible to disable your gold account".

there isn't even an option to change the automatic renewal like it said on the support page, and I really cannot be bothered to phone them up and probably just get the same result because the person on the other end of the phone is dumb.
help would be appreciated
Hmm, try "Manage Payment Options"
shit, i just assumed that it would have the same outcome as what that option had on my xbox, but i just removed my credit card. i hope that works and ty for help

solution i just thought up of: buy a year's worth from ebay, click redeem code, done

They obviously make it hard so the dumb and lazy keep paying them even though they otherwise wouldn't.

it doesnt matter im unsubscribing right now but im having the same problem as you. i figured out how to do it last time but it took me like an hour
You NEED to call them to disable your membership.

my account -> membership level
then there should be a box that says
Automatic Renewal: ON
click the 'on' and scroll down to the box and check 'OFF'
that's how i did it last time but apparently you cant in the uk anymore.

you dont need it. i phoned them and told them my gamertag, full name and address and they got it done
The other way is redeeming a timecard thingy. Of course that just plays into their hands though.

Change your cards end date to this/next month like I did. You have to phone them up otherwise. I was annoyed that it wouldn't work just from that site.

Also, could you possibly get yourself banned just for a bit on purpose? I am not much help as I have had LOADS of problems with Microsoft and their gay shit. Once you get out of a problem like this, just remember:
NEVER TRUST MICROSOFT!! They scam and cheat their way into your wallet!
Oh and turn off Auto Renewal? Get a twelve month and forget about it, like I did, next time. Seriously.
I tried for over 4 months to cancel my membership. I wasted nearly 100 bucks on that shit. I played like 3 times. I would call so much to try and cancel, but they kept pushing me around the system. I did eventually get it done though.
I canceled my credit card.
Just used one of those 30 days gold membership cards, that way you'll stop paying.
