The Mata Nui Online Game
Is what the abbreviation MNOLG stands for (I prefer just MNOG). It's an old game, made somewhere around 2001. It only had two years big of a life span, as LEGO soon took it down in 2003 due to it not being popular enough. Those who played it, loved it, those who didn't probably never saw it. It was put for a download in 2009 on the official Bionicle site later on. It disappeared around 2010, but people managed to download it and put it on their own sites.
The Plot
The plot involves a Matoran, a resident of the island Mata Nui. The Matoran's name is Takua, and he is assigned as a chronicler of the island. His job is to go around Mata Nui and record all kinds of historic events. You start the game on a beach, where you see an open landing pod. The Toas, legendary heroes have arrived on Mata Nui to prevent great evil from destroying it and ruling it with a despotic grip. You work amongst all 6 clans of Mata Nui. These are formed of a group of Matorans and a Turaga, the chief of each village. The Toas are the protectors of these villages, and each village has their own element they cherish. So, as Takua, you go around each village. Each location has it's own problems, usually the wildlife called Rahi acting up and wreaking havoc or a disease running through the town. Either way, you have to investigate and help the towns. When you do, you start to see hints about something greater happening. The Toas are also concerned, and you go on an epic journey of helping the Toas yourself. The Turaga assist you in your quest and have a lot of information.
The Towns
Onu-Koro is an underground village that has black Matorans and dig precious minerals. They cherish the Earth. Their Toa is Onua.
Po-Koro is a desert village that loves carving and building things from stone. They cherish stone, and their Toa is Pohatu.
Ga-Koro is a village built on a water body. They love fishing and water. Their Toa is Gali, the only female Toa.
Ta-Koro has a furious tribe of Matorans. They have a fortress in the midst of lava, and they love surfing on magma currents. They cherish fire, and their Toa is Tahu, the oldest Toa.
Le-Koro is the tribe that lives on treetops. They have tamed bird-like creatures for flying and they love the skies and the jungle. Their Toa is Lewa.
Ko-Koro is on the foot of a huge mountain called Kini-Nui. It is a huge, calm city made of ice. The Matorans are quiet and wise, and they cherish the element of snow and ice. Their Toa is Kopaka, the loner of the Toa group.
My Thoughts
Now, the game itself is in my eyes already a classic. It's a short-lived but awesome experience, and the artwork really contributes to the gameplay. It's a bit more like an interactive movie at times, and sometimes it's a turn-based battle. Either way, i suggest you try it out, or if you already have played it, please tell how you felt about it the first time you plowed through this. This is oriented towards the kids when they made it, but i still like it. What i most like about it today is the music. They just don't make stuff like this anymore. I wish Hanz Zimmer would take some example of this. Good example of the great music right here, and the quality is obviously low as it's from a 2001 primitive online game, not to mention it was ripped from the game itself which lowers the quality even more.

Oh man, I remember playing this game so many moons ago.
It's so good.
HOLY FUCK DICKS I FUCKING LOVED THIS GAAAAAAAAAAAAAME
Ahem. Somehow it really captured my imagination, I only got as far as kicking rocks at a scorpion with the rock Bionicle. I'll download it and give it a shot.
Fuck yes, Bionicle all up in Facepunch now.

Protip: Get the edge ones first, then charge your kick and try to get the middle ones when the Nui-Jaga is further away from them. Simple, eh?
They made a second one, didn't they?
Anyone remember Lego Backlot? Or mother fuckin Lego StormRunner?
what I want to see is a download for the old mindstorms robotic game, involving crashing on another planet or something like that, but this was a great game
Here are the badasses who made these games.
Their contact info is there too. We should email them too bring back these amazing games.
HHHNNNGGGHHH
Sorry, I just nostalgia'd all over my computer screen. Anyone other than me set this game so they can launch it directly from Steam? I absolutely loved the music and ambiance in this game when I played it all the way back in 2001.
EDIT: Here's the music that plays during the final battle cutscene.

I remember Backlot, but not Stormrunner. I never was interested in Mindstorms, either.
And there is no real working version of MNOLG II, only a crack that starts you with 999 of each item, and that ruins the fun.
Have some more awesome music from that Bohrok-Kal web-series:

Did i just hear some Half-Life 2 in there?
JESUS MOTHERFUCKING CHRIST
PS. TRY NOT TO DERAIL THE THREAD INTO DISCUSSION ABOUT TEMPLAR, CREATE YOUR OWN THREADS FOR THAT. THIS IS JUST FOR THE MNOLG OKAY THANK YOU BYE

Robohunter: Spy city was fucking badass
although I remember an advance wars-esque lego game from 2003-2005 which was fucking badass but I can't find it anywhere anymore
Also, i'm almost done with an unofficial MNOG OST .rar file. I'll upload it in Megaupload and then post it in the OP.
The OP didn't really talk about the gameplay or even give us any videos of it in action or any screenshots so here's a Let's Play.

Looks like it's pretty much just an online point and click adventure game.
I always chuckled at "Toa" as it means toilet in swedish :v:
Nostalgia'd hard

The reason i didn't talk about the gamelay too much is because i want people to try it out yourselves.
It's mainly point a click but it also has turn-based battles and a ton of cutscenes. The best point and click game i've played.
LEGO made a sequel, but it was bugged up the ass, here's a fixed offline one:

Yeah, but it starts you somewhere in the midst of the game with all items yanked at 999x
This game along with its sequel is extremely atmospheric, much more than most of serious retail products.
Added the soundtrack of the first online game into the OP. Check it out, not all too bad, ambient tracks bring a ton of atmosphere along with some action songs thrown in as well.
while on the topic of super old lego games, can someone link me to lego backlot? that game was awesome.
while on the topic of super old lego games, can someone link me to lego backlot? that game was awesome.
Non-existant as far as i know, try checking BioGames.
Also, that's not the topic. The topic is MNOG.
Nostalgia up the ass, man
This game is up there with the nostalgic classics, not as high as Lego Island but it's still there.
Thanks for getting this out, it was so awesome back then !
Bionicle was the worst thing to happen to Lego since Megabloks.

Building bionicles was cool...
I'm finally going to play this game and actually understand what happens (didn't know a word of english back when it was online)

I do agree.
Gotta ask, though, what was the most difficult part to you guys?
I think for me was [sp]defending of Kini-Nui.[/sp] I mean, i failed so many times when i had to remember which Matoran was strong against which Rahi and....fuck.
Also, the ending climax was epic.

Building them was fun up to the Rakshi, but then it got REALLY boring and generic. I liked the Bohrok and shit when they still had gimmicks and you really needed that manual, otherwise you had no idea how to build it. I once tried my hand at those newer ones and i could just use logic to build it, everything was so simplified and obvious. I miss the Mata, Nuva, Bohrok and -Kal, and dem Matorans, Turagas etc.
Turly the best toys are the most simple.
A Dutchman creates some plastic blocks that clip together and it captures our minds for endless hours with us making houses, forts guns spaceships, cars, mechs and so on.
And then Lego technic gave us the bionicles, possible the one thing i remember best about my childhood.
I would always take Gali, Kopaka an Lewa and their coutnerparts in future series.
My brother would take Tahu, Onua and Pohatu and their counterparts.
Funfact Bionicle is based on New-Zealand legends almost exactly.
At least the first generation is.
We all loved lego...
