Right so I know this is MASSIVE speculation but has there actually been any real evidence saying that the next game in the series will be a new episode? I mean, we've gona quite a long time now without any information regarding EP3 pretty much, I do remember something about it being the last game in that storyline (Gordon Freeman's story) but not the end of the franchise so what better way than to end his story than in an epic, brand new, game? Kindof like ending the SG-1 series with a movie!
I dunno, might just be wishful thinking...
We'll just have to wait and see.
Isnt it HL2 EP 3 then its Half Life 3?
A lot of people say that the episodes are half life 3, and valve stated that a while ago too.
But in my opinion that is stupid because it still is called half life 2 episode 1/2/3 and not half life 3 episode 1/2/3 and the episodes are using the story that was origionally in half life 2 but was cut.
Its not half life 3 unless it is called half life 3 in my opinion.

No, the episodes together WERE going to be Half-Life 3, but VALVe said somewhere that they are not,
All stuff in the episodes were already going to be in Half-Life 2, but they were cut out.
You can still see some stuff that are in episodes in the leak.

Threads like this just end up in a ridiculous fight between people who think other people think the next game will be called Half-Life 4 when in fact no one's saying that, and people who think there will be no more HL after Episode Three.

Of course it was not used completely, but they are going into a similar direction and use the same story arc with the combine and all. They are also going too the arctic.

I think they'll still call it Half-Life 2:Episode 3, that's been it's name for too long. Changing it would just cause confusion.

The HL2 episodes were originally supposed to be Half-life 3: Episode X. But when the title Half-life 2: Episode 1 was announced it just sort of stuck with the community.
The Half life 2 episodes are the telling of Half-Life 3 broken into segments so it does not take six years to release it.
I came into this thread and rated dumb then posted this post :)
They intended on calling it HL3: EP1, EP2 and EP3, but some shit happened.
So, it is kinda HL3, but in a way, still HL2
In my opinion it is still half life 2 no matter what they say, because it is still the same story arc.
Think about the difference from the story in hl1 and the story in hl2, the story in hl3 should not have combines.

Antlion Cave, Borealis, I suppose EP1 and parts of EP2, new enemies and NPC's.
They'll probably release some pack with all the episodes and call it half life 3, but otherwise it's EP1,EP2, and EP3.
It's wishful thinking. There's a reason they've called it an Episodic [i]Trilogy[/i]
