Im thinking about getting CoD 4 for PC (loved it on my xbox), but do they still got servers (and I mean real servers, unless the modded servers are cool) or a strong community?
Yes, very active. Some minor stuff though:
-We don't have the cool killcams with grenades
-We have the variety map pack for free
-Disable steam overlay for the multiplayer portion, it kicks you for it since PB thinks it's a hack or something/

I hope you like hardcore because there aren't many non-hardcore servers anymore.
Last I played was like two years ago, I doubt there's more then 5 populated ones now.
There's a lot of core servers, but usually the popular modes like FFA, TDM, SND.
It's sad when such a great game loses most of the population. But it's the only Call of Duty game I can convince my friends to play!
I can't speak for other communities but the Australian CoD4 community is very small. Everyone plays TDM, promod or Hardcore S&D. Even then there were only like 5-10 servers, tops. Forget about the other modes like Domination or HQ.
No one even plays vanilla S&D anymore.

In my opinion CoD4 isn't worth picking up unless it's under $20.
