why is it that all the people behind speedruns have absolutely retarded usernames

Cause they're l33t g4m3r5
I think speedruns are more interesting when they don't glitch out of the map
Why glitch the game when you can stay in the boundaries.
I never liked speedruns personally..

Speedruns are cool when people really think outside the box within the rules of the game to solve a puzzle quickly.
This is just dumb, there's nothing 'pro' about not playing the game.

If I ever become good at video games I'm going to stay with the name "Cheesesteak."
I've also noticed that sometimes speed runs are done on the Hardest or almost Hardest difficulty, at least with Doom or Halo.
Wouldn't it be faster if you didn't have enemies that were really strong in segments where you can't skip killing them?

I want to see the fastest speed run without using out of level glitches. I don't mind putting a portal under a door or breaking momentum. But no glitching out of levels by using saves glitches and what not.
I'm dizzy :(
EDIT: This inspired me to do my own (mostly fair) speedrun of Portal. I did it in about a hour. Beat my own time by 30 minutes!
As one of the runners of the run, I figured I would add a bit more information here.
The purpose of this run was to beat the previous world record of 9:25 in the "Segmented, Out of Bounds" category. For those of you who enjoy runs that do not glitch out of bounds, there are TONS of runs in the "in-bounds" category for your viewing pleasure on youtube. However, since the "Segmented, Out of Bounds" category is the one that beats the game the fastest, it is generally the one that is considered THE world record for the game, and therefore carries the most prestige along with it. I can understand not wanting to see large skip glitches, but please understand that using those large skip glitches was the entire point of this run.

Edit: Also, Moupi is a dumb name too. =P
He's also a furry.
imagine all the hours wasted practicing doing this just for 8 minutes of fame.

I'm happy to say that I enjoyed all the time I spent doing this, as well as the rest of the 600+ hours I've spent on the portal games.

Explanations aren't all that helpful, FP tends to dislike speedruns in general. Most threads tend to turn into "he did this and that's unfair" or "it's not a speedrun if it isn't done in one sitting".

Pretty sure there are very few runners that do this for the "fame"...
My best Portal 1 "speedrun" took 92 minutes. Credits included.

I think it's totally fine really. Sometimes I see things that truly amaze me and I find myself wondering "How the hell did they work THAT out?!". Take the Mario 64 speed run for instance... That crazy backwards jumping/sliding/skidding thing that can force you through the corners of walls and doors and shit. Insanely good.
6:07 looked like noclip...
My best speedrun time is about 65 mins including the credits :v:

Actually, that's a very obscure glitch that anyone can do. If you set up our first two portals like we did and "bump" yourself with the camera, you'll sometimes appear in the room in a "save glitch" state, which allows us to walk through walls and most objects. Saving while in this state fixes it a bit, and makes it so that when we touch objects, we don't walk through them but instead give them massive amounts of energy (no clue why). So what we do is slam the chair into the wall and jump against it, causing it to launch us through the walls (we're still semi-save glitched, so the walls aren't solid to us) and straight into the camera in the next room over, which gives us even more acceleration directly into the elevator. We don't fall through the elevator because it's considered an entity/object in the game files, so we can just stand on it easily. However, I'm still save glitched here, because if you notice while the elevator is rising, our crosshair in the middle of the screen lights up indicating that we can shoot a portal. If I were to shoot a portal here, we'd fall through the elevator floor and into the abyss =P
The ending of that speedrun is absolutely brilliant, even artistic.
6:45 to 7:20... What the shit was just happening?
Gotta love that infinite movement speed bug.
They fixed it in HL2 but not in portal, weird.
The gun keeps changing, does that mean this is like he does one part at a time? I don't know much about speed running but that doesn't sound very pro
[editline]22nd July 2012[/editline]
I see it's more than one person, now I really don't see why that is pro.

Combining various speedrunners' demos is nothing new. You'll see the same thing if you watch other games' speedruns, such as Quake 1.

It still baffles me how you have over 150 hours in Portal, over 250 hours in Half-Life 2, and almost 1000 hours on Portal 2.

Blame it on being bored a lot and so replaying the games over and over again :v:

The bugs we use for quick movement are ABH, or accelerated back hopping, and AFH, or accelerated forward hopping. Both work on all current "orange box" engine, single-player games, including half life 2 and all the episodes.

I have 600-some hours in Portal
But then again, most of that was while mapping and sometimes accidentally leaving the game on overnight to compile a map.
And I can do Portal 1, minimal glitches, in around 40 minutes.
I beat portal in 14 minutes, in one sitting. That's all I've played, actually.
my internet cut out for 99% of the playing, but came back on in time for the heartbreaker achievement haha
