• Handhelds: Which should I get?

So yeah, handhelds. I havent has one since the original gameboy (pokemon red, so awesome), so I dont know anything about the current handheld market. I am basically looking for a handheld with decent games and such. I would of instantly gone for the DS, since it seems like a super upgraded gameboy, but there is so much talk over these things I dont know. So, give me your honest oppinions: what is the best in the lines of game selection, graphics, lifespan (before breaking) and other features. If you concider yourself a fanboy, or have been called a fanboy, I would like it if you did not post. Adults are talking.
PSP. Has a bunch of features, a lot of games, graphics are ok, though it can break easy or get problems if you treat it bad
Really now, I would be putting it under heavy use, since I am gonna be traveling alot soon, and if the whole thing explodes while I am jumping on/shooting the last boss I would be pissed. What about the DS and any other handhelds I cant remember. Anyone got experience with them?
The DS is pretty good because it's cheap. Also scribblenauts
The DS has the best game library of any Nintendo console, ever, in my opinion. I can name at least 20 games off-hand that are amazing. Also, DSiware. Not too good yet, but it shows lots of promise.
Well, I have heard simmilar from my friends, other forums and such. I think I will go with the DS. What games are good? I know that the usual Nintendo franchises like Mario-Kart and Zelda will be good, but what else?
If you want games: DS If you want etcetera: PSP
I've not tried a PSP but the DS is good if you ask me. The stylus helps to make some interesting control styles, for example the stylus is used to aim and select weapons in Metroid Prime Hunters and makes a surprisingly natural-feeling FPS.

Layton, Phoenix wright, scribblenauts, just off the top of my head. That's probably about 100 hours of highly enjoyable gameplay right there.
Porn Station Portable :v: But seriously, I haven't tried a DS, but there seems to be some cool games on it. I only have a PSP and have used it for music exclusively because I'm not going to buy another MP3 player
Get a good Netbook. One with Nvidia's Ion.

Also, there's: Retro Game Challenge (my favorite), The Dark Spire and the Etrian Odyssey Series (Wizrdry-style roleplaying), Elite Beat Agents, N+, The Layton Series, The Ace Attorney Series, the Rune Factory Series (Harvest Moon plus Action RPG), The Mario & Luigi RPG series, Henry Hatsworth (Tetris Attack plus Mega Man with giant steampunk mechs activated by drinking tea...), Dementium (sort of Silent Hill), Moon (sort of Metroid), the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series (basically Diablo clones), and... shall I go on? What genres are you looking for? I can give more suggestions if you narrow it down a little.
I like the PSP cause it also is a PS1 emulator and has porn and really good games. Also Monster Hunter
I really hate the DS for multiple reasons, but I love the PSP, one, because: you can put porn on it you can put porn on it you can play decent games you can put porn on it you can put... wait. i do like the pictochat and shit on it though, but the games (most of them) are terrible kids games. are there any DS games that are rated M?
I own a DS and a PSP. My DS is a dust collector. Get a PSP, get custom firmware on it. And it won't break if you keep it in a safe place. I've got a hard brief case style case for mine, so its pretty much invincible. Also, you can probably get a PSP 1000-3000 pretty cheap with the go out now.
DS has more great games. PSP has less shitty ones. PSPgo looks pretty meh, But the DSi Is really doing well. I would see about no reason to get a PSP.
DS is the best trust me has the best games
PSP has shit games but you can always play PS1 games on it.
I've owned both. If you want just games, get a DS. It's got a good game library, although a lot of them are kids games/puzzle games. If you want games, movies and music along with an internet browser, get a PSP. The people claiming there are only a few good games for it are forgetting how easy it is to soft-mod it. Once you softmod it, you can use a huge library of homebrew games, apps and emulators. You can even watch videos on popular websites like YouTube. Just my opinion, but I think the PSP is a lot better than the DS. And their price is going down now with the release of the PSP Go!

No homebrew support:(

But you can also replace the LCD.
Ive owned both a DS and a PSP and I can honestly say I enjoyed my PSP way more. DS never had enough serious games that kept me glued. PSP -Good entertainment for large amounts of time -Easily modifiable -More Home brew apps -Can Emulate PS1 titles downloaded off of PSN (or converted with 3rd party apps and a softmod PSP) -Constantly updated with new cool features with firmware updates DS -Good for killing time or dicking around for about 10-20 minutes -Insane battery life -R4/Flashcart = every game and super easy soft mod easy -Ability to play versus and shit with pals who don't own the same game (meaning if your pal don't have Tetris he can interface his DS with yours and download a stripped version of the game for multiplayer) Anyway its pretty much worth getting a PSP for home brew and I just use it as a portable PS1 Its too bad my original Fat PSP broke horrifyingly beyond repair. I plan on buying a new one in a few weeks when my sweet ol' lawsuit money from a car accident comes in which will be a month yet They just better make the PSP go easily soft moddable since that's all I would use it for

Get a used PSP-1000 with firmware 5.03 or lower, install 5.00M33. Enjoy homebrew. Buy a used DS Phat/Lite and a AceKard 2.1 Enjoy homebrew. Having both handhelds bust open to do whatever you want with them is the way forward. And both of them used will cost about the same as one new probally. Also, all this shit your hearing about the PSP having shit games is a lie. There are some amazing games, like Monster Hunter, God Of War, Armoured Core, Me & My Katamari, Parappa The Rapper and with custom firmware PS1 games, Megadrive/Genesis games, NES games, SNES games, Gameboy games, GBA games... You can do alot more with a PSP than a DS. Coming from a guy who has both its a tough choice between the 2, but i guarantee no game on the DS is as addictive as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Also scribblenauts is most overrated.
Has enough power to emulate the Dreamcast. :D
