You control a fictional character described by race, class, attributes, skills, and equipment. This fictional character is trying to achieve a specific goal (see below) and succeed in a difficult quest. To fulfill the quest, you have to explore previously undiscovered tunnels and dungeons, fight hideous monsters, uncover long forgotten secrets, and find treasures of all kind. So it's basically Crawl Soup but with a "storyline"?
Sure, if thats what you wanna call it.
How the hell do you play this?
Oh man, I still play ADOM every now and then. I'm pretty terrible though, usually die at about level 10 or so. Also, to any new guys, beware of Hydra when you start, they can be found in the swamps south-west of the first town.
Same ASCII style as Dwarf Fortress, from the looks. Will have to give it a try.
I love ADOM, even if I always end up slaughtered by a group of barbarians at, like, level 2 anyways. :v:
Got to the world map, stepped 1 tile towards the road, got ambushed by bandits, didn't want to give them my monies and proceeded to attack them. To be killed myself.
I like how people have to just go and compare a roguelike with another roguelike. Why not just say "Oh hey, it's a roguelike" instead of "oh hey, it looks like this one other roguelike" Well duh it does.
If you're referring to Venn, the ASCII style is way different.
If you're referring to Venn, the ASCII style is way different.
Which was exactly his point. Adom is vastly different to Stone Soup and Dwarf Fortress. All that they have in common are ASCII graphics and they are roguelikes(Adventure mode in DF).
"Oh look, the grass is green like in dwarf fortress, that makes it a ripoff." 'Cmon, you can't judge a book by it's cover.
It's a very nice roguelike, pretty hard but easier than IVAN and Nethack.
Same ASCII style as Dwarf Fortress, from the looks. Will have to give it a try.
DF doesn't even use real ASCII.
First Roguelike I ever played, so many, many years ago. Didn't understand it a bit and dismissed it very quickly. ;(
