Hey, I just bought this (50% off on steam :D) and does anyone have any tips? I'm not sure exactly what to do? Also just general talk :D.
DO NOT EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER FUCK WITH DREADNOUGHTS. Seriously. Don't. Also, just because a ship is big, doesn't mean it's good. Don't buy a carrier and expect it to be a combat god.
http://x.wikia.com/wiki/X3:_Reunion The game is bat shit confusing when you start, but if you go through the campaign you should be ok, the depth in this game is beyond your average game so beware, takes a good 15 hours to get a good grip on the game.
Ya, I noticed :S I've played eve so I have a basic grasping on whats happening :P I've just docked at my first station, re-evaluated and closed to game and started to read the manual :P Thanks for the wiki btw. Hoping I might be able to get a trade route going, speed up time then buy another ship for fun :D. EDIT:Do you know how to enable the dual screen thing? I heard there there was, atleast in X2...
Ah... brings back memories.... Didn't play it for ages, but on X2, you could for example select a twoer, and on it's commands there is one that gives a screen on it's own... Seriously gotta get into X someday too.
I do that, I bought myself a larger ship with the money I've made trading and now I use my old one to explore sectors before I go there with by bigger, slower one. It's a slow start but it gets much more fun when you got more ships :). Totally should get back into it! Right now, steam 50% off X3:Gold which is great. Buy it like 15$ or something for 2 endless games of awesome :D
I remember getting a carrier and like 30 small ships (forgot their name). I thought I would pwn everything till some damn kzaak or whatever the alien's name is spawned right in front and gunned us down... Damn, nostalgia... lol
I got the gold pack its unintuitive and horrifically deep but still compelling I need a free day to work the whole thing out
:S I've spent the past 4 and half hours playing and I barely understand... I just screwed over my half decent play by buying the wrong type of cargo... I then had like 3000 dollars and some useless cargo. So I've quit and I'm now on Garry's Mod. :D Remember... Losing is fun!
I've been playing X3:reunion for the last few days, and I'm at the point now where I own a few stations and have a bit of cash. It's one of those games that is harder in the beginning, it's certainly a lot easier if you choose the starting option that gives you 100000 credits as well as a hauler in addition to the buster. Anyway, the best way to make money in the beginning is capturing pirate ships. Not that easy to do with the buster as you have to watch out for the pirate novas, but once you've captured a falcon for example it gets easier. Game can be frustrating at times and the story missions are pretty crap, but it's rewarding if you stick it out for the first few hours.
Anyone have a nice start-up guide? Also, somewhat unrelated, but it annoys me that when selecting a save it shows how much time you would have played if you did not use the speed-enhancing feature (forgot what it is called). I don't care what I would have played, I care what I did play.
Arg, I hate how ships control in this game. I'm so used to the arcade-style of Freelancer. Does a joystick help at all?
Yeah a Joystick does help, a lot... I can't stand Mouse Controls in X3 because it feels much more like a sim than Freelancer did, and as such, a Mouse isn't going to cut it Although in Terran Conflict, the mouse controls are much better

I then started a war which lasted 5 seconds when the Argon Titans came in unleashing hell. Their ships look like constant firing but my large ship didn't seem to do much at all. My shields, although maxed were drained nearly instantly while their Titans laughed at my puny lasers. I even had 10 fighters set to protect the carrier but I guess they don't know the meaning of it. lol
Here's a tip, never ever ever jump into Kha'ak Territory unless you have like 20 destroyers, carriers and dreds, seriously. Even then you're still gonna lose a lot.

the Kha'ak invaded argon prime in my game and took out a station and all of the larger argon ships except argon one.
There are Kha'ak sectors? I haven't really progressed much in the game, but I am using the "Discoverer" game type because I didn't find the story to be that fun.
Yes, Kha'ak sectors do exist. They aren't connected in any way to the original X universe by gates and you need to find them by way of the BBS if I recall correctly, then use a jump-drive to access them. MAKE SURE TO HAVE ENOUGH JUMP ENERGY TO GET BACK! The last thing you want is to be stranded in Kha'ak space if you're playing a DiD game (although why you're going into a Kha'ak sector during a DiD is beyond me). Anyway, trading is easily the fastest way to make money in Reunion. Terran Conflict has plenty of missions to whet any combat-junkie's appetite, but making blood money in Reunion is far more difficult. Silicon is very high-profit, but difficult to trade. Meatsteaks are decent, as are Energy Cells. Don't ignore the lesser value wares - money is money, trade anything and everything. You have no reason not to.
Space Fuel trading in Heron's Nebula is very nice.
Then there's good old Space Fuel (alcohol) smuggling in Heron's Nebula too.
Ha, ninja'd.
I swear that said something different when i posted.
maybe this map will be of help, iirc it covers all 3 versions so some sectors might not be in the one your playing http://www.pagemark.nl/x3activemap/
I bought this game a few months ago, and I still haven't found time to figure it out. Seems pretty damned cool though.
You guys are making me want to play this game again, but each time I do I end up cheating because I don't like spending 5 hours going back and forth getting my money up. I never know what to do either, I don't know how to win a dog fight and I most certainly can't figure out how to steal other ships.
Winning dog fight's aren't terribly hard, just observe a couple simple rules: When fighting an M5 or M4, stay on their tail, don't let them point at you When fighting an M3, run (unless you're in one yourself, in which case it all comes down to tanking the other guy's rear turret).
The whole getting out of your ship to capture other ship thing doesn't really make much sense. First time I did it I accidentally bumped into the other ship and managed to kill myself. Anyway, when the other pilot gives up his ship you need to get very close, around 30m. Eject from your own ship, target the ship you want to capture and choose "claim" in the target menu. Now get back in your own ship and send the captured ship to the nearest shipyard. Unless you are close to the core sectors I'd recommend following it as there is a relatively large chance it will get taken out by pirates on the way if it has to pass through unsafe sectors. When it comes to dogfights you have yo be quite careful in the beginning as the buster isn't much use against M3's. Avoid novas unless they are on their own. Generally it's a good idea to strafe in two directions at the same time to avoid getting hit, spinning (Q and E keys) is also quite useful for quickly changing direction or avoiding fire. If you have trouble finding a solitary nova to capture try capturing a falcon first, as it's a relatively good stepping stone that will make it easier for you to take on the better armed groups of pirates.
