So, I have $20 to spend this time, and I'm having a hard time trying to choose what game.
On one hand, STALKER SoC is cheap and offers a shit ton of gameplay, but Oblivion GOTY offers that and more. Honestly, the choices are killing me, and I don't know what to get.
What I'm trying to say is, which one will last me longer?
They're both great but I'd get Oblivion:GOTY
Staljker
i vote stalker
Oblivion is fucking fun as hell but I get bored real quick by it while STALKER holds my grasp, but each individual has his taste. Play a friends oblivion/stalker look up more info to help decide
Just to let you guys know, I prefer Vanilla gameplay over mods. Not saying I wouldn't play one, but the chance of me using one is pretty low.
I asked a few friends about STALKER and they said it's the best $20 they have ever spent. I don't have any friends who play Oblivion. :S
yes there are mods for stalker but not as many as oblivion
:wtc:
Oblivion has many mods.

Replace every mention of Spam for 5 mods for oblivion, then multiply by 100, then you have a quarter of the mods for Oblivion.
Still having a hard time deciding. S:
Oblivion will last longer and has a lot more mods, but STALKER is more fun and the bigger mods are a lot better.
Do you want a Post Apocalyptic World or do you want a fantasy world. Decide now.
Oblivion.
Thread title made me expect a thread wanting people to vote which was best.
In my opinion, Oblivion is significantly better.
Stalker due to oblivion being a major letdown for me because I was expecting morrowind 2.0, not morrowind dumbed down edition with extra awesomesause. If that makes any sense.
get 20 extra dollars and get call of pripyat
Both...Through I havn't tried stalker yet it looks like my Cup of tea...I mean it has a little of RPG elements..and choices in games always get me going in games
Having played Both Oblivion and Stalker I'd like to let you know:
If you are not going to mod STALKER, than It won't be as much fun for you as it was for many other people. Sure, beat it once vanilla then install mods. Vanilal itself is somewhat lackluster compared to what most people say about STALKER, but that's because they are probably playing with mods.
The atmosphere is top-notch. It has somewhat of a steep learning curve compared to other shooters, but once you get the hang of it you'll see it's pretty fair. Almost every death can be attributed to you fucking up.
The AI can sometimes bug out, but when it's working, and most of the time it is, it can make for some pretty entertaining combat.
Don't expect too many unique sidequests, most of the sidequests are KILL X, and they can be repeated every couple of in game days.
The series is composed of: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky (A prequel), and Call of Pripyat(Sequel to SoC).
Shadow of Chernobyl currently has the most mods, but Call of Pripyat is the most polished vanilla game (and it has unique sidequests). Most people would advise staying away from Clear Sky. On Steam, if you purchase one STALKER game, you can get CoP for $20.
Oblivion is for someone looking for a game with many more RPG elements, as STALKER has very few. Some of the sidequests are very fun. I am not a fan of the combat scheme. Taking on multiple enemies is often just a clusterfuck of mouse clicking. That said, I think the combat is much improved from Morrowind. There is a larger game world in Oblivion than in STALKER, and more places to explore, though most seem almost like they glued a bunch of prefab caves/dungeons together.
If you like Survival Shooters, get STALKER
If you like Expansive RPGs, get Oblivion.
No contest. Both are too different. But if I had to choose I'd choose STALKER.
Both games THRIVE off their excellent modding communities. Seriously, without mods both games are meerly shells of thier full potentual. You'll play them, notice a few basic interesting things here and there, a few bugs, and a several things that just are not right or play/look badly but you feel compelled to play because it's the kind of game that influences you to just act and do stuff in the world. In other words, interesting to play but not really in a substantial way.
With mods it transforms them into something that YOU want to play and have been wanting to play. If you don't want to spend the time to mod these games, I'd suggest looking to other games. STALKER and Oblivion are good yes, but they arn't great until they get modded. Oblivion has thousands of mods out there to do just about anything you want and fixes/enhances just about every aspect of the game. STALKER has several total conversions that really enhance the survival aspects of the game and visual ones too that really pull you in far more than the vanilla game does.
Oblivion has this mod:

Sorry.. I'm a huge STALKER fan, not exaggerating
But i'd have to say Oblivion.
my playtimes
oblivion:
500 hours
stalker:
50 hours
oblivion wins
They are both great games. You should get one, then try and get the other one later if you can.
If you're not gonna use mods with Oblivion, get S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Oblivion is kinda bad unmodded. Console UI, monster scaling, etc.

Depends if you would actually enjoy stalker. Just save up and get call of Pripyat. SHOC has some good mods but COP is more polished.
i say STALKER, it holds your attention, sure Oblivion is a masterpiece, but i would buy it if after STALKER. and STALKER got mods and guns (:downs:)
your choice mate
STALKER because Oblivions combat system is extremely boring (mods make the combat a bit better, but it still not good enough).
I love them both, but I played oblivion for a fuckload longer. So I'm gonna say Oblivion. Especially as its GOTY and the mods make it even better
Stalker is fuckin' awesome too, though .
Bit unfair on STALKER though, 'cause Oblivion is a huge rpg and will easily last you longer even without mods, but when you're finished with the main quest on Stalker you're pretty much done. Unless you want to role play and stretch the game out as long as possibly, but then you could just learn Ukranian and shove a Uranium rod down your pants, same thing .
