Its purpose is to remaster Sega's classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with high definition (HD) graphics and music, whilst at the same time precisely preserving the original gameplay (that continues to set quality standards to this day). S2HD will not be limited only to presenting a beautiful graphical and musical version of the original. New features that were not present in the original will also be made available, such as online multiplayer modes and extra levels. It's not really a re-imagining as much as the fan remix is, since S2HD is trying to be a close to Sonic 2 as possible, with some added zones, like Hidden Palace Zone, while still being a total visual and audio upgrade. [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] Also, I've tried out the techdemo for S2HD as well as the demo for SFR, and I'd say the physics in S2HD are more accurate to Sonic 2, while SFR doesn't have it quite right. Also I find that SFR doesn't run that well on my computer, and the background is too busy for my taste. So naturally S2HD is preferable, at least in my opinion.

This isnt the first Sonic 2 HD thing I've seen. Why does it get all the attention? Sonic 3+K should be getting the update.

And this is the one getting attention because it's having a release soon (This Saturday in fact, which will include Emerald Hill iirc). There is a Sonic 3 and Knuckles HD project as well, but it's not nearly as far along.

Could care less about this. If it was Sonic 3... now THAT would be awesome.

See Sega is it REALLY that hard? Also i remember reading the comic series sonic 3 and knuckles was based off. My it was more than 10 years ago.

Holy balls at the trailer. Also, an HD offering/remake of Sonic 3 & Knuckles would be nice, but i'll be damned if Sonic 2 doesn't get the proper justification it deserves. 'cause, you know, if it weren't for Sonic 2, there'd be no Sonic CD, Sonic 3, and beyond. And no, this does not count the 3D games.
