I've seen a lot of people saying "No, the achievements dont prove/show you're skilled" and other saying "Yes, they show that you are skillfull". Some achievements are really easy and you can get them by not even trying, while others are fucking hard and you could spend hours and hours of playing to get them. I believe that for some achievements you require a certain skill. Getting hard achievements gives you a rewarding feeling. Others just give up and join the other side, that believes that achievements dont prove anything and say that they are not interested in them.
I would like everyone who reads this thread to post his/hers opinion here.
What are you talking about?
I play games because I like the content, not a small pop-up.
I think achievements add fun to a game and that if you think you are skilled by getting one, you're a dumbass.
I'm talking about the PC achievements. I want to hear everyone's opinion about them

I think he's saying how people go batshit crazy on Xbox 360 for Achievements.

But there are little to no PC achievements.
AUTOMERGE
Steamworks achievements are really the only Pc achivements that are recorded and shown to all.
Achivements are for socially inept 12-year olds with no self-esteem
Maybe they should of had a get the most achievements and get a prize/box thing

Yeah, people do go crazy about those. There are tons of vids on how to cheat on those to get the points :|
Meh, Achivements make you play the game more so that when you sell it you get jack shit D:
SOME achievements are cool and stuff to strive for, but there is a fine line between going an extra mile to get an achievement and spending 10 hours running around the map to find 200 little items.

someone doesn't have any achievements (you can have some of mine)
My brother spent hours and hours running around aimlessly trying to find some stupid orb on Crackdown just to get 20 achievement points.
This is why achievements are bad.
They're only fun if you don't try to complete them.
Going "oh hey what do you know I got an award for that!"
Rather than "god damn I just spent three hours trying for one god damn achievement this game is no fun."
I like Achievements, they feel somewhat rewarding when you get them.
I got the acievment in assassins creed to kill 50 enemies in the first five minutes after the intro. Before I had even seen that many NPCs!
I was just running around the first city (the one with the Assassin's brotherhood place) finding flags and just generally getting used to the game when I fell through a well and out of the world. The achievement immediately pops up as I'm falling and then I'm just teleported to the start of the level.
No skill needed there.
But seriously, I think achievements add replay value for those interested in them, but unless the game is sandbox or particularly short, I never go back and get them.
Achievements are an easy and cheap way to add replayability and longevity to your game. They are essentially just rewards for those who play the game more. Like placebo food pellets for laboratory rats. Eventually, the entire idea of rewards that serve a sort of purpose is thrown out the window.
I hate myself because of achievements. I used to hate the idea of people playing games solely for achievement points and not just to play the game, but now i'm one of those people. I find myself getting games for XBox 360 instead of PC just for achievements.
I know i'm pathetic
Achievements are for fun, not for skill.
Achievements should be "Kill somebody from 50 metres with a grenade." or something more unique (well that was quite un-unique but you get my point) not "Kill X amount of Z"
I like the achievements, if they hadn't been in Assassin's Creed, I wouldn't have climbed up all the high points, and that was one hell of a ride.

As opposed to just sitting there twiddling their thumbs?
Well I think they're fun goals to strive toward, not a measure of skill.
"Kill X amount of Z"
Using Y, of course.

This, but no one actuallu enjoys those Vidmaster achievments for Halo 3.
Just like titles on facepunch, achievements don't do anything but make you feel good about yourself.

With the help of V.
I pretty much only do achivements because of the extra challenges.
