• Legs mod for l4d2

I know in l4d1 you can see your legs in first person, it's very immersing, and it makes you feel like a survivor, as opposed to floating arms with a gun. I also know there is a legs mod for Gmod, so I was wondering if there is a legs mod for L4D2.
No, one user was trying to make the viewmodel legs work in l4d2 but he can't by the moment... http://www.l4dmaps.com/profile.php?id=207024&user=KillzNThrillz
Why is it so hard to implement legs in L4D2, while it's easy to do in Gmod?
Why is it so hard to implement legs in L4D2, while it's easy to do in Gmod?
I'd assume it's the .vpk system.
So is it as simple as just changing the system?
Why did they remove them? [editline]7th August 2012[/editline] i mean between l4d1 and 2. Like the Op I found them to be very immersive.
I also wonder this. Isn't valve known for being very detailed in their games?
Why is it so hard to implement legs in L4D2
Erm. Uh, yeah, you go ahead and try to decompile those .dlls, kiddo. I mean, or we could just use lua- Oh yeah, we can't, like GMOD. The legs addon you're talking about is exactly that, an addon. Addons in Gmod are made in Lua, and Lua was used only for gmod. As for .dlls, they are what control the game, client (things that happen on your side) and server (things that happen to the server, but in some cases, the server could be offline). GMOD had those programmed to search through the addons folder and take what was writen in lua and correspond those events to what happens in the game. Sadly, we can't just decompile a .dll file, and if we could, we couldn't just join a server because it would be modifying our core files, which would get you VAC banned. This is some pretty basic stuff, you should probably do a little more research into what the limits are of Source and C++ coding.
Oh my bad I just wanted legs.
Why did they remove them? [editline]7th August 2012[/editline] i mean between l4d1 and 2. Like the Op I found them to be very immersive.
rushed development
rushed development
I thought it was console development.
I thought it was console development.
maybe, l4d1 has legs only on pc.
So is it as simple as just changing the system?
Changing the system is simple? Bwahahahaha
Why did they remove them? [editline]7th August 2012[/editline] i mean between l4d1 and 2. Like the Op I found them to be very immersive.
wasn't it explained in the l4d2 commentary?
Changing the system is simple? Bwahahahaha
So I'm guessing it's not. Godammit I need my legs, I can't just sit here without legs.

Yeah, legs were cut from L4D2 because consoles couldn't handle them. At the time Valve was trying to make the game more console friendly.
Yeah, legs were cut from L4D2 because consoles couldn't handle them. At the time Valve was trying to make the game more console friendly.
bf3,crysis 2... legs on consoles and better engines
My question is, why didn't Valve just cut legs from the console version, and not the PC? Why did they cut legs from both versions? Why did they make a console version?
Is L4D1 the only Valve game with legs? I thought Portal 2 had them, but I don't quite remember.
Portal 2 doesn't have them, L4D1 is the only one as far as I'm concerned.
Well, it shouldn't be the only one. Atleast make it toggleable in game, so people who want to be floating torsos can do so.

(although said legs addons are probably inspired by L4D in the first place, but meh) Yeah, it's a nice immersion feature, even if they weren't perfect in their only debut so far in Valve's games. Yeah, it's kinda funky that, due to the console development, they pulled them out of L4D2 (allegedly it was due to the legs and the gore taking up too much processing at the same time for consoles, so they removed the legs, but the console gore is still gimped anyway). But it doesn't mean they're absolutely required or necessary, does it? :v:
It doesn't have to be required for people to want it back in. It's the little details that make Valve games great, that and the good gameplay. And like I said, make it toggleable, not that complicated.
