A multi-player vitural world/community space for the steam/source engine platform. Covering up to various games within source. The mod is currently in Alpha stage. If you know what PlayStation Home is, you'll know mostly of what we're trying to do here. We are basically attempting to create a community space/vitural world around all of the current games that have been made by Valve that are of course on the Source Engine. We plan to introduce things such as the ability to create private lobbies with friends or strangers within source lobby that would take all of the players to a server of the lobby hosts choice, this wouldn't require any rcon passwords for anything. All it does is run a command line that will close source lobby and then do something like the steam connect command to an ip like 12.34.56.78:27015 The point being that Source Lobby would provide to the steam community a vitural space/world in which players can meet one another on and to arrange things and have fun. On Source Lobby there will also be mini-games incase they cannot find anything else to do. The first video is a just a test run of an early alpha map and a thirdperson test. Going up to one of the signs within Source Lobby will take you to other spaces within the map that are otherwise known as additional spaces. These additional spaces will include themed areas for games and themed areas for mini-games and other fun things. You can also see any pictures/materials/videos/logos that are uploaded here which also includes old screenshots of failed builds. You can see anything else about the mod here if its not added here. You can also join the public steam group on this mod. Atleast you have some content, I really can't see this mod going anywhere, it doesn't have real meaning apart from hanging about and sitting there.
It could work if it's something like the Gmod tower.
Atleast you have some content, I really can't see this mod going anywhere, it doesn't have real meaning apart from hanging about and sitting there.
Besides that I have plans for mini-games and some other features. I've already stated the private lobby feature.
Sounds like GmodTower except oriented at source games.
Sounds like GmodTower except oriented at source games.
I'm going to try and to avoid making it like GMOD Tower. It sounds like it but it won't be like it.
I like the idea because it basically summarises all i ever did in gmod. i hope you get some top quality mappers to help you with this project or it will start to look like generic source base maps everywhere, but i'm sure if you execute this right it could go well. good luck with the mod!

At the moment I am planning to delete everything on the map but for the pool and the mall and to re-structure the entire map.
this has potential my good sir
I rebuilt the map, here is some screenshots, I will add more detail to them another time. I am going to be blunt: no one will use this. It is basically a map where you hang about. It would only be minorly plausible if you basically made it a 3D steam window of sorts. As in, accessing your game library and all that. But even if you did, it is still pretty useless.
I am going to be blunt: no one will use this.
Why the self agree? And if no one uses it then its their choice. This WILL be finished and it WILL be far more than just a map for people to meet on. I plan to add many more interactive things from mini-games to activities as well as lobbies for joining any game on the source engine with your friends, including support for multi-player mods like Zombie Panic Source.

Looks like a map with teleports in thirdperson. Your goal seems to be towards the casual gaming side of things, but in a virtual world. Seems unnecessary when there are flash games, IRC and IM everywhere these days. I wish you luck in your endeavours however.
reminds me of obsidian conflict [editline]15th January 2011[/editline] which i should reinstall if it wasnt deader than crabs in england
Far from it (taken 5 minutes ago): @ OP, the idea is quite good, Obsidian Conflict uses lobbies and most people enjoy the hanging around and collectively deciding on which maps to play. There have been eight lobby maps made for obsidian by various community mappers over the years.
I could see this going somewhere. People can gather, find others who want to do the same thing, and then add eachother. Pretty handy for L4D2, rather than joining a random lobby you could get a group going without surfing around.
make a weed room like a room entirely flooded with smoke
basically its RP but more wacky?
basically its RP but more wacky?
Nothing to do with RP at all. If you ever played PlayStation Home or something like it. You'd understand what i'm attempting to create. Its kind of hard to understand if you haven't played a single game focusing around that genre. I guess thats because there isn't many of them around.
Might need to improve your mapping skills OP , if you are trying to do a successfull mod then you'll need some pretty visuals to go with it
Might need to improve your mapping skills OP , if you are trying to do a successfull mod then you'll need some pretty visuals to go with it
I will add more detail into the map as time goes on. I will keep note of that.

I don't really understand the point of this. I mean, couldn't you just have a group chat and then have everyone join their respective games without having to load up an entirely different mod just to decide? Seems to me like it would just be a needless addition to waiting time. Anyway, your maps are pretty bland looking and don't make a lot of sense. Look up some real world reference images and give your maps a central theme instead of oddly lit hallways and prison yards. And make the lights originate from somewhere, put a light model for every light you make. [editline]16th January 2011[/editline] I suggest scouring Interlopers (google it) for mapping tips and tutorials.
Tile doesn't go on walls, and combine/tile textures don't really compliment each other. Also, try not to use all-white lighting.
It could work if it's something like the Gmod tower.
with 100% less furries and 5 year olds. EDIT:and admin abuse.
i think this would look a lot better if you kept the textures and style clean and modern. make the architecture as interesting as you can, using reference, even if the parts where the player goes is relatively simple. you could use a dirtier style in different places if you really wanted to but for something like this i don't think it's necessary. the only thing that would get me to download this mod is if it had large maps with an opportunity to explore- not in the WoW sense but in a pissing about sense. once again, make the maps seem large and interesting. that's the hook that gets people interested
with 100% admin abuse.
No, the admins should be complete nazis about everything. Would keep the place nice and tidy.

I will build things such as gardens and night clubs as well. Current overview of the map. Not much but i'm making progress slowly.
