Introduction Warsow is a very fast-paced first person shooter with the first public multiplayer version of the game (0.04a) being made in 2005-06-08 using Qfusion, a heavily modified Quake II engine. The game contains plenty of different strategies that can help you gain an edge over other players, for example, bunny hopping, dashing, wall jumping and more. The game itself bases itself loosely around the novel Fabrice Demurge wrote named "Chasseur de bots" (That's "Hunter Bots" in English). The official website for Chasseur de bots can be found here if anyone is interested. (The website is in French so you may want to translate it.) The graphics are what some describe to be a mix of Quake II and a sort of Borderlands style, using cell shading, this makes the game have a very unique and non-eyerapish look. The effects are clear and minimalistic to avoid players getting distracted and put off. Gameplay The developers heavily focused on fast movements, tricks and combos to enhance the enjoyability of the game and some tricks are similar to those in the Quake series. The tricks in Warsow are very useful when engaging someone in combat, for example the dash move can help dodge oncoming fire from an enemy and allow you to get a good shot or two in or rocket jumping, a trick that can help give you an extra little boost that could perhaps get you to a higher platform to evade an enemy when your health is low. (Keep in mind rocket jumping takes off 25 or so health from you every time you use it) There are plenty more moves in Warsow, a few of those being circle-jumping, bunny hopping, strafe-jumping and double jumping, all of which can be used to turn a match around and help you win. The various movement tricks combine to add an extra dimension to the gameplay; as the player's proficiency at moving increases, they are able to collect health, armour and weapons more quickly, and to overpower less capable enemies. The variety and flexibility of the physics has spawned an entire community dedicated to competing on the various Race maps that the game offers. Everyone is on his own. Your goal is simply to get as many kills as possible. Items and power ups available. FFA – Free For All Free for all. Everyone is on his own. Your goal is simply to get as many kills as possible. Weapons available on spawn, other items and power ups available on the maps. Duel – One on One One on One. May the better of the two players win. No Power Ups available. Armors and health do not spawn for the first 15 seconds of the game. TDM – Team Deathmatch Team-based Deathmatch. Often 4on4 or 2on2. Items and Power Ups available Maps played in this gametype: wdm1 (2on2), wdm2 (2on2), wdm6 (2on2), wtest4, wtest7, wtest13 CTF – Capture The Flag Try to capture your enemies flag In order to capture the the flag, you have stand for 3.5 seconds on enemies flag. In order to score you have to stand for 2 seconds on your teams flag. When the enemy flag-carrier is killed, you can walk over your dropped flag to return it to your base. CTF is usually played with teams consisting of 5 players. Items and powerups are available Race Try to get the best time by finishing the set race course on the map as quickly as possible! Often no items or Power Ups available (depending on the map) Instagib Instagib is an alternate gametype where a single shot can instantly kill an enemy from any range. All players carry only a special Instagun, which can fire lethal shots at incredibly high velocities, but with a slow rate of fire. Since there are no other weapons, ammo or other types of pickups to collect, gameplay tends to be very fast-paced with a heavy emphasis on reflexes, hand-eye coordination and positioning, as opposed to resource management and control. The word "instagib" is derived from the terms instant and gib (a gory body fragment). No items or Power Ups available Player shield - It is activated by crouching and has a warmup time. Clan arena Clan Arena is very similar to standard deathmatch, in that players battle it out against each other for survival. The major differences are that the players are split into two teams and all start with certain resources (including weapons, heavy ammo, health, and armor) and that all resources are removed from the map (preventing players from improving their condition). These two conditions focus the gameplay towards fighting and away from more traditional deathmatch techniques that involve resource domination. Each Clan Arena game contains one or more rounds. Each round begins by spawning players randomly throughout the map, or arena. Once a player is fragged, he or she is removed from play, and allowed to spectate. When one team has no more players in the arena, the other team wins the round and the next round begins. The team that wins the most rounds, wins the game. Warsow CA has three classes, each with their own unique heavy ammo and normal ammo layouts. Grunt: RG(15normal/15heavy) GL(15normal) RL(50normal/25heavy) PG(75normal) LG(120normal) EB(10normal) Camper: RG(15normal) GL(15normal/20heavy) RL(50normal) PG(75normal) LG(120normal) EB(10normal/10heavy) Spammer: RG(15normal) GL(15normal) RL(50normal) PG(75normal/75heavy) LG(120normal/100heavy} EB(10normal) Bomb & Defuse There are 2 teams. One team attacks, and the other defends. At halftime the tasks are swapped and attackers become defenders. If you are attacker, the goal of your team is to place a bomb in one of the 2 spots marked as A or B before the time reaches zero. One member of the team is given the bomb, the other members escort him to one of the bomb spots. You can see the A and B symbols on the screen which help you reaching the spots. When the player with the bomb reaches the spot the bomb is dropped, and a circle appears around it. One player of the attacker team (not necessarily the bomb carrier) has to touch that circle until the bomb is armed. Once the bomb is armed their mission is to stop the defenders from disarming it before it explodes. If it explodes the attackers win. When playing as defender your mission is to stop attackers from planting/arming the bomb. If they get to arm it, any member of the defender team can defuse it by touching the circle around the bomb. If the bomb is disarmed, the defenders win. If every defender dies the attackers win. If every attacker dies and the bomb hasn't been armed, the defenders win. Team Domination There are 2 or 3 control points per map which you have to capture and defend You have all weapons at start Only quad/warshell are spawned on maps Headhunt First player who gets shot loses all items and becomes 'tag'. Other players try to hunt down the tagged player. Tagged player has warshell effect. Tagged player shows in minimap (cg_showminimap 1) Scoring system Tagged player gets 1 point for each 2 seconds staying alive 5 points for tagging player 10 points for killing tagged player 5 points for headhunt defense (killing someone while being tagged) -25 points for killing someone else than tagged player 1 point for hitting headhunters with gunblade when tagged Duel arena One on One with all guns at spawn No items/powerups Round based gametype CTF Tactics Capture the Flag gametype with classes and turrets! Tactics requires more interaction between the team members, and classes are very different compared to, lets say CA classes. Each class has a purpose, and no class stands over other. Character Selection In Warsow you can select any character from a list of 7, all of which can have their colors changed, you can also choose to have either default coloring (This colors in only certain parts of the character and leaves other parts defaults) or fullbright coloring (this colors in the whole character a certain color). Here's a list of all the characters you can choose in-game. Interesting. Looks like Quake with a bit of Borderlands.
It looks like quake but with more animals.
Interesting. Looks like Quake with a bit of Borderlands.
It actually existed long before Borderlands.
You do realize this thread is two years old, right?
You do realize this thread is two years old, right?
Since when did old threads become unbumpable? It's still relevant.
There were litterally four posts in this megathread, and that's even including the OP. Incredible, must be some form of record.
