• Why are the controls of the PC version of Dead Space so terrible?

I really wanted to like this game, but after 15 minutes I am so frustrated I will likely never play it again. Just on the menu screen, it took me ages to select the button I wanted, as the mouse would dart all over the screen regardless of what I did with my hand, and messing with the mouse sensitivity didn't help at all. The game itself is pretty much unplayable; every time I try to go through a door I spend 5 seconds running into the doorframe, and combat is just frustrating rather than scary. There's no point trying to shoot at the zombies, as the chance of the crosshairs actually lining up with them is nil, and I just end up mashing the 'punch' button until it dies. I must be missing something here, all the reviews say that this game is fantastic, but I can't walk across a room without wanting to smash my computer. Has anyone else with the PC version had similar problems? Any way to fix it? In my experience, the PC controls were damn near perfect; I never had a single problem with the game. Not exactly sure what's going on with yours, but make sure you disable V-sync; that fucks up the mouse aim.
Don't you turn off V-sync? There's a wall covered in blood and someone's written "Turn off V Sync".
1. Apparently it might be something to do with having a USB mouse, I've seen other people with similar problems 2. Thanks for the advice guys, how do I turn off V-sync?
Yeah, you have to disable V-sync and crank the sensitivity all the way to the top end to really get the benefits of the mouse. That said, despite owning it on PC, I just find it easier to use a 360 controller, as it has native support. The only part I resorted to my mouse was a certain asteroid sequence.

Thanks, that's made it a lot better.

Why it's on by default is beyond me.
late but [img_thumb]http://i.cubeupload.com/pgD7hX.jpg[/img_thumb]
If that really in the game? If so, I would laugh my ass off if I saw it.
If that really in the game? If so, I would laugh my ass off if I saw it.
I'm pretty sure in the xbox version it says cut off their limbs. I can't vouch for the pc version though.
If that really in the game? If so, I would laugh my ass off if I saw it.
Why, ofcourse it is, after all, if it was not, then he would be lying, and i think i can safely say that nobody on this forum would ever lie for any reason, especially not for a joke, that would just be crazy!
If that really in the game? If so, I would laugh my ass off if I saw it.
Yeah Id like to know that too. I think the "cut off their limbs" is there. But not sure.
I think if vsync is on it's actually there, but if it's off it's not.
Ill start a new game with vsync on and see if its there.
You know OP, you could've Googled this. And it should be in Technical Support not GGD.
Nope, it doesnt say that even with vsync on.
You know OP, you could've Googled this. And it should be in Technical Support not GGD.
I tried Googling it but I couldn't find anything useful, except people saying that it was something to do with having a USB mouse.
You know OP, you could've Googled this. I'm fucking tired of asking for help on something I couldn't find in Google, and there's always one moron who goes "Google it"
It's called mouse acceleration.
