Hello Facepunch! My name is David Prassel. I am the Project Director and Game Designer (among other smaller tasks) for Orion.* We have just recently launched our new website over at:* http://www.orion-project.net We have installed new forums on top of this (which match nicely with the site) and are also constantly updating our ModDB page:* http://www.moddb.com/mods/orion1 We have been working on Orion for just a little bit over two years now (previously known as Incoming before all of the design, engine and graphical changes). We are scheduled to release THIS month and are currently conducting severe amounts of beta testing.* We are accepting beta testers (via our forums) on a weekly basis so if you are interested that's how you can get it in and help us iron a few things out and enjoy yourself. I know pictures help, so here you guys go: (In the pictures above you'll notice its Human vs. Human.* This was a placeholder as for the last week or so we have been doing some work to the character rig on the aliens.* However, the Aliens are now back in-game and will be featured in any media from here on out). I will also link you to some Blu-Ray resolution images of Orion.* I won't Image-Tag them just because I don't want to rape the forum space: http://www.orion-project.net/Team/development/bluray/bluray_orion01.jpg http://www.orion-project.net/Team/development/bluray/bluray_orion02.jpg http://www.orion-project.net/Team/development/bluray/bluray_orion03.jpg http://www.orion-project.net/Team/development/bluray/bluray_orion04.jpg http://www.orion-project.net/Team/development/bluray/bluray_orion05.jpg http://www.orion-project.net/Team/development/bluray/bluray_orion06.jpg We are currently seeking some talent: Level Designers (2) Programmer (1) 3D Artist (2) - world objects If you're interested in joining please use my following personal contacts to reach me! Looks really cool.
Now that is impressive!

2 years? This should be fantastic, I'm glad you spent so much time on it!
What's the point of sights if the game doesn't use Red Orchestra/Insurgency aiming system? Almost all FPS games should have that in my opinion.
Looks like halo with a mix of half life 2 and Call of Duty.
Looks interesting, I'll keep an eye on this one.
Now hang on, bullet ricochets? As far as I know the only mod that got even close to that was SMOD, and this is a multiplayer mod. I don't think the source engine is capable of proper ricochets :crossarms:
physical particles? i dunno, pretty sure the crossbow bolt was able to ricochet
Yes, but changing hitscan bullets into actual physical objects is going to cause any modder a world of pain/rape/hurt because of the horrendous lag you'd get from it.
Heard about that mod before, somehow I remember only Halo dinosaurs: source.
Wow, info about a mod that might actually get released? Interesting...
Amazing. I sure hope enough people will play it when it releases.
Looks like another general "shoot the other team" mod.
2 years? This should be fantastic, I'm glad you spent so much time on it!
2 years? Try 8 years. Taking this mod serious is pretty hard. Every media release is some player shooting at pipes, the ground or the sky... It was supposed to be release ages ago. It was leaked in September. What a disappointment.
Hey guys, I'll try to respond to all of you. Talishmar: What do you mean exactly? There are pros and cons to using scoped view and iron sights (depending on what the weapon has). When you toggle iron sights your accuracy is increased but your movement speed is reduced to walk. It's completely up to the player on whether he wants to use it or not. MegaErathia: You're almost on the same level as me actually. If I had to personally "label" our game, I would say its a combination of Call of Duty-esque gun combat mixed with a few elements from Tribes in a Halo-Like universe. The only true relation to Halo (any more at least) is that we both feature mostly out door environments and have space marines. About bullet ricochets... I completely forgot to delete that and appologize. There ARE NO BULLET RICOCHETS. I am sorry about the confusion. Long story short. We originally began development on the Episode 1 engine. We later in development (around 50-60% complete) we ported to the Orange Box engine when it was released. This brought an onslaught of problems. I'll quote it from our news post:
During the port we had lost (and had/have to rebuild): All of the weapons. By this I mean: Fixing muzzle flashes, shell ejections, adding bones and attachments, fixing materials, all of that for the world (w_) models as well. On top of this, our entire weapons database system had been messed up. That meant we had to go through and re-do the entire system which handled everything such as: Damages, hitboxes, bullet spread, accuracy, fire modes, scoped views, iron sights, etc! So basically everything.
diwako: I believe that orignated from HL2World :) We actually are planning on changing our website on the day of release to a 'Halo Dinosaurs' theme. (Similar to what Google does for holidays and other random days when they change there logo). Hopefully it happens =) Keychain: It is. But there are plenty of other elements in the game that change up the pace and way you play (especially depending on the class you choose). Every game at the core is "that". It's just a matter of what they put on top of the cake that makes the fun last. Either way, we hope you at least give it a shot and hopefully impressions so we know what you like and don't like. ProZaK: This is true.... to an extent. You're absolutely right a 'form' of this game started 8 years ago. It was under the name of 'Incoming'. At the time it was something else entirely. Resembled much more Halo than anything. After that we went back and spent over a year re-designing almost every aspect of the game as well as going through the game design and changing well over 50% of it. It had become an entirely different game. And for the better at that. This would never have happened as if it wasn't for the (very) vocal people that made me really check it over. So in a way thank you! But it'll also be better for everyone. Here is a small comparison between the two. Orion has become a much more polished game all around (from an art direction to the core gameplay). We hope you give it a shot and can sway your mind. Also, feel free to check out the weapon demonstration video over at ModDB: http://www.moddb.com/mods/orion1/videos
I was calling it a generic Team Sourcemod Deathmatch. But the Maps seem fancy. And Halo-esque. [editline]05:19PM[/editline] Especially the Playermodels.
Looks... bland? And the models and everything look like they're from Eternal Silence. Which is actually kind of a compliment I suppose.
This and City 17: Episode 1 are mods I am looking forward.
Wow, never heard of this masterpiece until today. Valve should release it through steam like all the other mods, (that weren't good) but this one definatly is amazing and should be put on steam.

The visuals are cool, but gameplay looks generic.
Looks amazing!
bullet ricochet
Got my download. (When it comes out)
Looks like halo with a mix of half life 2 and Call of Duty.
Well the Dev team have said that it took idea's from Halo's pre-production back when Halo was going to have dinosaurs and other stuff..But since bungie scrapped that idea i guess it's ok for the Dev team to make this mod. Oh yes this mod has dinosaurs
This song came to mind when I read the thread title. :banjo:
First off - That is an awesome smiley haha. Second, that'd be fantastic if we could rock out with that tune in-game :P
At first i wasn't sure it was actually a source game :v:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/orion1/videos Some quick gameplay segments from a 3 v 3 match earlier today. We will be releasing footage from our 32 player playtest this sunday as well as an 'Official' 2009 Trailer. Enjoy this for what it is... and that is clips slapped together :)
Looks like any generic run around shooting people game.
