• CS:S - Crash on game launch

First of all, I apologise in advance if there is a thread regarding this problem that has already been addressed. Search is disabled, and I couldn't find any thread on Google about it. This is regarding a problem I am having in CS:S (not the CS:S beta) recently. To describe the problem in the easiest way possible, after launching the game I stall on the 'Loading...' screen, for a minute or so, before I receive a message stating that the HL2.exe has crashed. An unpreferred, but tolerable temporary alternative solution I stumbled upon via a Google search was adding '-window' to the launch options. Turns out some people had the same problem during the TF2 beta. Whilst this solution is an adequate substitute, I would much prefer to be running full screen. The only significant changes which have been done to my PC since the last time it was functioning correctly is the addition of my new 23" Samsung SyncMaster 2333 (1920 x 1080) monitor. The error, according to the error report, is "Fault Module Name: vguimatsurface.dll", I can give the whole error report if need be but I felt it a bit unnecessary. I have tried the following things and they have failed to work:

Renaming the 'counter-strike source' folder in my steam directory, in order to have the files recreated.
Individually renaming the vguimatesurface.dll file.
Reinstalling the latest up-to-date NVIDIA drivers
Installing the latest monitors drivers
Fiddling with CS:S video settings a little.
PC restart, and for that matter a Steam restart.
They're the only things I've tried that I can remember at least. Any help is appreciated. Oh it might also be worth noting, I tried launching another source game (TF2) and it launched fine. Also no comments like "Solution: Don't play CS:S", they're not helpful at all and I've been craving gun game lately
You've been here since 2008 and still posted this in the wrong section?
Crap, had videos and flash + valve games open on 2 separate tabs. Could a mod please move this?
If your problem isn't fixed by the time the CS:S beta comes out, since it's running on an updated engine you could use -windowed -noborder and run it at fullscreen resolution. I read a lot of people are crashing by running CS:S in 1920x1080 in fullscreen, another user suggested running in compatability mode for Vista/XP if you are using 7.
I've mis posted in the wrong section before
Other than being in the wrong section, I will try to help. First, reinstall CS:S. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling steam. Don't worry. Games are saved to your account, not copy of steam.

I also tried different compatibility modes (like Vista as suggested), still no luck.
Other than being in the wrong section, I will try to help. First, reinstall CS:S. If you mean reinstall by renaming the "couter-strike source", then I have already done that and no luck. If didn't mean either of those, please elaborate a bit more? I left out a bit of potentially essential details in the OP, it was ~1:00am and I wasn't exactly thinking straight. I have dual monitors, primary is Samsung SyncMaster 2333 23" (1920 x 1080), secondary is Samsung SyncMaster 2033sw 20" (1600 x 900). OS: Windows 7 x64 Graphics: NVIDIA 8800GTS If you need any more details just ask and I will tell. Also, I'm not sure if this is totally relevant but I have noticed that when on the loading screen, my mouse flickers. That's about the only sign of any activity going on. I've googled around some more except this time specifically regarding the 1920 x 1080 monitor resolution, and some people have been encountering similar problems but I am still yet to find a working solution for myself.
