I don't really like it, I like the buying games part but the rest I could do without. I think they should make it optional since VAC is terrible. And steam does not stop pirates.
At least they have the decency to tell you when your games are updated and host tons of mods
console fag
You know this won't end well right?
You know this won't end well right?
Just a expression , don't get your knickers in a twist. [editline]22nd December 2010[/editline]
At least they have the decency to tell you when your games are updated and host tons of mods
That okay But I should not have to be on the internet to play games and Have To update them.
I think it's okay but I often would prefer to install my games from a disk rather than download them.
I like it in general, but there are times where I really wish there were changes like optional updates. .
if you mean VAC doesn't stop pirates, you're right but it never was supposed to if you mean steam doesn't stop pirates, you're right but i doubt it was supposed to anyway VAC is ok but the fact that it's delayed makes it seem fucking useless at times [editline]22nd December 2010[/editline] not really.
It's delayed so it gives cheat coders a harder time.
I like it in general, but there are times where I really wish there were changes like optional updates. .
By optional updates you mean steam updates or game updates?
No what I meant that Steam does not stop Pirates and VAC does not stop cheaters. [editline]22nd December 2010[/editline]
By optional updates you mean steam updates or game updates?
Both for different reasons. [editline]22nd December 2010[/editline]
Vac may not stop pirates but steam as a whole does.
Put pretty much any steam in TPB and search, they're will be lots of torrents.
I like it But I wish it was optional you had to use it to launch games. Or at least fix offline mode either way works.
Steam is currently the best DRM system. It doesn't use restrictions that only harm the legit users, instead it offers incentives to people who actually buy the games. It might not block pirates per se, but it makes good enough offers to make the pirates buy the game. Also, VAC stands for Valve Anti-Cheat, it's not VAP.
By optional updates you mean steam updates or game updates?
Game updates. I had my progress in Eufloria erased as an example.
Not I just phrased it wrong
A few clicks and I'm already downloading a game, or better yet, playing it. Yeah I like it better than disks. Plus you don't have to visit a store 3 times a week to find a game for <$10, you can just look on the store.
That okay But I should not have to be on the internet to play games and Have To update them.
you don't have to do either of those things
Just a expression , don't get your knickers in a twist. [editline]22nd December 2010[/editline] That okay But I should not have to be on the internet to play games and Have To update them.
Turn off automatic updating and turn on offline mode ??? Profit
What I really don't like is the client's tendency to FREEZE UP whenever there's an update coming (sounds like they didn't put that in a separate thread), and the fact that you can get your account disabled over nothing and lose access to all of your games.
I think it's okay but I often would prefer to install my games from a disk rather than download them.
A lot of PC games can be bought at retail on disks. [editline]22nd December 2010[/editline] I love Steam. I've never had a single problem with it and I love not having to manually update everything myself.
After having Steam, I couldn't live without it.
The argument "You can't sell used games because of Steam" is pretty dumb because you can't sell back PC games with CD-keys nowadays. Otherwise, like MaxofS2D has said about its real cons.
Game updates. I had my progress in Eufloria erased as an example.
You could stop the auto updates in the settings, did it to tf2 then when I finally want to play tf2 I had to DL a big update, then after that I lost interest in tf2 again.

The only thing I dislike is that steam takes a while to start, at least for me.
I like Steam. I just hate the pipes.
I love steam because it means I can't lose/break my games.
Steam is the best thing to happen to games. Makes it super easy to get games, update games, manage your games, everything. There are also sales ALL the time.
Just a expression , don't get your knickers in a twist. [editline]22nd December 2010[/editline] Note: There is a setting where you can choose NOT to automatically update games. That okay But I should not have to be on the internet to play games and Have To update them.
I love Steam. Met so many good people on there. Lotsa friends too.
I've met most of my internet friends on Steam. Crazily enough, I've met some real life friends through Steam :ohdear:.
