• Most Moddable/Best Moddable PC Games?
    40 replies, posted
Looking for some recommendations on some of the more moddable PC games, as I rather enjoy modding/tweaking games, and have a week off coming up. Open to both current and past games that are fun to mod, and allow at least relatively easy customization. PS: If this is in the wrong forum or section, let me know and I'll move/delete it.
Morrowind. Oblivion. Fallout 3. Half Life 2. Just to name a few.
All of Valve's games.
Modern Warfare 2.
Although practically ancient by now, Halo CE is out there to be modded... A lot.
Although practically ancient by now, Halo CE is out there to be modded... A lot.
I'm fine with ancient, as long as its a fun game to mod/mess with. I guess I should have listed stuff I already have and have modded in the past, so: HL2/Gmod/L4D/TF2/etc GTA VC GTA SA Max Payne 1 & 2 Black & White 1 &2

Still one of the top 5 posters though, pretty funny.
Modern Warfare 2.
FUCK YOU I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT. But yeah, this. Plus, you get developers who care, unlike those morons at valve.

The red box MW2 Duke nukem forever all mmo's mass effect All DS games all ps1 games I got all the unfunny non-moddable shit here, here you go.
Garrysmod Mount&Blade Crysis Some Total War games
Doom It's so moddable the engine is open source
According to the Metroid online team it's dead.
Still seems like it's kicking, although people have been trying to keep it alive for a while, it's been on its way out since Bungie stopped updating/supporting it.... And since Halo 2 came out.
I was thinking ARMA. Look what they did with ACE mod.
Yeah but ACE mod took an assload of work to do to get to that point for what is essentually a bunch of under-the-hood tweaks. I'd say Crysis. Crysis has one of the BEST modding tools by far of any game out there... HL2's might be the most popular but Hammer and the source SDK is so damn ancient and outdated to use.
I am stunned nobody mentioned UT2004, as it's one of the most modded games ever.
Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3. They're all open-source I'm pretty sure.
It's fun to fiddle with the Mass Effect engine. Mostly because they never intended you to do that.

Operation Flashpoint, the first one.
Cortex Command is quite moddable.
UT3's pretty moddable, and now that UDK's been released most major mods are moving to a standalone release. Bro'in.
All the unreal games have SDK's.
download the UDK. Make your own games to mod :-D
Gonna vote for the iD games. Doom and Quake.
Doom It's so moddable the engine is open source
ZDooM has a great language called DECORATE. Example:
ACTOR ReampDoomPlayer : PlayerPawn { Speed 0.9 Health 100 Radius 16 Height 56 Mass 100 PainChance 255 Player.ColorRange 112, 127 Player.DisplayName "Marine" Player.CrouchSprite "PLYC" Player.StartItem "RedonePistol" Player.StartItem "Fist" Player.StartItem "Clip", 100 Player.StartItem "Gren", 3 Player.StartItem "HandGrenade" States { Spawn: PLA2 A -1 Loop See: PLA2 ABCD 4 Loop Missile: PLA2 E 12 Goto Spawn Melee: PLA2 F 6 BRIGHT Goto Missile Pain: PLA2 G 4 PLA2 G 4 A_Pain Goto Spawn Death: PLA2 H 10 A_PlayerSkinCheck("AltSkinDeath") PLA2 I 10 A_PlayerScream PLA2 J 10 A_NoBlocking PLA2 KLM 10 PLA2 N -1 Stop XDeath: PLA2 O 5 A_PlayerSkinCheck("AltSkinXDeath") PLA2 P 5 A_XScream PLA2 Q 5 A_NoBlocking PLA2 RSTUV 5 PLA2 W -1 Stop AltSkinDeath: PLA2 H 6 PLA2 I 6 A_PlayerScream PLA2 JK 6 PLA2 L 6 A_NoBlocking PLA2 MNO 6 PLA2 P -1 Stop AltSkinXDeath: PLA2 Q 5 A_PlayerScream PLA2 R 0 A_NoBlocking PLA2 R 5 A_SkullPop PLA2 STUVWX 5 PLA2 Y -1 Stop } }
It's very simple once you figure it out. and you can make some really cool stuff very easily.
Oblivion, Morrowind... Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic is also pretty moddable, though I'm not sure if the community is still alive...
Dragon Age: Origins Or so BioWare has said.
C&C Renegade is somewhat open to modding. The only good one out there that I've seen is Renalert though. The website for Renalert is here. You can actually download and play it now without having Renegade installed too. http://www.apathbeyond.com/
Fallout 3 has tons of awesome mods. And oblivion. But if you want to mess around you must get Garrysmod, its basicly designed to be fucked around with. And there is always something new to do/make.
