[release]They're finally here!

A lot of clients have been asking us for Minecraft servers for quite some time. I've taken the leap and bought an entire new box solely dedicated to Minecraft - the most powerful box I've ever put into our network. No other gameservers or services will be run on this box. Minecraft is known for taxing the CPU, RAM, and especially the HDDs - and we've compensated for that fact. The boxes dedicated to Minecraft have the following specifications:
Dual Xeon Nehalem E5520
24GB DDR3-1600 RAM
4x1TB RAID-10 HDD Array (Redundancy and speed)
1000mbit Port
Anyways, I'll cut to the chase: pricing.
256MB server: $10/month, $28.50/quarter, $54.00/semiannual, $102.00/annual
512MB server: $20/month, $57.00/quarter, $108.00/semiannual, $204.00/annual
1024MB server: $35/month, $99.75/quarter, $189.00/semiannual, $357.00/annual
It may seem a bit expensive at first, but remember that our boxes have top of the line hardware and we aren't just filling up the extra space on the rest of our network. The average GMOD server doesn't even take 256MB of RAM.
There's no slot limit, and Bukkit comes preinstalled with Essentials and Permissions. You can have us upload any addon you'd like (provided it isn't malicious) by just opening a support ticket. The server autorestarts when it crashes or hangs, and you have FTP access to the whole server (excluding exe/jar/dll). We'll have Bukkit plugins available for preinstallation, if you think any should be added mention it in the thread or open a ticket.

Very nice, maybe I'll get one when I get some more cash monies.
Just rented one, I'll try it out for a month.

First one too. :buddy:
What is the control panel, TCadmin?

Yeah. I had to write a wrapper for the server's executable so it could properly terminate/autorestart the server.

Can't you include the plugins as a mod? Then support tickets would only need to be opened for getting a plugin added or support.

That's our plan. I asked in the MC thread what plugins should be available for autoinstall.

Well is it going to take time before plugins can be autoinstalled? Cause in the OP you stated that you would need to open a ticket to get plugins installed.

I heard that for every 8 players on Minecraft, you need a Gig of RAM to run everyone smoothly without much lag happening (Note that this is for a 4000X4000 explored area), is a 256mb Server really going to be enough?
Why is the Gig one like $35? What's the performance like? I'm running through a VM with 256mb and its not pleasant. So, would your 256 be the same or offer smoothness?
Also, there a way to FTP plugins and configs up ourselves? That's more suitable to what I'm after.

Not true at all. I tested my own server at 256mb and it ran just fine with about 8 people spread out and about. It's mainly the disk activity that's involved with players being spread out, something VPSes are not good at.
The VM encompasses the operating system as well.
I believe on the server, the minecraft servers are each limited to 256MB/512MB/1024 through Java commands.

The gigabyte pricing is $35 because I can only put 23 of them on a box that costs me $450/month. A VM on 256mb isn't a good idea because A. VMs suck for gameserver hosting - especially Minecraft, and B. the OS uses some of that RAM. It would offer a lot more smoothness due to the fact that it's not virtualized at all. You can FTP your configuration files and world and such, but any .jar files will have to be uploaded by us (we usually respond to these tickets within 10 minutes or less)

Correctamundo. That's another thing my wrapper does - set the server IP and the RAM usage.

I'll look into each of these later tonight before the launch. Thanks.
One last question, what about the plugins? Is there a possibility for FTP access so we can add our own? If yes, then I'm after a server.

Like I said, has to be either installed through the mod installer or a support ticket. We can't allow random .jars to run on our box because people could then just upload malicious code and mess with other servers/the box itself.

Fair enough, so If I made a list of all Bukkit plugins, they'd be installed. Oh and uhh, what about maps? I've got a 130mB server map that I'd like to use for a server.

You can upload it.
I think I might get one, but I'm still thinking for how long. Using the coupon on the year price is so tempting.
Interesting, whereabout are the servers located?
Interesting, whereabout are the servers located?
Currently only in Chicago but once we do well there we'll open up the Germany location for it too.
Okay :(
I'll be interested when you open something up in Germany :)
Do it. I need to make $1000 in the next 15 days anyways. :gonk:
bro don't you have a job, if you had a job next to this you'd have maximum broness
I did, but then I quit it so I could put more time into Brohoster.
you're a real bro
Finally, been waiting for so long. :buddy:
And I noticed no more Alien Swarm servers on the list, but I doubt many of them were rented anyway.
