This is a podcast. http://www.thesteamcast.com/episodes/47/ (starts around 2:00) Here are the questions and the answers: http://www.thesteamcast.com/episodes/47/episode47transcript.pdf This is Part one of questions. I'm not going to bother copy/pasting the questions/answers in this thread, just view the .pdf. Here are the questions: [release]Chrome235: 'Mr. Newell, In the past you spoke about using biometrics to measure players' physical/ emotional responses to a game. Would this technology only apply to play-testing in order to help better design the game, or would it be something that all players would be able to use? If it became an option for all players, how do you see this technology being integrated into a non-intrusive piece of hardware?' Vic: 'Will you ever, ever return to Prospero?' Born Acid: 'What was the last game that scared you? Furthermore, has a game ever made you cry? Half-Life 2: Episode Two hits me in a strong way and I know I am not the only one.' redBadger: 'What was one of the biggest challenges you and the other developers at Valve faced when designing Portal 2? Was that challenge ever accomplished? Is there something you wanted in the final product that could not be achieved for whatever reason?' Lugaloco: 'Has Valve made any strides in signing technology for deaf people for their upcoming games or has there been any development of the idea at all? Last time I saw any news on the subject was back in 2009 watching some youtube videos of you (Gabe) having a discussion with deaf gamers. Killsmith: 'Valve has to be aware of the graphical bugs with the recent Half-Life 2/ Episode One engine update: everything from screwed up skyboxes to missing facial animations to strange pseudo-HDR behavior. Will you guys be fixing these issues and when? We would like to play HL2 and the episodes again in their full glory before you release Episode 3 next month.' Flamov: 'In the previous interview you said that you would be interested in creating developer commentaries for Half-Life. Is this still being considered for a possible future endeavor?' MasterGir: 'Will Valve ever update the Source SDK, specifically Hammer?' Mama Luigi: 'What is your favorite memory of working on Half Life 2?' Steven W.: 'What do you take into consideration when looking at a resume and hiring someone at Valve?' Zable: 'Are you able to give us an insight into what Valve has learnt from their recent endeavors into experimental psychology, such as the use of EEGs or heart-beat monitors?' Niall M. C.: 'Is the incoming release of DOTA 2 a sign that you feel that you are ready to move on to concepts out side of first person genres and is there a chance that there will be more titles coming from Valve in the future that explore other genres?' ThatoneJeff: 'Would Valve be interested in using facial animation technology similar to that of LA Noire. Or would you rather stick to manual animation.' Alex M.: 'How do you think a good workplace ethic like at Valve helps to engage developers and artists when making a new game?' Norek: 'You recently started using other kinds of media (comics, videos, short movies) in order to provide an opportunity for us to explore the fictional universe of your games or promote an upcoming piece of gaming material (DLC, update, etc). Are you willing to expand further in different media by creating something entirely original that is not connected to your previous games in any way, or you would rather prefer to keep such materials strictly game-related, serving as just an additional content to something that's already established and well-known among the community?' Boff: 'Have you or any other Valve members, been lurking on forums under a pseudo name. Have they started flame wars antagonizing regulars?'[/release]
When does Part 2 come out? Are they going to ask Gabe if he is still working on Ep. 3?
They avoided questions about Episode 3. I think part two comes out the 11th
I read it in his voice.
Nobody believed me when I said Valve was working on a submarine simulator.
Good read.
I read it in his voice.
I'm listening to it in his voice :smug:
Shoulda asked him for a burger
Gabe is awesome.

If they're gonna update the SDK tools, they better do it right :ohdear:
Saying episode 3 to Gabe leaves him in that no comment state
*breath*
Too lazy to download the pdf.

:foxnews: Terrorist funding company Valve Software wants to implant electronics in your children's heads ! More at eleven ! :foxnews:
I'm happy people are getting answers on these TF2 transaction topics, it's so annoying to have people spew bullshit about it. [editline]9th February 2011[/editline]
I'm listening to it in his voice :smug:
would you kindly upload this?
Saying episode 3 to Gabe leaves him in that no comment state
If he ever releases, with the legacy that's supposed to be following it, I'd want to keep it a surprise and very suspicious. [editline]9th February 2011[/editline] Newell: (laughs) I think most of everybody at Valve has been, in their own lives, through so many flame wars that the thrill is gone. We’re all relatively sophisticated consumers of the internet, plus it’s way more fun to troll your own colleagues (laugh) than it is to mess with people’s heads outside of the company. Oh God Gabe, aahahhaha

Yes, Gabe. Tell me about my arousal state.

Gabe Newell puts me in a relatively high arousal state.
