Steam says i don't have L4D installed, but i can still play it...

According to steam, i don't have L4D, but if i go into program files\ blah blah blah \Left 4 Dead and click on the .exe, it runs, and i can play it.
I recently got a PC in my room, so i copied all my steam game stuff from my downstairs PC, so i have L4D on my PC in my room.
What will happen if i install it? (Which i won't, because it will pointlessy waste my bandwidth)
And will this affect anything to do with the game?
Thanks in advance.
This happened when I moved to Win7, everything was at "Update Paused", I resumed update then it set itself immediately to 100% - Ready. Installing it will probaly not do anything but add it to your Installed list.

If you're using the same Steam account from the one you had before you got the PC in your room, then installing it would allow you to play online and with friends.
If you just copied the files over (Which is stupid as fuck) then you won't be able to play online.

Lol. I copied the files AND installed steam on the computer. Better?
click "install" it should detect the game files in your steamapps and start at 99% or even 100% percent downloaded. That's how i got my TF2 .gcfs from a friend (although mine started at 98%)
