My thoughts were evoked recently when someone asked me what I though the most incredible city was I had ever viewed, and being a nerdy dumb ass, the only places I could think of were they places I had visited in games.
I immediately thought of Rapture, from Bioshock, purely because of the sheer uniqueness in the city's design.

So, what is the most incredible/memorable/inspiring/other fancy word city in gaming in your opinion?
Easily GTAIV, it's probably the only "alive" city I've seen
yeah, liberty city. I could spend hours just walking around listening and watching the people.
but I prefer running them over.
and then I think about their family :ohdear:

Are you joking? I mean it's a big and decent looking city but the city on the Xbox felt so dead. It wasn't until I bumped up the population on the PC version.
I dig Rapture for the art direction.
Liberty City for the 'aliveness' of it.
GTAIV
I don't care how many disagrees you got but I have to agree with you here.
While I've been in a city setting in a lot of games, GTA IV is the only one which actually felt alive and had the atmosphere for me.
I mean I liked Rapture because of it's setting and how good it looked but it didn't feel like a city to me.
The only game I can think of that has an actual City and atmosphere of one is GTA4, Just the Randomness of people and their numerous activities Make it feel more alive than the next best thing
Besides, what other game can you follow someone around until they get hit by a car, completely on an 'accident' ? And then have an ambulance run in and revive him
And then hijack the ambulance after he gets in, and drive it off a cliff
Muaahahaha Muaahahaa

or kill someone in front of an atm. the paramedics come, use the atm then leave, without ever touching the guy you shot.
Rapture.

Yep there were so many car jams it was just like real New York.
Zanarkand in FFX, Pre-Sin
gotdamnit that looked fucking amazing.
City 17
Any of the Grand Theft Auto's.
Hitman also had some good ones.
West London (Killing Floor)
I like Vault City
Other than GTAIV, the cities in Assassins Creed were pretty fun to run around in and stuff.
Megaton

I liked Fallout 3's The Wasteland seeing as I live in Maryland and a lot of the places in the game I have been too. And it was interesting seeing them a different way, also I live 5 miles from Solomons island and it was not a accurate description of the island. The real Island is very small and you can swim to it from the mainland its like a a quarter of a mile.
I dug the Imperial City when I first got Oblivion. Of course, by today's standards it's pretty repetitive and lifeless but back in 2006 it seemed like a real bustling center of trade and business, at least to me.
Mar Sarah.
It's not out yet, but Mafia II's city looks alive. In a gameplay video, I've seen the player being 'alomst' assaulted by muggers, two men arguing over a car crash, police chasing someone, the police ticketing someone, and that's about it.
I cannot wait for that game. Getting it the first day, I hope.

If you don't recognise this, you've started gaming late, and hasn't even catched up.
I would have to say GTA IV for being so realistic, and, as previously stated, City 17. Just because of the nostalgia factor, and the whole story around it.
Empire City from infamous. It was so dark (theme) and the ambient was definitely weird. And the amount of detail in the game.....hot damn. Sure the game didn't have cutting edge graphics but the game still looked amazing in my opinion. Shit I actually feel like playing it right now.
Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto 4 was also pretty god damn amazing. I've never been to new york, but from seeing what I have from photos and movies, the game does well to replicate most of new york's theme. What I thought did the finishing touch for the game was the weather effects, before turning night time the Major blue effect the city would get was incredible, or how when it rained the city's lights would reflect on the wet concrete. So beautiful. Man I wish my GTA4 disk never broke.
Mmm....forgot about the classics, Fallout, Fallout 2.

...What? No. No no no...ugh.
