I am very pleased this morning to announce that there will be a Mass Effect movie made by the fine folks at Legenday Pictures! I know there has been a lot of speculation amongst our fans ever since Mass Effect 1 came out as to whether or not there would be a movie, who should star in it, who would direct, would there be a Wrex sized bucket of popcorn, etc and I can now reveal that, yes, there will be a movie (popcorn deal is still unconfirmed. Legendary Pictures, the studio behind great films such as The Dark Knight, Watchmen, The Hangover and 300 have picked up the rights to make Mass Effect. Legendary Pictures will produce with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni along with Avi Arad (who has been behind great films like Iron Man, X-Men and Spider-Man). From BioWare Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuck and Casey Hudson will serve as executive producers. "At BioWare, we’ve always thought of Mass Effect as having the depth, emotion and plot twists perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture,” said Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series. “With Avi Arad and Legendary attached, we believe that the Mass Effect movie will be an extraordinary entertainment event that realizes our vision for the franchise and thrills fans.” I am super psyched for this and look forward to seeing the Mass Effect movie take shape. Is it too early to buy tickets?
http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/129/index/2717410 DO. FUCKING. WANT.
:haw:
Oh wow. I'm excited.
I'm suprised this didn't turn up on the forums any sooner. It has been on the Mass Effect news page for days. And Valve actually tends to be pretty slow with their updates.
Urgh not another thread for this shit. Look here: just because someone buys the rights to a video game movie (which probably costs about $5 considering it happens every damn day and some dolt has to go and make a thread or three about it) does not mean that "omgomg movee iz coomin out guyz!". Even if they say its in production, I still highly doubt anything will come of this. Remember that series that is, what, the second most popular video game series of all time? Halo I think it's called. They couldn't even managed to make that into a film. The Metal Gear Solid movie has been "in production" for about three years now. Stop creaming yourselves and settle down. People overreact over video-game news worse than people overreacting about hollow Korean threats.
Sweet. I really hope it's animated as stated.
I think it'll have to have at least some CGI or something, mainly due to Wrex.

Interesting...
What a buzzkill :P
Don't get me wrong - a Mass Effect movie would be... interesting. I'd happily watch it and I wish these guys the very best of luck in making their film. It would probably turn out like trash anyway but hey it'll make money and that's what counts. But seriously I doubt it's gonna happen.
I have a great idea. Make Garrus the main character, using CG to create him and the same guy to do his voice. Do the same with Tali.

That's it I'll go camp out right now.
They should make it the same way Beowulf was made
I hope they have actual actors. Not total animation.
They release 4 movies: Renegade Male Shepard movie, Paragon Male Shepard movie, Renegade Female Shepard movie, Paragon Female Shepard movie In reality: Paragon Male Shepard movie.
If it were total animation... that just screams "straight to DVD" to me. If it were total animation I don't see the benefit of a film over just watching all the conversations and cutscenes from the game played in sequence.

Mass effect deserves the blockbuster treatment.
Why?
I don't want it to beat Star Trek 2...
They should make it the same way Beowulf was made
I like this idea. I also think they should make it about the "first contact war" or something where Shepard wasn't involved.
I think it should serve as an "introduction" to the series set before ME1 starts, just to explain things a little more for those that can't follow the story in the games too well.
No Shepard would be preferred, Shepard is the game territory. I'd wager that the movie if it ever comes out will be a prequel to ME1.
As long as it only mentions Shepard a few times there really shouldn't be a problem if you ask me.
like the Halo live action movie and tons of other game movies,it's either gonna be "vaporware" or complete shit with some rare exceptions
"Hey Garrus, let's-" "Not now Shepard, I'm in the middle of some calibrations." "I should go." "Hey, Zaeed, let's-" "Don't touch that gun. It's older than you. I used her for a long time and she kicked everyone's ass who came against her." "Thanks for the story Zaeed, it really inspired me." "Hey Jack le-" "Fuck off." "I should go."
And see some obvious matrix-slowmo style trailer to hype the viewers expectations. Pink should play as Jack. Good role for her even no matter how she is a attention whore in real life. Wrong choice though. Better pick Milla Jovovich, she'll sound better when she says fuck off to Shepard when the threesome become full circle. Miranda as you know who, whether or not she may play the same person she voiced and that dat black hair. Another choice is another Australian actress. Garrus as I don't know. Wrex as Shepard.Wrex.Shepard.Wrex. Jk. Actually he'll be all CG. Voiced maybe by the same voice actor. Mordin as I don't know yet. Saren as I don't know yet. Though, this will be based around the first game.
They should make it the same way Beowulf was made
Or Final Fantasy.
Don't get too excited for it. It'll probably meet the same fate as bioshock and halo did.
It can't be about Shepard, the whole point of the game is to shape him/her how you want. It could even be about how the humans found the Prothean tech on Mars, or like the other person said the First Contact war. But, it'll probably be about Shepard.
