I have a question: I have purchased Battlefield 2 (not Bad Company 2, not that it would make a difference law wise) but have misplaced the first disc and want to reinstall it. Would it be legal to pirate it (as I own it) and use my legit CD-key?
Also, would that actually WORK for playing online and the like?
Probably not as by torrenting it you're also uploading to other people. It would probably work though.
Illegal? Yes.
Punishable? Highly doubtful.

he didn't say anything about torrenting
Technically, no.
You can buy Bf2 on steam i believe retrieve the game there and activate it. It might just work.
just do it, you own the game.
Yes, it's illegal, but no one is going to get you for it.
In theory what you buy is the serial code so I shouldn't be ilegal but you are downloading a game that you can pay in stores so is ilegal.

Not really. Making a box and manual and discs costs money and you pay for that too.

But you arent pirating that arent you?
Surprised that this thread has survived this long.
It is illegal. Do what the person above me linked to.
I should think it wouldn't be. To be on the safe side, though, I would go to the link supplied by Glent.
It's illegal as most people in this thread have already established.
If you live in Spain it's fine, otherwise, I think not.

You answered it yourself. Piracy is illegal.
Alright, that clarifys things. I'll try that link once I find my instruction manual :ohdear:
well piracy IS illegal
but in that case,i don't know
If you don't seed, you should be fine.
I believe this falls into the Grey Area of piracy law.
In many countries, it is legal to make backup copies of any media you own, BUT, some countries then have additional laws that don't allow circumvention of copy protection (like the US's DMCA). Also, most EULAs do NOT allow you to make a copy of the game, even though government copyright law gives you that right.
It's a pretty nasty grey area. In some very media concious countries, like France and the USA, the EULA has been trumping people's rights. In less media concious countries, like Canada, the law allows circumvention of copy protection AND backup copies, as long as you legally purchased said media. (If anything, this should speak volumes of the power of lobbyists)
Well, yay. I live in Canada.
I don't know if I'm right, but can't BF2 NOT be downloaded off the EA Downloader? I just tried, said I couldn't.
Illegal but, in your case, justified. Don't get a cracked version, though. The 1.5 patch already removes the need for a CD in the drive.
It's legal because you already own it. Thus you are technically aloud to download and play the game as you have already bought it.

Canada doesn't really give a shit about piracy anyway.

Only people who actually sell pirated stuff for money can expect to go to jail.
Just get it. People around here have a stick up their asses about piracy regardless of the situation.
You already bought the game, you're fine. But using that EA activation thing that someone posted previously would be the better course of action. VAC likes to shit on anything that even looks modified.
