Well I was browsing the Armed Assault section and saw the thread about people's battle stories and some of them were quite epic. Unfortunately the thread was short lived because the ArmA section got locked. With Operation Arrowhead just around the corner, I think it's time for another thread. Earlier today myself and two friends were mucking around with a mission one of them made in the ArmA 1 editor. Myself and one other were tasked with attacking and capturing the city of Paraiso, we had 4 MI-17s full of AI at our disposal. My other friend (who made the mission) was BLUFOR and was defending Paraiso. I was flying the Helo filled with Spec ops and I was to enter the town from the South while my friend and his 3 helos attacked from the east. We took off but I fell behind as I turned onto my approach vector. I was about a minute out when my friend's helos entered the town, but he said that the town was empty, save for a jeep he saw exiting the town. I was about to respond when my screen went white as the fucking nuke he left behind exploded and flattened the town. Far in the distance I could see friendly helos become engulfed in the fireball. One of them turned to fly away (presumably my friend's) but he too was caught in the explosion, his chopper swatted from the sky like a fly. When the mushroom cloud cleared, there was nothing left. All of the buildings were gone, but I could see the smoke plume from the Helo crash site. Just then something hit my chopper hard and we began falling from the sky. I bailed and pulled my chute and drifted onto a cliff face as my chopper slammed into the side of the mountain. I was the only survivor out of 64 men. I began walking away when I saw headlights rushing towards me. It was my other friend in a humvee, he got out and told me to drop my guns and come with him. I was made to walk in shame to the next town where he made me line up on a bridge and shot me point blank in the back, and thus the mission was over...
This one time I was playing the Arma II demo with iPope, we ran around some forest and suddenly I heard gun firing and died. We retried a few times (6, maybe) but the result was always the same. We got shot and I had no clue where the enemies were. One time I saw a tank though, I shot it with a rocket launcher. Then I died again.
I was playing on some Co-op thing and there was this town that none of us could seem to take, so I was like fuck this and grabbed a sniper rifle. I ended up clearing the town of about 15 guys.
I was flying with the 386th before, a massive assault, back when we had a 200 $ dollar server and 50 people on, remember when 50 men landed in a forest, a bmp started supressing us, artillery started firing and within seconds 40 men were dead, and 10 men were running around trying to revive people, still under fire from the bmp and artillery landing everywhere, that was amazing.
1) I enter a transport helicopter, some asshat takes the chopper and crashes it. 2) Everyone just go in different directions without any plans It sucks to play on public servers, but I don't have a mic = No organized ArmA 2 gameplay for me.
I was on an empty server flying around a C130 (yes I am a sad person) on nighttime. I was going for the grassy airstrip on the east, I saw lights and assumed it was the runway. As I got closer I noticed the runway was on my right and those lights were the traffic lights of the road running parallel to the runway. I somehow managed to land it on something and when I stepped out I saw I landed on top of the trees next to the road.

Was attacking an USMC convoy as Russia on Thirsk. Me and my squad opened fire as a truck turned the corner, that went well. Up till a LAV let rip on our treeline with it's cannon. A squad of 12 went down to a single man in seconds. Wounded and bleeding I called for a Medevac. Both Helos were en route. I crawled through the trees until I found a tiny clearing and I popped smoke, the smoke attracted the attention of a US Section in a UH-1. Thinking the smoke was friendly it closed to land. I took a chance and popped a HE Grenade into the side and it sped out of sight. Knowing a medevac was here I Popped a flare. The pilot of the Mi-8 landed skillfully in the clearing and I got on board. Less than ten seconds after moving away from the clearing. A squeal rang from the forest and I knew the Venom had ambushed us. A burst from the left of the Chopper took out our tail rotor and sent the chopper down. The pilot kept it up long enough for me to heal. Another squeal and the medic on board now saw it a good time to die, the pilot shouted BAIL! over TS and we Jumped over hostile territory, landing on the road I saw a Hummer stop and I decided to surrender, hands up behind my head. He didn't take pity. I knew the M240 had fired as my Team Leader body fell to the ground.
Not much of a battle story, but whenever I manage to get an illegal gun in Chernarus Life I end up leaving a tail of tears and rage behind me. I mean, things just spiral out of control. First, a cop shoots at me because he thinks I'm going to kill him. So, I shoot the cop. The cop calls for backup. The next thing I know I've lost the original gun, I've picked up two more from dead bodies and I'm barreling into town with the entire police force on my tail in a stolen car that's been rigged to explode. Shit's craaaaazy.
I was playing a custom mission in ArmA II. I spawned, got instantly shot. Retried, got to a tower, got shot from across the map. Retried, got to a tower and sniped a few enemies. As I climbed down I got shot from across the map. Spawned in a town, got shot from across the map. ArmA II produces such thrilling battles.
sounds like fade's kicking in for you.
Fade?
Fade?
BIS' own DRM solution. It does things like making it impossible to aim accurately, giving the AI supermen eyes and a bunch of other stuff if it thinks that you're running a pirated copy.
500 sandbags, 1 hour, 300 soviets, and not enough ammunition
Me and about 40 other guys were doing a WW2 trench warfare mission I made. At first we shelled eachother with mortar fire and took potshots. Then we decided to charge. They had a machinegun set up on the far left, it killed most of the guys on that side. A mortar round landed and killed a few guys. Me and about 5 guys took the far right of the trench, and successfully took the trench. Little did we know, that the enemy was counter charging from a trench far behind us. I killed something like 3 of them, and they killed 2 of us, and we surrendered. When our team respawned we had a prisoner exchange, but as they were walking into no-mans-land to negotiate, we mowed them down with machineguns. Me and my friends escaped, one was shot and another wounded. I managed to steal a MP-40 from a body and kill 2 before I was killed. We suppressed them with lots of fire, and mortared them. When the survivors emerged to surrender, we made them stand on a cliff. We made them jump off, then we fired rockets into the sea where they landed to make sure they were dead. We won.
100 allied paratroopers dropped into enemy territory to destroy enemy artillery. Despite the enemy forces knowing we were coming, all artillery pieces were disabled, and all enemy AA guns in the area silenced at dawn. 88 brave mates died that night, half of them before even touching ground. Only me and a small band of lone wolves were left as the sun rised. We met up and proceeded to our next objective; the enemy-held airfield way up north. It was to be secured within 2 days, before the main land invasion along the beaches. By foot and car, we travelled miles across country, while evading enemy patrols. Sadly, another 9 guys died on the way (enemy patrols in almost every forest throughout the land caused many bloody firefights). We were only 3 guys left by the time we had our objective within view. Knowing we could not possibly secure the airfield by ourselves, we decided to simply neutralize all enemy aircraft and supply dumps. We split up and headed for each our targets. My friend Sirius went for the weapons cache in the hangar and planted charges. He was a unlucky bastard. Enemy patrols decided it was time to check the hangar just as he was about to get out. They spotted him and started firing. Unable to escape, Sirius detonated the charge with himself right ontop of it, causing a huge chain reaction through several convoys of ammo trucks parked outside. After the incident, the alarm was raised. Enourmous amounts of russian troops scrambled to the airfield and started to search every nook and cranny. My other friend had gone for the enemy bombers. He had planted C4 on every single plane besides 1, which he decided to steal. - Meanwhile; I had just taken out the russian commander in the command tent, and was making my way back to my surviving mate. We decided that our only chance of escape was to use that plane and fly off, but for that we would need a massive distraction. So, we detonate all the enemy planes and i sprint across the grass towards the plane which is pulling out into the airstrip. Just as i was about to jump in, the plane takes a direct hit from a anti-tank rocket and explodes. I was all alone, in the middle of an enemy airfield with absolutely no cover besides a plane wreck. I throw down a smoke grenade, walk out from the plane's cover and lay down 2 clips worth of fire aswell as 2 HE grenades. A glorious way to go. 100 brave soldiers died during this operation, but the mission was a success. 2 days later, allied forces stormed the beaches all along the coasts with great success, due to enemy bombers and artillery being out of effect.
What server do you play on holy shit.
That was just on my own server, playing my own mission with a couple of mates. This particular playthrough is quite a while ago. Havn't played the game in a while.
alone. [editline]11:50PM[/editline] god damn ninja
Ambush mission in a jungle (was a campaign style setup, players vs players and players + AI for larger battles and campaign movements). One of the best single PvP battles I've ever played, and the group has disbanded since :(. I was team leader, team was 5 guys including me. I ordered to set up a linear ambush with claymores on the edge facing slightly inwards to maximize effect. Intel suggested the "fighter" (we were facing off against Molatia irregulars/unconventional/insurgents) group was a small group of 5-10 men. It was night, but the moon was giving semi decent visibility until it went down about 10 minutes later, then a storm kicked in, heavy rains started which destroyed visibility so we switched to NVGs. Overall we waited about 20 minutes real time, wondering where the fuck these dudes where, when my scout reported movement. The fucking hairs on my balls stood up. We were all prone lieing among the brush, ready to fire. They were also using a foward scout it seemed, so I told everyone to hold their fire until the main body got it the kill zone. The foward scout didn't seem cautious, but he was using good protcol. He took a knee and scanned the area ahead before getting back up and walking again. Then we saw the rest (we thought anyway..) of the group come foward, counting 6 more guys. The scout was getting awful close (at least by our standards) and one of my guys was bitching. The other 6 molatians were in the kill zone, so I said over voip "light em the fuck up!". crack-BOOM, crack-BOOM, crack-BOOM, the sound of the claymores going off in succession, then followed the rapid fire cracks and pops of our rifles and our MG. Red tracers were tearing through the night jungle and the claymores had kicked up huge dust clouds, it was brilliant. Then the return fire came and we shit ourselves, the dust clouds from the claymores died down and we saw that that group of 6 seemed to have multiplied. Intel we had was wrong, the fighter group was actually about 20 guys, and we had only managed to kill 3 seemingly. The return fire was vicious and they obviously wanted to pin us - I knew what was going to happen next; closing in on our flanks. We needed to GTFO and break contact fast, as we were seriously outgunned, so I ordered the team to start a center peel (side note: I had a little concern with this tactic, as we had only practiced it two or three times before the campaign). Our scout peeled first, and we were plenty liberal with our suppressive fire, and we chucked smoke everywhere, this was fucking AWESOME, red and green-yellow tracers back and forth, explosions going off and smoke pluming in the jungle. I was second in the peel, and dropped back immediately when i heard the first man was firm, then I called for the next man. Our center peel was going far better than I expected, third man peeled, MG peeled, then our 5th man was a little slow, but he got back, and of course we were back to square one with the point peeling again. We had got some decent distance between us and the enemy, but it was on this peel that we took our first casualty. 3rd man went down, but I needed a hasty plan so we didn't all share his fate. I ordered the scout to place down a satchel charge while I grabbed the 3rd man. I scooted fowards in prone till I got to him and then I started dragging him back, firing off totally inaccurate rounds (<3 ACE2). When I felt we had enough room, I started patching him up, and we got him back up. I told the foward scout to hide under that bush, while we ran. He did, and he knew what I wanted to do. A few seconds of running later, we heard a massive explosion and a drawn out cackling over voip, the foward scout had nailed most of them with the satchel charge and was running back to join us. As we got out to a clearing however, shit got real. Fuckers had a quick reaction force of 3 technicals, and they lit us up as we came out of the jungle. We all fucking died. Fission Mailed.
Not so much a 'battle' but I was once driving a truck through a forest (ArmA 1) which was full of troops and was ambushed by a group of enemies hiding around a corner. A burst of rifle fire hit the truck, then another - one hit me in the chest. I was badly hurt and could hear the soldiers jumping from the back, but if I'd tried to run to cover myself I'd have been cut down since the enemies were directly in front of the truck. Gunfire was now coming from both directions and I was bleeding heavily. I briefly lost consciousness and was sure I was going to die, but woke up and fell back again a few more times before another enemy round finished me off. I was reminded of this because I screenshotted it because of how... Atmospheric it was.

I was playing the demo today (I'm waiting for Operation Flashpoint to get it) and we're playing this big mission where you gotta kill of many hostiles. We eliminate this small town and are heading up a hill when the ONE GUY LEFT throws a grenade and kills the squad leader, the corpsman, and me the AT specialist. The people that were left had no idea where they were and ran up the hill, only to be ambushed by a different squad. We then tried the mission again, and the same exact guy in the same exact place took out the squad leader and the corpsman AGAIN. Me and 2 other guys were left, and I was already on my way to that spot.. sure enough I found the guy before he found me.. Then of course my teammates died, and me following, but I took out 3 guys with an RPG.
makol and I are having a battle in progress oh shit
this won't end well... [editline]10:10PM[/editline] I got killed :saddowns:
me too
I wish I had the money to buy ArmA II :saddowns: I wish it would drop price too.
Playing as NAPA in an enormous beach invasion mission i made, probably 1000 AI at the same time fighting. Took forever to get balanced the battle so no one wins in five seconds, by the way. Anyway, was going in in the early hours as the USMC and Chedaki guns were blazing, and disabled some Tungustas and AA trucks. At one point, i must'ave done something wrong, cause all the chedaki army suddenly knew of my position, that's a good 380 men shooting at me. I died fairly fast.
