How many hours of gameplay will I get from this game if I buy the GOTY edition and install the major mods? Can I also get the other small DLCs for free? Thanks Facepunch! I'll be sure to save the sweetroll for you guys.
A lot. [editline]03:39PM[/editline] No really. A lot. I have over 100 hours logged.
goty comes with the dlc's. and you'll get at least 100 hours.
If you're getting it on the console, then a good 75 - 100 hours, all depending on your play style and how many characters you make. If you buy it for the PC, then a lot more because you can download community-made mods. [editline]06:42PM[/editline]
A lot. [editline]03:39PM[/editline] No really. I hope you're getting it for PC. We're talking hundreds of hours of gameplay.
With the GotY edition, you can spend plenty of time. I know a friend who put over 150 hours into it during a summer vacation a few years ago. The main quest is between 20 and 30 hours if you don't die much. Then there's about 80 hours of side-quests from the default game. Then there's about 30 more hours of quests from all the DLC.
And lot's of hours of free roaming.
I loved roaming around trying to harvest my own Alchemy Ingrediants all the time but then I was banned from towns because a guy attacked me, I attacked him back, and was done for murder
Hundreds of hours, you could easily replay the game 2-5 times on vanilla. With mods, you could spend forever playing it.
We're talking 10 maybe 15 hours tops. Do yourself a favor and buy like Spiderman 3. (User was banned for this post ("Why Reply?" - RayvenQ))
How do you get the other DLC such as the Horse armor ( LOL?) or is that also included cause all the info I saw on the box from Fry's was only Shivering isles and Knights of the Nine. Yes, I'm getting on the PC I mean who wouldn't want nude companions fighting demons (is that what they are called or do we even get companions? Too much Fallout.) EDIT: HEARTS FOR ALL
I've racked up over 1000 hours.
You can get companions from mods.
Also, if you get bored of hills hills and more hills you can download additional areas. Such as a desert, it looks pretty cool, but it isn't finished fully yet I think. So I'm holding off getting it. Oh and look for the Guard overhaul mod. It changes the way the AI works. If you get chased out of one town, it could take days or weeks for another to know about this, so the guards there will ignore you until they hear about your crime.
I would say so, yes. It's one of those games that you can come back to and experience a whole new game totally modified by the modifications out there. The community has made countless mods, many of which are top-notch quality. I myself have gotten at least 150 hours out of it (Well, I realize that's not very high but...) If you haven't played Morrowind yet, I recommend you also give that a try. I found it much more engaging than Oblivion, but they both have their ups and downs. If I were you, I'd buy both Oblivion GOTY and Morrowind GOTY :D, they are quite cheap nowadays; check out Ebay and Amazon for the lowest prices.
I spent about 30 hours on it, and then got bored. Sure, there's enough content to let you play for a lot longer, but it didn't really hook me that well. The environments were dull and relatively safe and uninteresting with all the monsters being levelled to you and the incredibly bland Tolkein rip-off fantasy. The combat is dull, the voice acting is dire, the skill gain doesn't yield any particularly interesting rewards and it is atmospheric as a toothpick, in particular now considering how badly the graphics have dated already. If you are looking for open ended RPGing, I would seriously recommend taking one of Bethesda's other offerings; Morrowind is fucking brilliant, and Fallout 3 is Oblivion with character and decent combat, or possibly Mount & Blade. Alternatively, you could go for something even more different, but still an open ended RPG if that's what you are looking for, such as the original Fallout games, or the incredibly brilliant Freelancer. Having said that, many of my complaints about Oblivion's lack of atmosphere or character are negated by the Shivering Isles, which is both atmospheric and characterful, but there isn't that much to it; it isn't very long. Sorry if I'm a bit off topic, just sharing my opinion.

But much of what you have said can and has been fixed by mods. But alas, I agree that a person should not have to necessarily download mods in order to have the best first-time playing experience. I also like that you mentioned Morrowind and Fallout 3 as good games, I whole-heartedly agree.

shit you spend forever on it

It has lots of gameplay time, the main mission, as said before, has about 30 hours in total. www.tesnexus.com is where you can find lots of mods for weapons, armors, spells, and such.
I'm finished, I've been playing occasionlly since release, And I have 500 hours.
When I played oblivion, I spent over 600 hours in vanila. Even longer with mods. I think I spent over 1700 hours playing oblivion when I stopped.
Could you direct me to some of these mods? The good ones.
Well, here are the "must-have-mods" list: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Must_Have_Mods All of those are high quality mods that have had work put over them for a long time. Especially Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, which truly makes Oblivion shine. Check some of them out, they are all different and make Oblivion a better game.
Oblivion is not complete without FCOM.
Could you direct me to some of these mods? The good ones.
Yeah, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul ( OOO ) removes the monsters leveling with you thin,g which greatly improves the game. Also, Reneer's Guard Overhaul is a good one for thieves and the like, as well as Thieve's Arsenal, although it can be somewhat glitchy at times.
I've spent thousands of hours in Oblivion, my average character lasts 150 hours and it's not until recently I've gotten big overhaul mods.
shit you spend forever on it
This is pretty much currect for me, it has endless playability (or atleast till the next is released :v:).
get all the mods you can then let them conflict not allowing you to play and then begin to go on a 12 hour struggle to figure out what mods don't work together or something or whats bugged shit shit shit jk lol!
I just checked my total time. 90 hours. And I haven't had SI working for it.
If I can run Fallout 3 on medium-low settings without it crashing constantly (outside of some spots like in caves), I should be able to run this fine, Right?
