Link:http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity Obsidian Entertainment and our legendary game designers Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer are excited to bring you a new role-playing game for the PC. Project Eternity (working title) pays homage to the great Infinity Engine games of years past: Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. Project Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPGs that we enjoyed making - and playing. At Obsidian, we have the people responsible for many of those classic games and we want to bring those games back… and that’s why we’re here - we need your help to make it a reality! Project Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment. Combat uses a tactical real-time with pause system - positioning your party and coordinating attacks and abilities is one of the keys to success. The world map is dotted with unique locations and wilderness ripe for exploration and questing. You’ll create your own character and collect companions along the way – taking him or her not just through this story, but, with your continued support, through future adventures. You will engage in dialogues that are deep, and offer many choices to determine the fate of you and your party. …and you'll experience a story that explores mature themes and presents you with complex, difficult choices to shape how your story plays out. We are excited at this chance to create something new, yet reminiscent of those great games and we want you to be a part of it as well. Oh and here's the world map: We have wanted to go back to our roots and create an epic PC role-playing game adventure for years. But, it's been almost impossible to get funding through traditional methods for a game like this. The great thing about Kickstarter is that we can go directly to the people who love to play RPGs as much as we love to make them. Plus, we don’t have to make compromises with a publisher. We make the development decisions, we market the game, and we don't have to answer to anyone but you – our fans. Our relationship with you can be even closer with Kickstarter. We can be more transparent with development and give you an inside look to what goes on day-to-day with the programmers, artists, and designers of Project Eternity. We want to give you a behind the scenes look at the game's development, and we have fun stuff planned like developer blogs, web broadcasts, dev chats, and much, much more. Time to play Baldurs Gate again in preperation for this.
The second I heard the music in that video, I was sold.
Please get finished, Obsidian makes great games.
I wonder if this is going to be anything like that one game they were talking about were the main bad guy had already one and you were just trying to survive.
donated 35 bucks right away
Kickstarter sure has done its part for the game industry. Fan favourites are shaping up, and not with the help of greedy CEO's, but gamers themselves.
Holy shit it's already in 800,000.
How is it going this fast, I've seen nobody talking about it anywhere to extent Plantary Annihilation was.
Remember that Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition comes out in a couple days. It is a very good time for returning to the classics.
They're gonna have a couple of millions by the end of this kickstarter holy shit [editline]15th September 2012[/editline] Wont be surprised if it becomes the most funded ever
I haven't played any of the games they say it's inspired by and the way they've described the combat reminds me of the system in KOTOR and Dragon Age, which I did not like. Is this still something I should be interested in? I've heard Baldur's Gate likened to Diablo 2, if at the very least in the impact it's had on western RPGs and they were released at the same time. I feel like I should be excited for it, but I just don't know.

It's apparently trending towards $12 million.

So they're $7 each.
In a just world Bioware would be liquidated and all of it's assets and properties would be given to Obsidian. It's amazing how a group of people can stay in a business for so long and remain the absolute best at storytelling.
I don't think I've ever seen a project get this much funding this quickly.
900k Christ [editline]15th September 2012[/editline] I'm a bit scared of getting hyped for kickstarters, since you basically put money in to something unknown and the kickstarter-er doesn't have to make a good product as long as it meets the description
This is probably gonna get to a million today.
In a just world Bioware would be liquidated and all of it's assets and properties would be given to Obsidian.
In a perfect world they'd combine their best traits. [editline]16th September 2012[/editline]
This is probably gonna get to a million today.
And two million by the end of the Kickstarter duration.
I think it'll have a loooot more than 2 million by the end.
I'd say after the initial hype dies down, unless something big comes out for the final push, it'll land around 3 million.
So that pretty much confirms that Obsidian won't be doing the next Fallout. :smith: Still, this looks sweet! Oh, and and Good Old Games is having a sale on all these classic RPGs right now, so if this made you want to play through Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate or something, you can grab 'em for a few bucks each.
And two million by the end of the Kickstarter duration.
lol no it's gonna make way more than that with this kind of hype behind it.
They've broken through the 1 Million dollar hurdle. [editline]15th September 2012[/editline] nearly 1.5 mil
lol
Donated $500 I can't wait!
In for $20.
It just got funded 100%
What are they gonna do with all those money? :v: It feels like they are not needing any kickstarter stuff. They could just sell the game straight away I mean.
