I mean Love http://www.quelsolaar.com/love/tool_video.html I think I will enjoy this
Thanks ZomBuster!
This looks amazing. I liked Okami, and many other artsy games... http://www.gametrailers.com/player/41942.html?type=flv The editing tools are cool, and mixed with an MMOFPS, it sounds like a recipe for win.
Love Debut Trailer Love - Developer website. (Also has links and some downloads to the tools he's using to make the game (he also made the tools himself). (Thanks SCopE5000) Sorry about the title, but that's the only thing I can think of putting it as. This isn't very recent news, I think it was in PCG UK a while ago, but I only just remembered about it, and boy I'm glad I did. This game isn't really the usual game, the graphics for one are impressive, but not what you'd be expecting. The enemies you face, the creatures, are all randomly generated, and grow randomly too. Not one should (theoretically) ever be the same. The game is going to be an MMO, but not your standard one. You can go off to explore, kill shit or build settlements (yes build them yourself), but this is where the fun part comes in: It's a sandbox. But not any sandbox you've ever seen. It's nothing like Garry's Mod, and it's much better than the crap Second Life tries to pull. I guess the easiest way to think of it as a different sort of Geomod (which is what reminded me of this game.) PC Gamer, having seen the creator playing around with it, state that:
"The technology behind Love means that the game is editable like nothing we've seen before. Eskil points his mouse at a wall and clicks - then stretches the terrain back and forth, terraforming at will. Then he fires a gun at the side of a wall and it's blown away - digging a cave into the side of a cliff. He then trots through this tunnel, dropping into pastures on the far side.
Excited? You should be. But possibly the best part of the preview is the following, and the one that gets me buzzed the most:
"I sometimes get bored though. I want game development to be fun." He presses a button, and the pouch breaks apart into vector lines. Then a triangular space-ship steams in, under Eskil's control. The art package is gone. All that's left is a game of Asteroids.
Here are some screenshots (I doubt they do the game justice, seeing it in action would probably be leaps and bounds more impressive) and read up on the preview here. GDC08 video: Click me. Quality isn't good because they're recording the guy playing on a laptop with a glossy screen. It looks like a messed up Van Gogh painting
This looks like it'll be made of awesomeness and win. Nice find!
I saw this, I'm pretty hyped.
Ah yes I read about this, however I don't really enjoy the art style, I don't see how it'll look any good in motion. How will the grass (especially the sharp grass shown in the bottom picture) be rendered whilst the player moves around it at different angles.
I've never heard of this before. Looking awesome, though. I also love the 3D painting look of the world.
It looks like a messed up Van Gogh painting
The creator was going for an acryllic/water painting graphical style, and once again, everything can be randomly generated. Edit:
Ah yes I read about this, however I don't really enjoy the art style, I don't see how it'll look any good in motion. How will the grass (especially the sharp grass shown in the bottom picture) be rendered?
No idea, I'm betting the "slap in the face" effect the visuals give may be toned down a bit by release (optimistic: 2009, realistic: 2010), but nevertheless, I can't wait to see it in motion. This developer, this breed of developer, I definitely want to see more of in the game industry.
It does seem pretty cool though, and I'll probably get it. Another worry of mine is the GUI, how will players communicate in game? I can't see speech bubbles above heads because of the style but I also can't see a chatbox anywhere there for the same reason.
anyone know anything else about it?

I'm sort of hoping players will be able to have groups, and within those groups voice-chat can be active, but otherwise the GUI will have to be insanely minimalist, or brilliantly out of this world. I'm praying for the latter.
This looks really good actually. I seriously hope it can live up to what it sets out to do, because then it could be really interesting. I'll keep my eye on this mmo.
anyone know anything else about it?
Currently I think PCG UK was the only one to have any clear interaction with it, I'd try to scan around on Google but you type in "Love" and try to find this game. :v: I'll buzz by their forums, might be something in there, or I'll send them an email asking if there's any more info or a website of his.
Wow, it looks amazing. Seriously, it looks like it's out of someone's dreamscape.
The games website: http://www.quelsolaar.com/love/
I read about this in PCG as well, it looks like it could really shake up the market if it turns out to be what its promised to be.
The games website: http://www.quelsolaar.com/love/
Darn, and I just send an email to Tim asking about it. Thanks anyway. :howdy:
Uh... is it out yet? If not, will it be free? Their site layout is terribly confusing.
The graphic style reminds me of the PS2 game Okami. I like it.
Uh... is it out yet? If not, will it be free? Their site layout is terribly confusing.
Because it's just one person working on it. It won't be free (nice thought, won't happen), the developer will definitely charge for this (and sell like hotcakes) no idea if it's a single payment though. It won't be out for a long while. Edit: Oh wow:
Is sounds like a MMO for girls. Wait. Girls can't be on the internet! What was I thinking?
It looks like shit. Stupid artsy fartsy shit, to be more specific.
I already fell in love with it. It's a bad idea to get hyped over it, though. It's no where complete in the creator's mind. It seems like he's losing hope in having the project work as he plans it. I mean, I'm all for working with it, and playing with verse. Verse is really fun, actually. It's just not the time to hype over. I've researched this quite a lot actually. There are like 3 separate articles around and one video. His blog details little about the game. 1. He will be charging monthly fees for it, at some point. He says that he will use them to run the server and that if it becomes overpopulated, he'll use the extra profits to put up more servers.
It looks like shit. Stupid artsy fartsy shit, to be more specific.
Not everything has to be ultra-realistic to be good.
It looks like shit. Stupid artsy fartsy shit, to be more specific.
Not all games are about blood and violence. You got to give this guy credit for not making yet another game that we've all seen before.
Is sounds like a MMO for girls. Wait. Girls can't be on the internet! What was I thinking?
So every time you say you love something you're a girl?
Can't fucking wait.
Oh, I read about this in PC Gamer. Definitely looks interesting. I'm looking forward to it. :D But looking at the screenshots makes me wonder what it looks like in motion.
Looks very neat. First game I've really looked forward to in a while.
Looks very neat. First game I've really looked forward to in a while.
Haha, I can see why you would like it :v:
Looks like one of those not-so-graphical-yet-addicting games. Maybe if there were a free weekend or something.
