I was reminded of this game in my last thread looking for simulation games. There was a thread on this before, but that was a long time ago and is now unavailable.
Swimbots, or Gene Pool 6, is a game simulating the evolution of adaptation, when a swimbot eats, it gains energy, it then uses that energy to mate and gives some of its energy to its offspring. Then goes off to find more food in a simulated microscope. The faster or more wildly a swimbot moves the faster it loses energy.
You don't create these swimbots. The best way to create one is just hope you get lucky. If you set a pool to a "Random" pool, it randomly spawns a whole bunch of early evolution swimbots, and eventually around the 50,000'th time mark ( or 30 minutes or so) you should see a dominant swimbot.

Anyways, I posted this thread so we could eventually try and do swimbot competitions against each-other, like who has the best species, as you saw on the cracked forum topic there.

No, I genuinely will try it out later, and it does seem pretty cool, but I'm not going to play it at the moment.
I tried this ages ago. I left in on for a week (went on holiday interstate) and came back to see two species going back and forth endlessly trying to beat the other.

Yeah, that happened to me. I have made this Super-Species that I call Blood-Bot, it can clear an entire field in like, less then 5 minutes.

No, if it were like that the entire thing would have to have a prey and predator system, and that would be hard to implement. The cloesest you can have to that is a swimbot the eats everyones food faster then them.
I find any evolution games but Darwinbots and A.I planet MOTHERFUCKING BORING.. I hate waiting for everything to work, and this is just a mating/romance simulator for horny biology students

I love this, mostly i just find a nice starting species (usually worms) spawn 50~ of them with decent food regen and leave it running overnight

I once got this awesome frog like thing, went pretty fast and stable. Ate all food though.
I got some weird rainbow worms goin on. That and seizing green stringy blobs that eat all the food and reproduce with EVERYTHING.

There was a flash game like this only it wasn't top-down view but side view. The bots were only circles and there gained mutations through radiation rays and they could evolve over time to carnivores anyone remeber that?
Since the compo thread in the OP is dead lets have a mini competition here, I'll host, just PM me a design and I'll pit it against someone else's or mine and post pics.
I'd love to have a facepunch competition. Three bouts with three different species for each battle, winner from each bout is then pitted against each other for the true champion.
Make something and send it to me, I've got a bot ready to go and we'll duke it out. It'll be fun, I'll even to commentary and stuff, maybe a stream.

Man, this is fun, Although my "Genes" are really "turned off" they just won't breed, i have to clone them in the end just to keep population going, that is expect my 'still" ones they keep on being really horny.
I have it set as 100% of energy goes to offspring.
