So I just finished Point of View and I found the non-canon background for the vortigaunts very interesting. Most HL1 and 2 mods I find are nothing but mindless shoot 'em ups. Are there any other mods that have interesting stories?

Azure Sheep is a HL1 mod with a good story and what-not.
It's also quite lengthy.
Research and Development, Random Quest, and The Event in Village all have stories and are all good. I ordered them from best to...worst, I guess.
I liked Get a Life.
Research and Developement is highly rated because it was pretty.
Sadly the gameplay is miserable.
