• Can anyone justify EA's new PC Game price tag?

This is seriously pissing me off. I didn't mind when it was just Activison games that I didn't care about, but now EA has raised the prices of their games $10 on the PC as well (to $60). These titles include Crysis 2, Bulletstorm, and Dragon Age 2. I mean well all know (or should know) that console games are more due to the licensing companies have to pay to Microsoft or Sony respectively. But what the fuck is this shit that companies are pulling now on the PC? Ubisoft used to do it too, but it seems Brotherhood will be $50 (maybe because it's a delayed port?). Something tells me games aren't getting THAT much more expensive to make or market that this extra $10 is justified. And in Crysis 2's case, it being "Limited Edition" doesn't mean shit since it's the only option and guaranteed it will be the only option a little while after release as well. I mean I guess they did make a whole new engine for it, but Bulletstorm is Unreal and Dragon Age 2 is probably the same as Origins. Bulletstorm looks like a cool game, but $60 is too much of a turn off. Crysis 2 looks good but again, $60 if too much of a turn off for a game with shit multiplayer (and where the singleplayer is probably alot more linear than the first). And keep in mind this will really start to affect Facepunch when Battlefield 3 rolls around. So economic geniuses of Facepunch, can you explain this bullshit to me? And please don't say "well don't buy it then durr" (well I'm not going to anyway!) or "it's just $10." Or "I'm in Australia and I had to get a second mortgage to pay for one game! You Americans have it easy"
No. It's not justified.
They want more money.
Reminds me of when my high school raised the prices on all lunch items five cents and left 200+ students unable to afford lunch until their parents learned of the change. Their explanation for raising the price was that the district needed more funding to build another Junior High. Like most game publishers/developers, they became money grubbing bastards.
Jesus fuck, 60 dollars is cheap for us Australians. Whinge more, we pay 100 dollars bare minimum for any decent game.
ya but you're australian, so it's not really important
Jesus fuck, 60 dollars is cheap for us Australians. Whinge more, we pay 100 dollars bare minimum for any decent game.
He JUST SAID don't post stuff like that. Can't you READ
Jesus fuck, 60 dollars is cheap for us Australians. Whinge more, we pay 100 dollars bare minimum for any decent game.
Yeah, but that's Australian money nobody cares about.
I'll be missing out on some titles due to this, but of course I'll buy Portal 2 and Battlefield 3, but I don't know about these other games. EA is greedy and barely gives a shit about the PC community. All it's going to do is raise piracy because people can't afford to be paying $60 a pop for all of the games they release this year. It really adds up the more games you buy.
One company does it, and others will follow suit. Danke, Activision.

Besides aren't you guys paying for these titles too?
, but of course I'll buy Portal 2 and Battlefield 3,
Portal 2 isn't $60 though. Infact it's $45 on Amazon AND steam.
You do realize that BF3 will be $60, right?
He's saying that BF3 will be worth it, he's not sure about the others. At least, I think.
Game prices used to be much higher... N64 games used to be $70. Quit whining.
wah I have to pay $10 more :(
Game prices used to be much higher... [img_thumb]http://static.arstechnica.com/gaming/genesiscatalog-inflation-adjusted.jpg[/img_thumb]
Seems like some of those are tough sales at it were since you could go play some (atleast Outrun) for 25 cents are your local arcade. And it's not like those titles sold millions of units.
N64 games used to be $70.
Really? Amazing how you never notice the price of things as a kid :v: Also they were fucking worth it, I miss having that much re-playability.
The competition (Activision) raised the price to 60, so they probably saw that as a chance to do the same.
One word describes all this: Bullshit. Good thing we have companies like Valve, still. And Indie games are just plain awesome. Magicka, Amnesia, Audiosurf, Super Meat Boy, Garry's Mod...
Yeah, but that's Australian money nobody cares about.
The Australian dollar was worth more than the American dollar the other week so yeah try and tell us we dont care about it. Its pretty much exactly the same as the American Dollar now but jumps over from time to time.
UK price is still £30 for all of EA's games. :smug:
It kind of makes me laugh, actually. A lot of Americans are willing to throw out 200+ to buy an iphone and then spend another $100 a month just for the plan to keep it going, and yet whine about a price increase on a game that isn't any form of necessity. You just have to save a little longer, that's all. I'm just going to have to put my games up on birthday/Christmas lists now. Oh, and I bought Portal online the other day for $40...so that's not all bad, right?
Yeah, but that's Australian money nobody cares about.
Our dollar is worth the same as yours
Cartridges of that size costed more to produce. That had a small bearing on the cost of N64 games back then.

They want money. You know, because they're a business.
inflation mostly put it into any moral system you want but in the end companies want to make more money each quarter and not less so they'll raise the prices as the currency they deal in goes down if you don't like it just don't buy their games but don't pretend companies care about much more than that, it's a simple fact of life

They're a business. Yeah. That's kind of it.
